It’s really nice when men explain to women how to not get raped, don’t you think? For example, Don Lemon explained to actress Joan Tarshis, who alleges that Bill Cosby raped her in 1969, that all she had to do was bite his penis off.

[su_center_ad]And at that point she would be un-raped, or something.

Via Media Matters:

LEMON: Can I ask you this, because — and please, I don’t mean to be crude, OK?

TARSHIS: Yeah.

LEMON: Because I know some of you — and you said this last night, that he — you lied to him and said “I have an infection, and if you rape me, or if you do — if you have intercourse with me, then you will probably get it and give it to your wife.”

TARSHIS: Right.

LEMON: And you said he made you perform oral sex.

TARSHIS: Right.

LEMON: You — you know, there are ways not to perform oral sex if you didn’t want to do it.

TARSHIS: Oh. Um, I was kind of stoned at the time, and quite honestly, that didn’t even enter my mind. Now I wish it would have.

LEMON: Right. Meaning the using of the teeth, right?

TARSHIS: Yes, that’s what I’m thinking you’re —

LEMON: As a weapon.

TARSHIS: Yeah, I didn’t even think of it.

LEMON: Biting. So, um —

TARSHIS: Ouch.

LEMON: Yes. I had to ask. I mean, it is, yeah.

TARSHIS: Yes. No, it didn’t cross my mind.

Watch:

That’s right ladeeeees, if you don’t bite it off, it’s your own fault for being raped.[su_csky_ad]

I have visions of John Lithgow in drag telling Robin Williams how his was removed surgically, but could not imagine being chomped off in the “World According to Garp”..

So I guess it’s not legitimate rape – since she failed to bite down or fight hard enough, or she accepted his invitation…..fuck you Lemon

Lemmon being stupid is in many way speaking for the masses. Because many people will say that to people who have been raped. My problem is why is she talking to cnn and not the police. And Why when she was raped once did she continue to be in the same airspace as him?

As someone who HAS been raped THREE times I can say with certainty I would not be getting in my rapists limo AFTER he had already raped me. All these women are doing interviews, and all this talk about lawsuits. There is no money that would make it ok. What got me through it was me. And legally with police fighting. these women leave me with many questions.

I am so very sorry for what happened to you, in your anger do not lash out at women who reacted diffrently then you. We are all diffrent when it comes to handling the awful aftermath of rape

      • Tallulah Darling November 19th, 2014 at 3:54 pm

I am not angry, nor am I lashing out. If it came across that way I apologize. I just can’t fathom talking to CNN who really can’t aid these women. Now police and district attorneys should and could prove more helpful in prosecuting. As I said the whole situation leaves me with many questions. As for Lemmon you could call him a tool, but that implies in some way he is useful. I see no evidence for that.

They can’t go to the police now, it’s way past the statute of limitations.
I also don’t know of any lawsuits.

Talking to the media may not help the victims legally, but it does help to finally get that skeleton out of the closet and give them some breathing room.
The best effect would probably be that one, or more, of those interviews may save another girl from a similar incident.

Also, I’m with tracey in that it’s terrible that such a thing happened to you once, much less 3 times.

I am very fortunate that my sense of myself and my survival instinct was and is big enough to carry me through. My attitude was that this can’t be the most interesting thing about me. I just think all of this is very sad and sets a very dangerous precedent.

Some people will believe everything they say, and some people will firmly support Cosby. If they are telling the truth then something has to be done. If they are lying then it is equally to me as devastating for him and his family.

Either way you have to do something, we can’t simply go around making allegations without some action in my opinion.

The most interesting thing(s) about you is your wit, intelligence and strength

        • tracey marie November 19th, 2014 at 4:41 pm

that was great, the anger women feel and the anger you must feel is belittled and dismissed by men.

you know, i thought you were just joking, so i googled it and sure nuf. interesting. oh well, maybe that’s why he felt comfortable saying it. (bad joke, sorry)

  7. M D Reese November 19th, 2014 at 2:15 pm

Yeah–’cause rapists who get their penis bit will just let go of your hair, pull up their pants, say “so sorry to bother you” and leave…Works even better when they have a knife or a gun.
If men had to walk around wondering if this was the day they’d be the one-in-six who gets raped in the US, perhaps they wouldn’t be so cavalier.

  8. tracey marie November 19th, 2014 at 2:38 pm

wow, not the blame has reached new levels. A frightened women must now be violent or rape does not count.

IF this idiot had a brain he’d be dangerous.

  11. Kick Frenzy November 19th, 2014 at 4:00 pm

I really don’t think this was blaming her for not doing that.
It seems closer to him thinking how that would work to her advantage and decided he just had to ask her about it.
He probably didn’t have any angle in mind besides snickering like a schoolboy over the idea of someone biting off a penis.

It’s not like it isn’t the most common thought of method of dealing with unwanted oral sex.

May not have been proper for TV and possibly was more for the ratings of CNN, but he doesn’t sound like he’s blaming her.
    At least not to me.

    • whatthe46 November 20th, 2014 at 12:59 am

i don’t think he was blaming her either, but its just stupid to say you know.

      • Kick Frenzy November 20th, 2014 at 1:20 am

It was stupid to say, specifically on air.

I also understand that a lot of people, mostly guys I imagine, would think that the biting scenario is a valid and good idea.
It wouldn’t occur to many of them that doing so could result in a seriously violent reaction, at least not right away… not in time to stop some from saying “You could have bit it off”.

        Stupid, yes.
        Offensive, not really.

  12. badphairy November 19th, 2014 at 6:08 pm

This guy deserves a very pink slip, for being a complete fucktard on-air.

    • whatthe46 November 20th, 2014 at 12:58 am

now he’s apologizing for his remarks. what never amazes me is that they always say dumb sh’t on air as if they are talking in private, that it must be ok because look who i am. then when someone calls them out, its oh, sorry. (but not really)
