Violent and abusive police officers cost lives. Protesters around the world understand that and are expressing their outraged about it. Now a new study, Police Indemnification, published in the NYU Law Review by Joanna C. Schwartz, shows that these bad cops cost money too.  A lot of money!badcop[su_center_ad]

99.8% of the $735 million paid out by in 9,225 large-city police misconduct settlements came from tax revenues; 0.2% was paid by the officers who committed the infractions. In more than 80 small/mid-sized cities studied, police officers contributed nothing to settlements for their misconduct.[su_csky_ad]

That is why it is so important to vote every chance you get. The local elections determine local policy such as screening for those hired to police the community. If you don’t like your community hiring bad cops without screening, vote for leaders in the community that will make sure screening is a top priority. Who we hire, starts with who we elect. Vote.

BS!!! Cops should be monetarily punished if they are bad. Why? Because they are held to a higher standard than “ordinary” citizens. Punishment should not solely be put on tax paying citizens…

City employees…therefore the city is responsible …you can sue them personally too

Big government creates draconian tax laws criminalizing the tax payer, the police then abuse their new big government power and harm the tax payer. The police are sued and lose and the tax payer has to pay for Big Government’s abuse. It’s the circle of life Simba

Until they are held personally responsible for the monetary cost nothing will change. Civil lawsuits against departments and cities are always paid for by the citizens.
