[su_right_ad]As if the allegations bombarding comedy legend Bill Cosby hadn’t murdered your childhood enough, there’s a story rocketing around the social-media-assisted internet alleging that actress Raven-Symoné has filed charges against her former TV dad. Already picked up by the International Business Times and many smaller websites, and retweeted (then deleted) by Roseanne Barr, the story originates from a website called HipHopHangover.com, and mixed fabricated quotes and content with real news:

Another rape allegation has surfaced against famed comedian and actor, Bill Cosby. This time it is from a familiar face which speculates that there may be some truth to Cosby’s sketchy past.

Actress and singer Raven-Symone, who rose to fame with Cosby in the hit television sitcom “The Cosby Show”, revealed to the TMZ offices that she too had been raped and drugged years ago following the shows last episode.

There are whispers that Cosby wouldn’t allow Raven-Symone in the production of the last season of his show, but abruptly changed his mind. It was never revealed what changed his original intentions.

Her lawyer gave an announcement to the press, here is an excerpt:

“…we among so many others are tired of the media worshipping and praising a man that has a past so terrible that it is unbelievable. My client (Raven-Symone) is also ready to tell her side of the story. A side that was kept quiet because of threats from being blackballed. There was no monetary compensation that made my client keep quiet, but more so the respect for Mr. Cosby. Well that respect has come to an end. And what we thought was a mistake or anomaly has surfaced to become a lifestyle. We will be pursuing damages that are not going to be disclosed at this time.”

On Sunday, Cosby’s attorney issued a statement saying the accusers are rehashing “decade-old, discredited” allegations.

The post has caught fire on social media, garnering over a hundred thousand Facebook likes and countless retweets..
Fortunately. in this case, the story is a hoax…READ MORE[su_csky_ad]

Things don’t look good for Cosby at this point, but we have not gotten the whole story. Right now it’s just allegations from a long time ago by people who failed to go to the po-lice.
Making it appear – appear – worse for Cosby is his silence, but who knows what his attorneys have told him?
At this point all we have are allegations, yet we see intelligent people who should know better leaping to conclusions when it is clear it is way too early to draw any.
This lesson should have been learned in the Duke lacrosse team case. I imagine a number of those who have already decided also decided the Duke lacrosse team gang-raped the woman who made the allegations.
I recall a case much further back when there were other sensational accusations about teachers of little kids allegedly doing all sorts of nutty things in the classroom. The same sort of people who always seem to rush to judgement convicted the teachers in the McMartin School case, even though the allegation of one of the teachers inserting a great big butcher knife “down there” seemed a bit far-fetched.

I just don’t know where this impulse to immediately decide guilt came from. The logical thing is to wait for all the facts are in and to follow our system and American principles of justice rather than participate in a kangaroo court of public opinion.

Well written. And that ‘impulse to immediately decide’ has gotten worse due to net false stories and people just seeing/repeating rather than checking the source or story.
This rush has always puzzled me especially when considering most are ‘critical time dependent’ and its being looked into. This and Ferguson are prime examples… journalists and possible lawsuits will happen here and a grand jury will happen there. I’ll wait, it’ll come out.

I’m not sure if the case is people rushing to judgement as much as it is rushing to caution.

The allegations, from various women, reach back at least 12 years.
So, this isn’t something they just started doing.
In fact, there have been questions as to why it’s getting attention after a comedian went off about it (more than once).
(The answer seems to be as simple as “a video was recorded”.)

I’m glad to hear the Raven-Symone story is a hoax.
One less victim is a world kept alive.

As for the allegations, if you (general “you”) believe Cosby is innocent, then you are, by default, assuming the women are all guilty of lying.
Unfortunately, unless any physical evidence pops up (or admission of guilt), it’s a case that will remain a “he said, they said” case.

The ‘rush’ is meant by no facts set forth by a legal authority, such as a court trial.

“As for the allegations, if you (general “you”) believe Cosby is
innocent, then you are, by default, assuming the women are all guilty of
          lying.”
Very true. When asked in cases like this if I think innocent or guilty, I say I don’t know, all the facts aren’t out yet, I’ll wait.

this and ferguson are two entirely different animals.

Not in the sense of the public’s rush to take sides w/out waiting for all the facts. Only the gj has all the facts presented in an orderly way.
