A Florida man is listed in critical condition after he was run over by a police cruiser because he tagged a building.

Police said 21-year-old street artist Delbert Rodriguez Gutierrez, who goes by the name “Demz,” was hit while running from officers after he was caught tagging a building, NBC Bay Area reports.

Demz is fighting for his life in a local hospital.

[su_center_ad]”He shouldn’t be in the hospital with a brain injury right now,” Rodriguez’s friend Neo told NBC 6. “He should be out here doing graffiti with me.”

Miami Police say Rodriguez was spotted by officers tagging a privately-owned building on Friday at around 2:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Once Rodriguez saw the flashing lights, he ran.

“He probably shouldn’t have ran, you know, considering that it is Wynwood and it’s an art district and everyone is basically doing graffiti,” Neo said. “The cops might have just given him a chance.”

According to Police, when Detective Michael Cadavid turned the corner in his unmarked car, Rodriguez jumped out from between two vehicles and the detective’s car struck him. Rodriguez is listed in critical condition at a local hospitial with a brain injury.

“Tagging” buildings is usually done with permission from the owners, but it’s not clear if Rodriguez was given the OK.

“In the community you get more respect if you do illegal,” artist Jasmine Deardan said. “You don’t get permission and you just do your throw-up or your tag.”

For those who blame recent victims saying “He was doing something wrong,” then I commend you on your perfect mistake-free lives, which is something I was never able to accomplish. You must be so special.

Police say (?) He jumped in front of their car from between 2 other cars. β€” I don’t buy it. Why would someone jump in front of a car? Sounds like another made up story to cover-up some officers bad actions. If there isn’t proof or a witness to collaborate the story it better be investigated thoroughly.

He must be one of those demonic Hulk Hogan blacks with super-duper powers.

    • Hirightnow December 8th, 2014 at 10:16 am

      ” investigated thoroughly”
      In FLORIDA?!?

      Heh, Haha.
      Hahahaaahaahahaa!
      Bwaaaaahaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa!

    • Aielyn December 8th, 2014 at 11:11 am

I think you mean “corroborate”, not “collaborate”. But I agree, it does sound a bit fishy.

        My bad, thanks.

“Why would someone jump in front of a car?”

Because they didn’t see it coming. During my second year in college, on the first warm day of Spring, I was heading to the florist to buy a rose for my new girlfriend. My head was in the clouds. I needed to cross a 3-lane street. The near lane was empty and the middle lane was stopped, with a line of cars waiting a for a red light. I plumb forgot about the third lane. Thinking there were only two lanes, I darted between two of the stopped cars and promptly became the hood ornament of a Dodge Duster. Fortunately I was running and had both feet in the air at the moment I was hit. My only injuries were brush burns and a bruised tailbone from when the driver jammed the brakes and deposited me on the pavement. The woman driving the car was in tears because she thought she had killed me.

It’s not hard for me to believe that someone who has other things on their mind could inadvertently run or jump in front of a moving vehicle. Been there, done that.

      • mea_mark December 8th, 2014 at 1:54 pm

You obviously weren’t running away from that car either. If you are running away from something, how do you end up jumping in front of it?

        • Robert M. Snyder December 8th, 2014 at 2:02 pm

Use your imagination. Maybe he slipped on a banana peel. Who knows? There are lots of ways it could happen. But if you’re bound and determined to blame the cops, then I guess you’re bound and determined. I hope there’s a dashcam, because I find it very difficult to believe that a cop would intentionally run someone down with a vehicle. It seems far more likely that this was accidental. I have hit deer on three separate occasions. When something jumps right in front of you, there is no time to react. It’s like this: “Deer, Crash, Brake.”

It’s not like someone tagging a building, upon hearing someone whisper “Psst! Five OH!” wouldn’t take off without looking and perhaps jump right into the police rather than away from them.

    Anon100, this wasn’t fair:
“For those who blame recent victims saying β€œHe was doing something
wrong,” then I commend you on your perfect mistake-free lives, which is
something I was never able to accomplish. You must be so special”

This is from his own friend:
“In the community you get more respect if you do illegal,”
That isn’t a mistake, they are doing it on purpose, repeatedly.

Now as for how he ended up in the hospital, let’s wait to see the dash cam & if/any witnesses. He very well could have jumped in front not seeing the car(been done before, even w/buses). If the car swerved to hit him, different case.
But seriously, to insinuate that every time it is the cops(or visa versa for that matter) before all data is in or that any investigation is always suspect is getting out of hand, in my view.

    • crc3 December 8th, 2014 at 11:08 am

What is getting out of hand is grand juries not indicting cops for murder. Any comment from you on that?

      • Spirit of America December 8th, 2014 at 11:13 am

Look around, I’ve commented on all of the recent cases. But that isn’t the topic here, now is it? Any comment on the topic & my post itself?

        • crc3 December 8th, 2014 at 11:35 am

I understand what you said but I added a little more. Anything wrong with that?

          • Spirit of America December 8th, 2014 at 11:42 am

Nope, nothing ‘wrong’ per se, but I had no way of knowing if you understood/agreed/disagreed with the post/topic at all, you simply brought up a different topic w/a question to me, which I said I have already discussed those in the different threads.

    • tracey marie December 8th, 2014 at 2:02 pm

typical of you to defend the killers

      • Spirit of America December 8th, 2014 at 2:15 pm

No, what is typical is for you to either out right lie after reading a post or be wrong because you didn’t read the post, only 1 of those 2 things here is possible, again. Don’t you get tired of making things up just to post?

        1. Show me where there is any ‘killer’ in the article, any.

        2. Show me where I defended any person in my post, let alone a non-existent killer.

        • tracey marie December 8th, 2014 at 2:20 pm

rotflmao…hit that nerve of killer defense didn’t I

          • Spirit of America December 8th, 2014 at 2:23 pm

No child, when people lie, it never hits a nerve, it brings out pity.
Now, answer the 2 questions to back up your post, or it is admitting what I said is true and you’re embarrassed you got called out on it.

          • tracey marie December 8th, 2014 at 2:27 pm

grow up and control that tp temper

          • Spirit of America December 8th, 2014 at 2:32 pm

Grow up and answer the questions, how hard is that?

          • rg9rts December 8th, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Both of you settle down …there is a kid hurt and it looks like the cops have their hands in it . No one should be hurt for tagging.. like YOU NEVER did anything stupid when you were 21… Grow up

          • Spirit of America December 8th, 2014 at 8:09 pm

LOL, what in the world does that have anything to do with her lying? She got caught, ran to insults, and then ran away. Again.

But I’ll answer your question and see if you can grow up?

Who said anything about ‘should get hurt for tagging’?

            No one did.

Who said they never did anything stupid, at any age let alone 21?
            No one did.

I said wait for all the info, that’s all.

            My questions to you are:

Why is waiting for all the info the wrong thing to do today?
Why defend someone that lied about another?

Splitting hairs is despicable over attempted homicide by Vehicular manslaughter, leaving a brain injured graffiti artist in critical condition! Koch bros teabagging really does rot your brain. OMFG!

          • Spirit of America December 9th, 2014 at 3:12 am

LOL, dead or not dead, that is now splitting hairs…LOL!!!
            What a TWIT!!!
Not to mention, we don’t know how it happened yet, you don’t either.
            (what a nitwit)

If it was your teabagged legacy hospitalized in critical with cerebral impairmenet then you may have posted something decent. Nobody here has any empathy for you again absolving a fascist PD in yet another Unprovoked attempted/Murder!

          • Spirit of America December 9th, 2014 at 3:34 am

(LOL, sorry, still getting over that being dead or alive is ‘splitting hairs’, that was funny…)

Anyhow, show me how I absolved anyone. The rest of your post is childish, I’ll let it go.
But, show me where I absolved anyone.
            You can’t.
You’ll come back with more lies and what you think is funny insults, no matter how inaccurate. If you weren’t such a wacko, you may have posted something worth reading.

Lets see if you can do it. Type one line, have it show where I absolved anyone.

          • Obewon December 9th, 2014 at 3:35 am

Do you have any idea about the plethora of well proven FDLE abuse, corruption, stalking, RAPES & Murders committed by on-duty FL PD? Of course you don’t! I consulted on a DOJ system to monitor FDLE via judicial decree because women were being abused, stalked and RAPED! By on-duty FDLE.

Exhibit A: “NBC Bay Area reports.

Demz is fighting for his life in a local hospital.” SOA=DOA.

I knew you couldn’t do it!

Nothing to do with my post, nothing. Besides the lies in your response, why not throw in the price of eggs in china while you’re at it, it’ll be as relevant.

            Have a nice day!

LOL you read it, couldn’t do it, and came back with something stupid… it is your m.o.

          • Obewon December 9th, 2014 at 3:53 am

“Now as for how he ended up in the hospital”-SoA in denial of factbased reality. ‘Maybe he got hit by another car or sump’n?’-SoA.

          • Spirit of America December 9th, 2014 at 4:03 am

You have no sense of honor or decency, you are the very essence of despicable, you just keep lying and lying…

            Here’s what I said:
” He very well could have jumped in front not seeing the car(been done
before, even w/buses). If the car swerved to hit him, different case.”

All the facts aren’t in, but in your childish mind, you pretend it to be and then act on that pretense as if fact.
I’ll bet you 10 to 1 that if your parent ever catches you while you’re posting, you’ll be grounded at least for a month. If they know how to parent that is.

Miami is the cesspool of FL. I know because I live in Ft Lauderdale. Miami also won the coveted reward of being the worst city in America to live in (#1)…

    • Robert M. Snyder December 8th, 2014 at 10:24 pm

I’ve never been to Miami and have no opinion on the type of place it is to live. FWIW, according to the US Census Bureau, Miami-Dade County is 66% Latino, 19% Black, and 15% White.

I love Miami better then Ft. Lauderdale, it has more flavor and is not so milque toast

  4. Foundryman December 8th, 2014 at 11:53 am

Until there is positive change in the way police interact with people and until we see real accountability from them, everything they do should be scrutinized, especially after these recent events of homicide and brutality.

The graffiti artists may be doing this repeatedly, and it may be illegal, but it doesn’t warrant being run over or gunned down or beaten. Heavy handed responses to lightweight non violent crime that results in death or injury is what society is waking up to and being appalled by.
