Sensitivity is not the word for whoever decided it would be a good idea to offer 6 shots for $12 and call it a “Michael Brown special.”

Mug Shots, which is located in St. Joseph, sparked outrage when it started offering the shot special, reports Fox 4 News. A photograph of the sign that advertised the deal went viral and got people talking — and angry — after it appeared on the bar’s Facebook page.

A handful of protesters reportedly showed up outside of Mug Shots – which goes by the slogan “where sarcasm is always free” – on Saturday night, holding up signs and chanting.

The bar’s co-owner, who did not wish to have his name revealed but has since been identified as Rodney Stapleton by KNPN, apologized for the mistake and said it was just a reckless call on his part.

“It’s not meant to cause any harm,” the man told Fox 4. “I should have thought a little bit more about it before I made it a shot special.”[su_csky_ad]

I don’t see racism, here. Just stupidity and insensitivity.

Given the name and “motto” of the place, this guy probably considered having a “Nine-Eleven special” of some sort, for instance. He almost certainly thought it was funny as a pun, rather than actually wanting to express an opinion on the situation. In fact, the guy might have thought, inanely, that it would be some sort of tribute; to give you a sense of how this is possible, consider this:

Here in Australia, a national cricketer died due to an unfortunate accident in which the cricket ball bounced into his face, hit in just the wrong way, and knocked him unconscious. His score at the time was 63 runs. As a result, at his funeral, there was 63 seconds of silence rather than the usual minute silence. They actually did this. Rather than considering his score in the match that killed him to be an unfortunate number since he never got to reach the score he deserved, they used it as a tribute to him.

This guy seriously might have thought that the “Michael Brown Special” was mildly humorous while being a tribute to him. So again, I don’t see why we should assume he’s a racist because of it.

Just curious now, is it better to be considered a racist or stupid and insensitive….really just asking for a friend.

Yeah, to be racist, they’d have had to either offer six shots of a White Russian, or maybe a Black and Tan.

He knew what he was doing, it would be interesting to know if he raised his insurance coverage in the days before making this offer.

Mistake???? I “love” how these people suddenly realize they made a mistake doing such a despicable act. Bigotry in this country is so systemic and disgusting I’m no longer surprised at anything that happens. Just waiting for the next incident to happen in 3…2…1…

SNL cut this from their show because of “time”, can’t understand why they even felt a need to write this but then they haven’t been “funny” in quite some time.

I have a German friend who once told me that the US is twenty years ahead of Germany with regard to race relations. Today I read an article about thousands of Germans in multiple cities turning out to protest immigration by Muslims. There were counter protests as well. I think every country struggles with these issues.

Wow! He couldn’t foresee any repercussions? That would be like offering “roasted flight 93” chickens right after 9/11. Very insensitive.
