Data: White Cops Kill Black Men 96 Times A Year
On average, a black male suspect is killed by a white cop twice a week.

Those are the findings of a USA Today analysis of seven years of FBI data, which claims around a quarter of the 400 annual deaths reported to federal authorities by local police departments were white-on-black shootings. What’s more, the analysis indicates that 18% of the black suspects were under the age of 21 when killed by the police, as opposed to just 8.7% of white suspects.
Throughout much if not all of America, black people are disproportionately more likely to be killed by the police.
The background: Statistics like these may help explain why Pew polls have demonstrated continued low confidence among non-whites in the police and justice systems. Police in general, and white cops in particular, have a pattern of disproportionately directing force against black people. All too often, cases of abuse and excessive force are simply swept under the rug.[su_csky_ad]

No one is saying those murders are “justified”.
So how about we start with addressing the problem where “law abiding” people think that shooting a black man is perfectly ok.

The support being expressed for Darren Wilson is not an assumption, it is a well documented fact.
I am not assuming anything. I am pointing out that comparing shootings which no one justifies to shootings that many people claim are entirely appropriate is a false equivalence and ignores the relevant problem.

You are wrong. If you measure those 96 by the amount of violent crimes committed by blacks against the 304 committed by all other races, blacks are actually killed by police less than all other races combined.
Therefore if all races would reduce the number of violent crimes they commit, blacks would get to zero before all other races combined.
How about them apples?

Ok. Well, I’d like to know who are the other 304 people killed by police then. Because 96 out of 400 is not too far away from the black population percentages as a whole. And considering that blacks commit way more violent crime proportionately (this is a fact), I’d say the stats above are pretty good. How about that?

The numerous stats that I cite in my many comments to this article are pulled from that very table. Maybe you just cannot do simple addition and division. Add the crime stats for blacks and divide the 96 by that number. Then add the total crime stats and subtract the number of black crime stats then divide the 304 by that number. The percentages are both very very small, but they are less for blacks than all other.

Via tiredofTea’s link of 45 officer-involved shootings in Oakland between 2004 and 2008, 37 of those shot were black. None were white. One-third of the shootings resulted in fatalities. Although weapons were not found in 40% of cases, the NAACP found, no officers were charged. Don’t tea on me!

I agree with you on that. It doesn’t dispute my argument above, but I do agree. I do not own any guns myself, and would 100% support a ban on handguns.

Statistically speaking, Blacks are on average 12-13% of the total US population. But reportedly commit a higher percentage of the total crimes. Hispanics are considered to be white until recently with the new classifications. So when a report comes out and says roughly 25% of all police shootings are black men. It is not that hard to figure out why. When you look at all the numbers as a whole.

Those numbers do not provide any insight into whether black suspects are more likely to be subjected to deadly force than white suspects.
Randy Weaver and David Koresh were both criminals. Both were involved in the murder of law enforcement officers. They are hailed as “patriots” and “martyrs”.

Divide the 96 by the number of violent crimes committed by blacks and then divide the 304 committed by all other races. The very small percentages that you get will be lower for those blacks killed than the other races.

I was not trying to make a correlation as to equal or unequal force. But the numbers dont lie. If a higher percentage of the overall crime is being committed, then you have to think that there will be a higher percentage shot.

That study measures the deaths against total population numbers which is of no use since blacks commit over 50% of violent crimes in America (fact: look at FBI data below) yet the population is a mere 12%.

The flaws in this study are easy to point out. For one, the study found that the participants felt more threatened by black people. That’s racist. Two, if they were in a real life situation where they felt more threatened, then the results would probably be different. Three, they might have guessed what the study was about, even though the study did not specifically tell them, which would ruin the point of the study.
