Speaking at the Federalist Society, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch expressed his irritation that some liberals calling themselves progressives.

Hatch…took time to mock liberals for using the term “progressive,” telling a laughing crowd, “I get a big kick out of them using the word ‘progressive. My gosh, they’re just straight old dumbass liberals anyway.”

So republicans must be the opposite of progressive, which is regressive. The dictionary definition of regressive is “Opposing progress.” Yep, everything makes sense now.

    • mea_mark November 15th, 2014 at 4:02 pm

That is one of the reasons I prefer the term progressive over liberal. If you are opposite progressive you are regressive and that does explain them so much better.

      Progress is a relative term.

      • Larry Schmitt November 15th, 2014 at 5:18 pm

But it’s better than the hole the republicans want to bury the country in.

        • Allan Kim Harrison November 15th, 2014 at 5:53 pm

Liberal democrat progress can also be a hole.

I’m here to participate in the free exchange of ideas. You’re engaged in a group butt hurt conversation about being called a “dumb ass” then call someone else an asshole…..Interesting.

I’m here to participate in the free exchange of ideas

            ________

            Oh, please.

            No more than anyone else.

          • Allan Kim Harrison November 17th, 2014 at 9:30 am

            He asked.

          • OldLefty November 17th, 2014 at 9:48 am

Sorry, but I’ve completely lost the train of this exchange.

          • tracey marie November 17th, 2014 at 9:32 am

            deflection, now answer the question

          • Allan Kim Harrison November 17th, 2014 at 9:39 am

Uh, what’s your obsession with teabagging? You use that term in almost every post you make now you’re talking about sado/ masochism. I see a pattern here.

          • Candide Thirtythree November 17th, 2014 at 8:41 am

This is NOT a free exchange, someone had to pay to put this site on the internet and you are here by their good graces, so you better be thankful that liberals allow you spew your filth on the site they PAY to run.

Conservatives just erase all the comments left by anyone who is not a GOP sycophant because conservatives do not believe in exchanging ideas, they are totalitarian to the bone.

So when you say you are here to participate, that is a LIE, No, you are here to troll and flame threads and dumb down the conversation like all conservatives.

Orrin Hatch fighting to stay relevant before he gets thrown overboard by the intelligentsia of the right, all oxymorons included.

    • Larry Schmitt November 15th, 2014 at 3:35 pm

I was getting ready to add to your comment, till I read the last phrase. I guess I will anyway. It would be a small panel conducting the hearing.

      • tiredoftea November 15th, 2014 at 3:37 pm

Yup, an empty sock puppet propped up between a gun and bible.

  4. christianh November 15th, 2014 at 6:00 pm

    See, they aren’t the problem… Wait…

  5. Bunya November 15th, 2014 at 6:20 pm

Here we have Orrin Hatch, an inbred, redneck hillbilly mental defective referring to others as “dumbasses”. How ironic.

  6. Maxx44 November 15th, 2014 at 7:31 pm

We dumbass progressive liberals believe in evolution, science, global warming/climate change, healthcare for all, gun control, a woman’s right to choose, equal rights for all, that Obama is an American, energy independence, the list goes on. So, Hatch, I’m OK with a dumbass calling me a dumbass.

    • m2old4bs November 15th, 2014 at 10:44 pm

While agree with the overall tone of your post, I’m not OK with the name calling. I’m downright f****ing tired of these fundamental conservative bullies demeaning and degrading another’s view of the world. They truly have no manners. But then again, it is quite obvious that he, and those like him, is/are talking about themselves when they dismiss those who ideologically oppose them with put downs and ad hominen attacks.

    • Candide Thirtythree November 15th, 2014 at 11:21 pm

They call us ‘The educated elite’ and say that ‘smart people’ aka liberals/progressives, will never be on their side when they are talking to their base of voters, who they call the stupid party behind their backs, but when they are in a room together with a bunch of other rich old racists, they call us dumb-asses?

Don’t you think think that they should at least TRY to keep their stories straight, since they already know that the whole world calls them a party of liars?

  7. Candide Thirtythree November 15th, 2014 at 11:15 pm

So this Federalist Society is just another dumbass old racist group?

  8. rg9rts November 16th, 2014 at 9:18 am

Instead of being good ole fashioned flag waving merkin NAZI like me

  9. OldLefty November 17th, 2014 at 8:20 am

The word “progressive” usually means the “Progressive Era”, ushered in by Teddy Roosevelt.

Liberalism goes back to John Locke and Thomas Paine.
