FRESNO, CA: Of all the many problems with America’s gun obsession, one of the biggest – although least reported – has to be the sheer number of guns stolen each and every year. Currently, there are something like 300 million guns in the United States; the DOJ estimates that every year, a staggering 400,000 of those…

guns, guns, everywhere but not a one to use.

  2. mea_mark December 6th, 2014 at 8:25 pm

If I owned a gun shop and was there selling guns, I would always be armed, with a taser.

    • edmeyer_able December 6th, 2014 at 8:28 pm

If I was inclined to go into retail it would be sex toys and whoopie cushions, whats the worst they could do to ya….lol

      • mea_mark December 6th, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Last time I was in retail it was booze. What’s the worst that can happen …

      • Larry Schmitt December 6th, 2014 at 8:38 pm

Aren’t they just about the same thing?

        • edmeyer_able December 6th, 2014 at 8:59 pm

Did you mean tasers & guns or sex toys & whoopie cushions?

          • Larry Schmitt December 6th, 2014 at 9:02 pm

            The sex toys.

I always wanted my own bookstore after retirement, and now they’re all digital.

        • mea_mark December 6th, 2014 at 8:55 pm

You can always try coloring books, they’re getting real popular with the republicans. Just look at Cruz.

          • Carla Akins December 6th, 2014 at 9:15 pm

That doesn’t sound like it would have the same feel. Maybe a small bar.

          • edmeyer_able December 6th, 2014 at 9:19 pm

How about a used book store and bar or coffee shop?

            Barnes and Noble part II

          • Candide Thirtythree December 7th, 2014 at 4:05 am

I LOVE used book stores!!!! all the ones around here are gone πŸ™

I love the smell of old books and the thought that my books go back for others to enjoy instead of collecting dust on my book shelves is nice too.

          • Candide Thirtythree December 7th, 2014 at 4:02 am

We are doing an organic apple farm for our retirement, just selling at farmer’s markets. Figure it would be a great way to get out and meet people and there is very little maintenance to be done in an apple orchard.

Plus I can use some of those apple to brew me up some hard cider to enjoy while looking at the mountains from my front porch.

I am so ready to get out of republican infested Louisiana!

          • Carla Akins December 7th, 2014 at 4:52 am

That sounds wonderful and incredibly responsible. You know, Mark makes his own wine….I’m betting he know how to make a hard cider…

          • Candide Thirtythree December 8th, 2014 at 1:52 am

I will probably be back to ask for advice then because I have never even made wine but that is what retirement is for, right? πŸ™‚

There are still a few good ones around, at least here in Europe. One of my favorites is right next door (i.e. across the water) in Stockholm; they have a large stock of English books, both fiction and nonfiction, including a large back-list of older books, and they have staff who actually know about and love books! They’re especially good on history. I live in Finland, but I try to get across to Stockholm several times a year just for this bookstore.

          • Carla Akins December 7th, 2014 at 5:02 am

It sounds lovely, that exactly the kind of thing I had pictured in my head.

    • burqa December 7th, 2014 at 12:09 am

Where’s a trap door when you need one?

  3. tiredoftea December 6th, 2014 at 8:32 pm

    Oopsie!

  4. Guy Lauten December 6th, 2014 at 8:35 pm

Oh where, oh where, oh where was a “good guy with a gun”? Nowhere to be found, apparently.

  5. Larry Schmitt December 6th, 2014 at 8:37 pm

Only takes one bad guy with a gun…oh, never mind.

  6. Denise December 6th, 2014 at 9:19 pm

    Hahahaha!

  7. Foundryman December 6th, 2014 at 9:27 pm

Nice security they have there. After all, it’s not like they sell anything that anyone might want to steal. There is a difference between potato chips and guns…
Perhaps a requirement that gun shops have better security at the door and merchandise locked inside vaults is needed.

    • searambler December 6th, 2014 at 9:39 pm

No way! No new ‘requirements’! Because…..FREEDUMB!!!

  8. StoneyCurtisll December 6th, 2014 at 9:38 pm

      Well, that was random.

      • StoneyCurtisll December 13th, 2014 at 3:55 pm

Sometimes random is better than per-programed.

  9. searambler December 6th, 2014 at 9:46 pm

“Currently, there are something like 300 million guns in the United States; the DOJ estimates that every year, a staggering 400,000 of those are stolen.”

The more guns we have, the more guns we have available to be stolen. It’s simple math. And since the NRA ammosexuals refuse to allow even the mildest and sanest measures designed to prevent shit like this from happening………

  10. dave-dr-gonzo December 6th, 2014 at 9:53 pm

I am thoroughly amused to see a good guy with a frakkin’ arsenal failing to thwart bad guys with a gun in Fresno, home of those freedom-loving freedomites of Free Republic. Because FREEDUM!!!!!1!

That cinches it – MSNBC boss Phil Griffin should cancel “Lockup” and start a new reality series, “America’s Funniest Most Wanted”. Ratings gold, for sure.

    • Dwendt44 December 7th, 2014 at 12:21 am

In some gun shops around here, those that stand along, the sales force wear side arms. Don’t hear about robberies like that here.

    • red-diaper-baby 1942 December 7th, 2014 at 2:30 am

I love the word “freedomites”! Did you make it up or is it floating around on the Internet?
Edit: I checked and it seems to have a specific meaning in Canada, but I like its application to our own homegrown rightwing antigovernment lunatics.

  11. crc3 December 6th, 2014 at 10:44 pm

Kind of kills the NRA theory of “the more guns people have the less crime there will be”…doesn’t it?

  12. WesleyV December 6th, 2014 at 11:01 pm

I like the big goofy guy getting dragged around by his t-shirt. I bet he’s a one of those internet trolls that haunts Moms Against Gun Violence and the Brady Campaign.

  13. burqa December 7th, 2014 at 12:08 am

It’s all about getting the drop

  14. Foundryman December 7th, 2014 at 12:19 am

    Nice…Two robberies in a week….
can someone please explain why this gun dealer doesn’t lose their federal firearms license?

  15. rg9rts December 7th, 2014 at 1:21 am
