An unidentified man, described as in his 50s with likely anti-government motivations which were possibly fueled by immigration, took to the streets of Austin, Texas while openly carrying his weapon.

Police say the man had targeted “multiple downtown buildings” in the gunfire before dawn, with about 100 shots ringing out into the dark streets.

[su_center_ad]Jesse Van Wallene, 29, told NBC News that he found himself around 15 feet away from the shooter when he stopped at a red light and spotted him with a “large gun in his hand.”

“He was in full gear so he didn’t seem like a civilian, but there was no writing on any of the equipment,” the restaurant server said.

“It seemed like he was wearing a bullet-proof vest,” he added.

As Governor Elect Abbott and other lawmakers are working to expand the open carry of guns in the state it remains unclear how private citizens and law enforcement officers are supposed to be able to tell the difference between the “good guys with guns” and the “bad guys with guns”.

Somehow, we’re supposed to know that these anti-government types are not the same as the other anti-government types.

So far, the “more guns” rhetoric hasn’t panned out too well.

In Texas, for example, there is no requirement to adhere to a background check or any weapons training to carry these loaded rifles in public. There is also no age limit.

Some groups have targeted Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America over their actions in seeking Kroger to change its policies in regards open carry in its stores.

The man in the image below, Kory Watkins, was seen carrying a loaded AK47 inside a Kroger store in Mansfield, Texas.

As for the Austin shooter, Police and FBI agents are still trying to determine a motive. Police Chief Art Acevedo said the shooter could be “anti-government” or have a political agenda based on his apparent targets: government buildings and police.

“The national debate today about immigration, that certainly comes to mind,”

Acevedo said. “Political discourse becomes very heated, sometimes very angry. The rhetoric is not healthy.”

I agree. It’s time for Kroger to wake up.

Personally, I’m sick of the self-serving extremists who believe the Second Amendment was created to scare the shit out of the public.  We deserve to feel safe.

Big thanks to my pal out there whose anonymity will be respected here.

Open Carry gun nuts are suicidal. It’s a good thing gun friendly stores like Kroger’s were closed or this domestic terrorist wishes of becoming another mass-murderer would be delivered.

Open Carry Texas Kory Watkins shops for diapers carrying a loaded AK47 inside a Kroger store in Mansfield, Texas. Paranoid Gun nuts soil lots of diapers.

Like the suicidal gun nut, you too seem likely an unbalanced Open Carry ‘avocado as the Austin PD’s preliminary investigation proves! Instead of proving to everyone what teeny weenies you paranoids have, maybe modern technology can help! Like Paul Ryan you too can drive the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile to overcompensate for your shortcomings!

I haven’t seen anything on the official report that even hints at his knowing any open carry activists. Why use open carry activist photos and not photos of the guy that shot the building?

      • mea_mark November 30th, 2014 at 6:23 pm

At the time of the story there weren’t any. Do you ever look at dates or notice how old some of the earliest comments are, or is living in an oblivious state something you desire? One of the points of the story was that you can’t tell an Open Carry ammosexual from a bad person with a gun. They look the same. It is really an incredibly simple concept to grasp. I really don’t understand why the gunnuts and ammosexuals don’t get it, a person with a gun is a person with a gun. It is not known what their intentions are and the more of them out there the more dangerous it is, because … wait for it … guns are instruments of death.

His young nephew picked it up, was playing with it and the child shot and killed his own grandfather. There are more, I am sure, not all having to do with violence, I imagine a fair share of them having to do with carelessness and stupidity.” — Margie Bateman Osgood http://disq.us/8l5uu2 Open carry gun nuts have shot and killed many e.g. Guns and Ammo Editor, etc.

    • tracey marie November 28th, 2014 at 3:58 pm

      • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:01 pm

        Don’t play dumb.

        “with LIKELY anti-government motivations”
“which were POSSIBLY fueled by immigration”

Might as well have a story about a robbery and claim the the suspect “MIGHT HAVE been black.”

Obviously prejudicial. But, feel free to pretend it’s not. You’ll look very intelligent doing so

        • tracey marie November 28th, 2014 at 4:03 pm

When will you be pointing out the police chief is the prejudiced one then….

          • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:09 pm

I’ll point it out right now, if that’s the case. Should’ve used quotes.

          • GDleftyPart2 November 28th, 2014 at 4:12 pm

Yep and you could have attributed those quotes too.

          • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:13 pm

I quoted the article, which didn’t use quotes. Why would I assume the police chief said this?

          • GDleftyPart2 November 28th, 2014 at 4:15 pm

It’s in the article maybe…..assuming or reading?

As for the Austin shooter, Police and FBI agents are still trying to determine a motive. Police Chief Art Acevedo said the shooter could be “anti-government” or have a political agenda based on his apparent targets: government buildings and police.

          • derek November 29th, 2014 at 3:39 am

you are a bunch of hacks….”likely” ..”possibly” ..and not even knowing who that man is and YOU make an…uuhhhh…”anti government open carry activist” out of him in the absence of any facts that support these claims?
That is a fucking joke man. Just admit this is just a contrived article.

          • GDleftyPart2 November 29th, 2014 at 10:04 am

Gee Derek, allow the police chief the ability to speculate, much like you are doing now….
Texas, lots of ammo, shooting at gubmint buildings…..should we ignore the police on the ground involved in the investigation?
Like I told the other fondler, I didn’t write this article and the actual person, obvious commie with her links and stuff, is actually responding directly to you knobs. Bless her heart.
Shouldn’t you be outside a Shoneys somewhere menacing people with your matte black manhood?

            Reading is hard. FTA:

Also, the story is linked. You’re welcome!

          • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:11 pm

And “open carry”? LOL. Give me a break. Who said this guy is an open carry advocate? Because he was openly carrying while trying to murder? lol. If he was wearing Levi’s, will an article be written disparaging Levi wearers?

          • GDleftyPart2 November 28th, 2014 at 4:14 pm

Nobody said he was with OCT but I have no issues showing photos of the gun fondlers known as OCT with a story like this since they are vocal about their toys and have no problem terrorizing average citizens.
Maybe if OCT would have been the good guys with the guns a police officer wouldn’t be on administrative leave this morning…

          • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:17 pm

It’s obvious you have no problem showing them. When you write an article about a robbery, do you just post stock pictures of black people, too? If there is no connection, what’s the point of attaching it to a story about this guy? Go ahead and pretend it isn’t prejudicial….but it is.

          • GDleftyPart2 November 28th, 2014 at 4:20 pm

Go ahead and pretend I wrote this article, hell the author is actually responding to you dingus.
You keep railing about the police chief speculating this gun fondler shooting at gubmint buildings WASN’T a gun fondler with an open hate of the gubmint…..

          • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:43 pm

So, the police chief didn’t say a thing about this guy being an open carry advocate, yet more than half the article goes on about that. Right, it’s not prejudicial…got it.

          • Anomaly 100 November 28th, 2014 at 4:47 pm

Oh my god, you’re so stupid it hurts.

          • TD1 November 28th, 2014 at 4:52 pm

Because he didn’t keep the gun in a bag as he shot, he is an open carry advocate? Sounds legit. Good on you. Not prejudicial. My bad.

          • Anomaly 100 November 28th, 2014 at 5:25 pm

He was carrying his gun openly. Did I type that slowly enough for you?

It’s true, I am prejudiced against your ilk. I don’t like anyone that enters family friendly restaurants with rifles strapped to their backs while parents are trying to enjoy time with their children.

          • GDleftyPart2 November 28th, 2014 at 5:37 pm

          • GDleftyPart2 November 28th, 2014 at 5:36 pm

I’ll bow to your superior intellect then…he was just an average Texan out exercising his second amendments rights bestowed upon him by gawd or mortal men and decided to shoot up the joint. We should all be praising him for taking that officers bullets like a man.
Are you afraid that the movement threatening moms in a restaurant may get some bad press?
Why are open carry folks and I’ll just assume you are one based on your problem with the article, such bad*sses with their prosthetic peckers usually such GD whiners?

          • Rob Doyon November 30th, 2014 at 5:50 pm

You don’t think that police would think differently, be trained differently if we didn’t condone this type of behavior towards guns? The racism surrounded around guns and the 2A rednecks, hillbilly assholes that think only of themselves and their real need for bloodlust and as I have witnessed a lot since on Twitter that the only way to really make change is through a bullet. They have laws in many states including FL. and GA. that are virtually state sanctioned licenses to murder provided you’re the right color and possibly doing a crime against the right color. We need to change this. It’s over CJ Grisham.

Upon encountering a law enforcement officer and told that he is going to search you without cause, you must present your drivers license and Search and Seizure Protection License to avoid the invasive action. A warrant would only be required for those in possession of the SSPL.

To enjoy protection from double jeopardy after being found innocent of a crime, you must first get a $200 Double Jeopardy License, otherwise the state can prosecute you as many times as it takes to get a guilty verdict. In addition to a DJL, you must also secure a SIL (Self Incrimination License) or you will be required to testify against yourself. A $250 DPL (Due Process License) will ensure that you are not deprived of life, liberty or property. This license was formerly known as the PAL (Patriot Act License). A Private Property License is the only way to ensure that the State of Texas doesn’t take your property and just laugh when you ask for compensation.

The $200 Criminal Prosecution License (CPL) recognizes that you are entitled to an attorney, that the state doesn’t hold a secret trial against you five years after you’re falsely arrested (assuming you don’t have a SSPL). Witnesses against you are protected from cross examination unless you have a current CPL.

After being trained on the duties of jurors and proving that you haven’t ignored a jury summons in the past five years, you can go to your nearest courthouse to obtain a $200 Jury Trial License that recognizes your right to a trial by jury.

Are you sensitive to pain and suffering? Have no fear. Texas would offer a $200 CUPL (Cruel and Unusual Punishment License) once you successfully pass SERE training. Texans refusing to secure a CUPL will find themselves working in the oil fields without pay wearing only a pink slenderman suit.

In order to protect those rights that are not enumerated in the constitution, but that you retain as a living being, a $1500 RPL (Rights Protection License).

But, have no fear. In order for Texas to enjoy state sovereignty, they are also required to obtain a license. For a small fee of just $2,500,000, Texas can obtain a SSL (State Sovereignty License) to protect from federal encroachment. It must first complete training that hasn’t been identified yet and meet certain criteria they can’t discern.

The Not A Slave License protects you from being involuntarily subjected to slavery. For an additional $650 (on top of the $200 license), you can even own slaves – those that don’t have an NSL.

In order to vote, you must present your driver license and $200 VCL (voters certification license). If you’re poor or elderly, you would only have to pay $150 after proving that you graduated from civics training and understand how our system of government works.

Any amending that 2nd Amendment will be dealt with by force

People are getting tired. Your inability to realize that white America constitutes not all America. And not all white Americans are jumping on your sad red wagon of America. The funny part is because they have the internet, TV, the cops, ovens, heaters, cell phones, that things will always be OK. I am a FEMA and DoD contractor and I hold a Bachelor’s in Emergency Management / Counter-Terrorism. All it would take for the entire country to collapse into chaos and anarchy is to lose OUR power grid for a measly 30 days.
Actually our Military has just testified on Capital Hill that the Chinese have the capability to destroy our power grid.

These liberal folks don’t have a clue as to what will happen in the aftermath of a major catastrophe. They will be among the first to perish as they will rely on the Police and the government to protect them. Look what happened in the aftermath of Katrina/Rita, over a third of NOLA PD abandoned their posts and fled the city.
I have been on the ground in these and other catastrophic events and it was and will be hell on earth.
I guarantee not a single liberal here on this thread has ever been through a major event. If they had, they would not be mocking us right now

You state you don’t need a gun in case. What would you do in the aftermath of a nationwide catastrophe? With looters roaming the streets freely and unabated, how will you protect yourself?
            The police cannot protect you……
I am a federal contractor through FEMA and the NFIP. I am also a federal security contractor for the Department of Defense
I was on the ground in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. It was literally hell on earth and groups of criminals ruled the cities preying upon those without the means to protect themselves. Sad part is over 1/3 rd of the New Orleans Police Department abandoned their posts and fled the city.
As a FEMA contractor the talking points are citizens having the means to be on their own for up to 72 hours.
However I can tell you first hand that being on your own for up to 240 hours is more real;istic

You can’t as it is none of your business. Even the cops are not allowed to verify whether someone is legally able to have possession of ANY firearm. They CANNOT detain you just because they spotted your firearm(s) and thus have no right to ask for identification.
        Good guy vs bad guy:
The good guy/gal walks into a store with a firearm in a holster. The bad guy/gal walks into a store with firearm in hand.
Another method is IF you are still alive, you can be fairly certain he/she is NOT a bad guy

Too many people with guns that don’t know how to use them properly and have no idea as to what to actually do in a crises situation.

  21. Difster November 30th, 2014 at 10:53 am

What seems obvious to me is that the guy went downtown when there wasn’t really anyone around and shot at government building when they were closed in order to get himself shot to death by cops. He had “Let me die” written on his chest. He was suicidal. He shot the government building because they were likely to be unoccupied and he was trying to get a reaction from police (which he got).

There’s no indication at all that he’s an Open Carry advocate or anti-government.

Look, you people bash us “gun nuts” (actually, we like the term ammosexual, it’s funny) but if we were the violent psychopaths you imagine us to be, you’d be dead already. The number of guns continues to grow while the homicide rate continues to drop. Oh,and pro-tip, more people are murdered with hammers than rifles. Another hint, more than 50% of murders are committed by blacks who are less than 15% of the population.

You idiots aren’t anti-gun, you just want government to have all the guns. You’re idiots because you want government to have a monopoly on force. And that has worked SO well in other countries.

    • Carla Akins November 30th, 2014 at 11:57 am

What’s racist about pointing out facts? I was merely pointing out that it’s not white guys with rifles that people generally need to be afraid of because in the overall crime picture, it’s a statistically low number.

Wow. Um, I’m not even sure how to respond to an article like this. I mean, it’s 25% facts and about 75% media spin and conjecture. Not professional reporting if you ask me (but then again, who does these days?).

Typically your average open carry Texan is going to have his rifle across his back, under 1 arm, or has a black powdered pistol safely in a holster. Texans that choose to do so are not violent and only do so only because it is currently expensive and illegal to conceal or open carry a handgun in Texas. So I guess the “dumb answer” to the dumb question above is this : the difference between an open carry and a crazed shooter is that the open carrier is most likely not wearing body and the shooter is, derp, shooting people.

Secondly, the shooter is from Kansas, does not have any Texas ID, has a permanent residence in Kansas, and has been known to temporarily stay in Austin from time to time.

But then again, this is http://www.alan.com, self described as “Liberal Land”, all of who’s other articles seem to go on about gun control and how Republicans are secretly trying to execute us all.

Lol. This is a CONSPIRACY THEORY site. Not even as credible as http://www.infowars.com

    • arc99 November 30th, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Hilarious that you come to this site, making protestations about claims which appear nowhere in the article and accuse this site of being a conspiracy theory site.

Did the article state the shooter was a resident of Texas? Did the article state the shooter carried Texas ID?

On the credibility scale, you have no grounds to criticize anyone.

      • Martin Cohn November 30th, 2014 at 2:03 pm

No just plastered Open Carry Texas pics all over the article. And then implied he was a member.

This sick individual had nothing to do with this or any other pro 2A group, so stop spinning your own truth. Hmm, sounds like a conspiracy site doesn’t it.

      • johnnnie November 30th, 2014 at 2:11 pm

This is a failed attempt to demonize open carry groups in Texas.

        • Kaakstorm November 30th, 2014 at 4:01 pm

and perhaps a deliberate attack on SB 195.

A drunk driver smashed into the tactical garden at 2:30 am this morning damaging the tactical rosemary and my truck. Was it the cars fault or should I blame Toyota? If he was a member of AAA, is it ok to implicate them too? Thanks.

  34. John from Texas November 30th, 2014 at 4:39 pm

I understand none of the buildings suffered fatal injuries and that all will be functional by the start of the work week. At least the shooter made his mark on this great earth before transitioning to the next stop!

  35. Bite ME from Texas November 30th, 2014 at 7:18 pm

Your article is 25% crap with a heavy load of Texas bullshit. The guy was a THUG. No different than the THUGS that drive to a town to burn it down for a pair of shoes. That said SHAME ON YOU for using pictures completely unrelated to the story at hand. ASS

Open carry gun nuts are killer wannabes and criminals: Discovery cancels ‘Sons of Guns’ after Will Hayden’s rape arrest! http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/27/showbiz/sons-of-guns-will-hayden-arrest/ Next-up: Duck & child molester Phil Robertson arrested for germ warfare ‘I don’t bathe or shave because it brings me good luck’-Phil Robertson. OMFG!

      • SirVesa December 1st, 2014 at 7:09 pm

wow…you conflate someone marching for a cause with child rape? And you’re a moderator? If you had any, you just lost all credibility.

        • Obewon December 1st, 2014 at 8:01 pm

Open Carry gun nuts selfishly terrorize families and children, commit more crimes as do child molesters e.g. ‘Sons of Guns’ after Will Hayden’s rape arrest. Remember the guns & ammo editor who murdered his friend in a jealous rage of unfounded paranoia?

Gun owners shoot 22 to 43 times more friends and family than any intruder. Furthermore Right-to-carry gun laws linked to increase in violent crime: “The strongest evidence was for aggravated assault, with data suggesting that right-to-carry (RTC) laws increase this crime by an estimated +8% – and this may actually be understated, according to the researchers.

The murder rate increased in the states with existing right-to-carry laws for the period 1999-2010 when the “confounding influence” of the crack cocaine epidemic is controlled for. The study found that homicides increased in 8 states that adopted right-to-carry laws during 1999-2010.”-Stanford research November 14, 2014. Stanford law Professor John J. Donohue III, Stanford law student Abhay Aneja and doctoral student Alexandria Zhang from Johns Hopkins University were the co-authors of the study. http://news.stanford.edu/news/2014/november/donohue-guns-study-111414.html You people are well proven by many studies to create more homicides and crimes than any gun nut has ever prevented.

          • SirVesa December 1st, 2014 at 8:14 pm

You are full of so much horsesh!t, that its actually painful to read. You read (and believe) a conjecture/propaganda piece from a Liberal college because it suits your agenda. Your facts are hilariously wrong, but don’t take my word for it.

            https://www.dps.texas.gov/RSD/CHL/Reports/ConvictionRatesReport2012.pdf

            http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/ucr

I’m sure you’ll come back with some nonsense to prove your case, but as always you will have NO FACTS. Just misdirection and lies. You see, you folks can’t win a debate with facts because the facts are the opposite what you claim. You hoplaphobia is amusing at best, but it doesn’t change the fact that Texas WILL become the 47th state to have open carry and all you wussies that get terrified of those big scary guns will just have to get used to it. You offend me with the exercise of your 1st Amendment rights and I just have to deal, so fair is fair.

          • Obewon December 1st, 2014 at 8:44 pm

My unbiased FBI, CDC & Peer-reviewed Stanford facts are linked proving my points.

Here’s another study from Texas A & M University debunking you, and further proving my facts as posted with regard to ‘Stand Your Ground’-homicidal states as well:

“Our study finds that, that homicides go up by +7 to +9% in states that pass (‘Stand Your Ground’) laws, relative to states that didn’t pass the laws over the same time period,” he says.”These laws lower the cost of using lethal force,” says Mark Hoekstra, an economist with Texas A&M University who examined stand your ground laws. “Our study finds that, as a result, you get more of it.” http://www.npr.org/2013/01/02/167984117/-stand-your-ground-linked-to-increase-in-homicide “You are full of so much horsesh!t”-SirVesa Debunked

          • SirVesa December 1st, 2014 at 8:56 pm

But the problem with your facts is that they’re not factual. Look at the conviction rates I sent you from Texas DPS: if what you said was true, then all of those crimes, including violent crimes would be higher for CHL holders but they’re not. In every single category, the number of CHL offenders is a small fraction of what non-CHL offenders are convicted and, in some cases, the lack of CHL carrying offenders is totally absent. I understand that you dislike guns and I feel sorry for you because you will lose your crusade, but I’m sure that being a professional idealogue you can find some other perceived injustice to get behind. The amusing part of this whole conversation is that I think, in your mind, you really believe you have facts there when the FBI UCR and the Texas DPS conviction reports PROVE to you that you’re blindly following your own deception. Its kinda sad, really.

          • Obewon December 1st, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Notice how your empty links illustrate you’re inability to refute my posted CDC, FBI & Texas A & M facts debunking you.

          • SirVesa December 1st, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Because your “facts” are wrong. What the hell does the CDC have to do with gun crime? The DPS crime statistics and the FBI UCR are the ONLY records to be concerned with. How did these other venerable institutions get their information? I’ll tell you where…they made them up. But i’m done explaining to you: if you don’t even know what an SSL browsing warning is, you can’t be helped. If you go into the DPS site and browse to the document, you don’t get the message. I tried to make it easy for you linking directly to the document since you’re such a lazy researcher, but it seems that gun law statistics aren’t the only thing you’re ignorant about. Bad troll, bad.

“Gun owners shoot 22 to 43 times more friends and family than any intruder.”-FBI/CDC.” and linked facts Vs “What the hell does the (FBI) CDC have to do with gun crime?”

          • Obewon December 1st, 2014 at 9:14 pm

Your links don’t work and “facts is that they’re not factual.”-Lmao at delusional disorder paranoid gun nuts debunked with unbiased facts.

Furthermore you’re site “www.dps.texas.gov” appears to have been hijacked by MALWARE! “Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from http://www.dps.texas.gov (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

This server could not prove that it is http://www.dps.texas.gov; its security certificate is from http://www.txdps.state.tx.us. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection.”

          • SirVesa December 1st, 2014 at 8:58 pm

And you’re about as unbiased as your sources…which is to say “not at all”. NPR, Stanford…really?

          • Obewon December 1st, 2014 at 9:02 pm

“Texas A&M University who examined stand your ground laws”-debunk you further as a person lacking comprehension, or working links that Debunk you e.g.

“Gun owners shoot 22 to 43 times more friends and family than any intruder.”-FBI/CDC.

  36. ABeagleKnots December 1st, 2014 at 1:35 pm

Duh! This one guy proves that Texans aren’t capable of the same open carry rights that people in 45 other states prove are safe every day. Texans are dumber, and less responsible that all other Americans who have open carry rights, and this one single idiot proves it. After all, if one person does something stupid, then all others in his state should be punished, right? it’s common sense safety!

    😉
