A 10-year-old Delaware boy gained access to his father’s gun and accidentally shot himself in the face, Darby Township police say.

At around 10:30 p.m. the boy and his sister were inside the car waiting for their dad to get off work. The boy found his father’s .357 magnum, pulled the trigger and accidentally shot himself in the face, CBS Philly reports.

[su_center_ad]“(The bullet) entered his right jaw,” Darby Township Police Chief Leonard McDevitt said, “and I believe the exit wound was actually on the back of his head.”

The boy’s sister ran inside to tell her father what happened and to call 9-1-1, police said.

“He was lifeless at the time we arrived,” McDevitt said. “One officer drove, one officer performed CPR in the back of the car. They got him to the nearest trauma center which was Fitzgerald Mercy, and he actually was revived.”

The boy had to be airlifted to a children’s hospital and was listed in extremely critical condition.

He was later upgraded to stable but guarded condition.

It’s not clear whether charges will be filed against the father or not.

don’t any of these parents fk’n read?!!!! how many are we up to this year in child related self-inflicted or accidental shootings by children now?

      Some can’t read….seriously.
Some of them use their sleeve to wipe there noses on because they don’t know any better….some of them live without running water…But since they can walk and talk and somehow haven’t been caught in a crime yet…they can buy any gun anywhere anytime….And then let their kid find it…

…and if they are felons, they can just peruse the want ads, garage sales and swap meets. Someone will sell them a gun–no questions asked.

Thanks to the NRA, we’re not allowed to study gun violence even though it is one of our leading health issues.
      Thanks, NRA…

    …”accidentally shoots himself”….
Sure, and i’ll bet the next thing they will try to say is daddy accidentally left the loaded gun laying around where it could be found too….

It’s time to start putting (sic) after accident and accidentally when reporting on guns going off.

The claim is that more guns mean less crime. Maybe.

I assure you that more guns mean more accidental shootings.

why wouldn’t charges be filed? The easy access to guns in all these incidences, loaded guns is criminal negligence at the least

Well, ya know, that’s just “collateral damage” due to the father’s sacred and inalienable Second-Amendment rights. He can always have another kid, but take away his gun and he won’t be able to overthrow the tyrannical gubmint or defend himself against those young black thugs in their hoodies!

Have to check the the NRA rule book to see if this qualifies as shooter of the month award candidate …you usually shoot someone else…
