A 3-year-old Washington boy is in serious condition after being shot in the mouth while he and a 4-year-old neighbor were playing with a gun, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office says.

[su_center_ad]The boy’s father alerted police with a 911 call late Friday night after he heard a loud noise from the bedroom of their home in Lake Stevens, Lt. Susy Johnson said.

The father told authorities he found the door locked, forced it open and discovered the boy with an injury to his mouth, which he initially believed was caused by the door hitting the toddler, according to WCCI.

The boy was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after doctors at a local hospital determined the child had been shot.

According to police, the 4-year-old may have accidentally shot the 3-year-old, but they are still investigating the incident.

Authorities say they do not know who owns the gun or where the children got it.

Both families are cooperating with investigators, Johnson said.

Normally I would comment but I find this happens so often that I have absolutely nothing new to offer.

I am with you Carla, it is an almost every day occurrence now, I am just numb. It is like my brain won’t accept what I am seeing any more.

There seems to be so many guns in the United States that millions of them are just lying around in random places, just waiting for a toddler to pick them up.
