[su_right_ad]Sandy Rios of the American Family Association says what we did to detainees was fine because, after all, “it’s not like we beheaded them.” What’s really offensive isn’t torture to Ms. Rios; it’s President Obama appearing on The Colbert Report. Forced anal feeding is fine, but how dare the president appear on a comedy show!

She even cited the interrogations of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed as proof that torture works, even though the report found that such interrogation methods, including waterboarding, only caused the 9/11 mastermind to make false confessions and did not produce much reliable information.

After a long diatribe against the Senate report, Rios unveiled what really offended her: President Obama’s appearance [Monday] night on the Colbert Report.

    Priorities. It’s all about priorities.

  2. pablopcasso December 10th, 2014 at 7:24 am

Hatred of this POTUS transcends all other priorities, concerns, and as in all groups and individuals in the AFA’s way of thinking. No surprise.

    • Scopedog December 10th, 2014 at 11:25 am

      Sadly, all too true.

  3. Wayout December 10th, 2014 at 7:30 am

You, yuk, yuk, yeah that Colbert show was funny, especially the topic of Obama shredding the Constitution and him making himself Emperor. It actually happened and the dunce Colbert and his equally dumb audience were laughing. This is where we are today folks, as serious a situation for us all as that is and it’s used merely as fodder on a comedy show. We are in big trouble with that kind of attitude.

      • Suzanne McFly December 10th, 2014 at 10:32 am

Imagine Obama making fun of a lie about WMD’s, these hypocrites would go nuts (even worse than they already have).

Almost threw something through the T.V. when I saw that…my sons were in theater at the time, and this mother f*cking a**hole sh*thead was making jokes?

pls excuse language…but that one pisses me off to this day…and my boys even more.

    • whatthe46 December 10th, 2014 at 8:38 am

      you’re just as petty.

    • Carla Akins December 10th, 2014 at 8:40 am

Please explain exactly how POTUS has shredded the Constitution. Please include specifics and supporting links. I’d really like to know.

      • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 8:51 am

And also how he made himself emperor, by using the same tools as his republican predecessors did.

      • whatthe46 December 10th, 2014 at 8:52 am

        don’t hold your breath carla.

      • William December 10th, 2014 at 9:18 am

Asking Wayout to qualify his statements is actually the fastest way to make him leave.

        • Carla Akins December 10th, 2014 at 9:58 am

          Hmmm, who knew? 😉

      • Suzanne McFly December 10th, 2014 at 10:30 am

Should of known someone already asked this. I just asked him the same thing above 🙂

      • Mainah December 10th, 2014 at 10:58 am

Don’t hold your breath while you wait. I see a pattern forming with this one. Parroting other people’s talking points with no back up or clarity. You know … “lawlessness” and “unconstitutional” claims. Just love those. It’s like the sources from Fox … “Some people say”. 🙂

        • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 11:10 am

Yes, that phrase (some people say) is heard an awful lot on fox. News organizations use actual sources. Which sorta proves fox isn’t news at all.

          • Mainah December 10th, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Doesn’t prove it to the intellectually challenged, though, sadly.

      • Wayout December 10th, 2014 at 2:17 pm

The President’s job is to enforce the laws as written by the Congress. Obama failed to do this in two recent instances. The first time concerned the health care law when he put the employer mandate on hold. The law was specific as to date and time of implementation. The second occurred just recently when he made a law all by himself concerning the immigration issue. His plan to unilaterally give out work permits and other documents that current law denies him the ability to do. As for supporting links, look for any article by liberal scholar Jonathan Turley and a recent Washington Post editorial.

        • Carla Akins December 10th, 2014 at 3:46 pm

My education is not in question, I had simply asked you what laws you thought he had broken. I disagree with you on both counts but you have a partial point on delaying the mandate but it hardly rises to the treasonous crime you describe.

    • William December 10th, 2014 at 9:10 am

Well I watched the show. I didn’t see any of the things you were referring to. We understand the right wings lack of comedic outlet. We have Stewart, Colbert and SNL. You guys have fat pasty geezers like Limbaugh and Levine. You’re too busy soaking up the hate, lies and wholesale sludge to ever crack a smile.

“Shredding the Constitution and making himself Emperor”. The truly sad part is that you lack the ability to do anything other than repeat whatever bumper sticker phrases were fed to your narrow inactive constipated brain. Comedy does take imagination, timing and dedication. Sad that you’ll never experience the joy of it all.

If you think that somehow the Presidents appearance on a comedy show degrades the office, consider that the last time we laughed at a President, he was trying to be serious. Bushisms are passé, but lets all take a moment to enjoy the wit and wisdom of conservative comedy.

      • Wayout December 10th, 2014 at 2:23 pm

I don’t think it degrades the Presidency, but laughing at such a serious issue as a president violating the Constitution does.

    • Suzanne McFly December 10th, 2014 at 10:28 am

Where and when did Obama become Emporer or shred the Constitution? Please explain this occurrence to me because I completely missed it and I like to believe I stay current on the news of the day but it seems like I must of fallen into a coma and didn’t realize it.

      • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 10:35 am

If you had been in a coma you would have seen Wayout.

    • arc99 December 10th, 2014 at 11:11 am

Colbert and his audience are one heck of a lot smarter than most right wingers will ever be.

Tell me do you ever stop hating and lying?

Can you not simply stand up for what you believe in without ridiculous nonsense about shredding the Constitution? You right wingers are doing everything you can to make it more difficult for LEGAL, REGISTERED CITIZENS to vote. So stop pretending you folks give a damn about the Constitution.

      • Wayout December 10th, 2014 at 2:29 pm

Well if they are registered, why the reluctance to show an ID? You people make no sense whatsoever.

        • Obewon December 10th, 2014 at 7:17 pm

They are legally registered requiring certified U.S. Birth Certificates/Federal ID’s, with matching Signature, Address, bank account, utility bill mortgage & leases.

So why show an ID? When signature matches kicked your asses so well via 2:1 (D-365 to R-173) dumping Mc’Palin-47% popular vote and 3:2 (D-332 to R-306) beating Mitt’nRyan-47%. From 2000 to 2014 there were just 31 voter fraud convictions proves ‘you sore-losing crybabies make no sense whatsoever.’

        • arc99 December 10th, 2014 at 7:45 pm

No answer to my point that you allegedly care about the Constitution, but simultaneously support efforts to make it more difficult for people to exercise their rights under that Constitution.

          Typical.

You right wingers get called on your BS and you have no response other than criticizing me for pointing our your BS.

    • Wayout December 10th, 2014 at 2:26 pm

One was an innocent man who gave his life willingly for our eternal salvation and had no desire to kill or maim others for political gain. The others were caught on the battlefield fighting American forces and were aligned with groups that would lop your head off or fly the plane you were on into a building if they could. Now can YOU see the difference?

  7. Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 10:11 am

I’m all for torture, just not as an interrogation technique. We should use it as punishment to replace the death penalty. Murderers, rapists, child molesters should all be tortured, castrated. We are too nice to violent criminals, too humane to people who show not one shred of humanity.

    • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 10:24 am

So what about the people who are wrongfully imprisoned, and released after decades, when The Innocence Project proves the prosecution and the cops were lazy? You torture and/or castrate an innocent man? What do you say when he’s released? Sorry? The state is not supposed to be in the revenge business. We’re supposed to be better than that.

      • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 11:20 am

Not revenge, punishment. We have states that use the death penalty, because some idiots assume putting somebody to death is not cruel and unusual. In other words, no we are not better than that.

And I understand your claim of innocent people, that would be my biggest issue. But right now, in some places, innocent people are still being put to death. You can’t make up for taking somebody’s life if the person is innocent. What world do we live in where killing somebody is more humane than torture?

        • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 11:23 am

That’s why I’m against the death penalty. You can’t take it back. An eye for an eye is the bible’s way, but the state isn’t supposed to be run according to the bible. Unless we’re in a theocracy. And despite what you say, torture is not punishment, it’s revenge.

          • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 1:44 pm

It absolutely can be revenge, but it doesn’t have to be. I think any punishment is revenge in a way. Putting people in jail is both punishment for the perpetrator and revenge for the victim.

          • cecilia December 10th, 2014 at 6:05 pm

and THAT attitude is what’s wrong with the so-called prison system in America.

instead of throwing away human beings like they are dirt how about using jail as a kind of Time-Out from society to Teach people who they are – find their talents and encourage them to respect those abilities.

That way when they leave they will have some skills to benefit themselves AND society.

And I’m being SELFISH when I suggest this. I want people to be useful members of society because IT’S GOOD FOR ME. Tax $$ are going to house people who will end up returning to jail. that is a waste of taxpayer $$$.

Now, I’m fully aware that a small minority of criminals (mass murderers, child molesters, etc) tend to just get worse and prison may be the only place for them. But that may be because we haven’t found a real solution yet.

revenge is a stupid method for dealing with problem people.

          • burqa December 10th, 2014 at 11:06 pm

It’s not so much the attitude of the post itself but the attitude of the guy posting it, trying to appear ridiculously ignorant.
People playing that game are tiresome.

    • William December 10th, 2014 at 10:37 am

      “I’m all for torture”.
It’s forbidden here in the USA. Nazi’s were sentenced to death for that sort of thing during the Nuremburg trials. It’s against the Geneva convention, and considered a war crime. There is a particular brick in the foundation of our constitutional makeup that prohibits “cruel and unusual punishment”
What’s it’s like in your country?

      • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 11:17 am

This would not be a war crime, I mean for prisoners within the US. We already have a death penalty, which is in my opinion, cruel and unusual. I also think putting somebody to death is giving them the easy way out. I would rather die than sit in a cell my whole life, having to drown in a sea of my own regret. The death penalty may like a proper punishment to some religious folks who believe that you go to hell for eternity. I, however, do not believe in hell, so killing somebody is in a way letting them off easy. Instead, we put them up in prisons with cable TV and 3 insufficient meals, that is not any punishment.

        • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 11:24 am

If it’s against the law during war, how can we justify it during peacetime?

          • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 1:26 pm

The same way we justify killing somebody via electric chair or lethal injection

        • William December 10th, 2014 at 11:29 am

“We already have a death penalty, which is in my opinion, cruel and unusual. I also think putting somebody to death is giving them the easy way out”..

So is it easy or cruel?

You need to make your mind up. In the meantime please enjoy the link

          http://www.innocenceproject.org/

The first DNA exoneration took place in 1989. Exonerations have been won in 38 states; since 2000, there have been 254 exonerations.

          • 20 of the 321 people exonerated through DNA served time on death row. Another 16 were charged with capital crimes but not sentenced to death.

          • The average length of time served by exonerees is 13.5 years. The total number of years served is approximately 4,337.

          • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 1:41 pm

Killing anybody is cruel, but it can also be the easy way out. They are not mutually exclusive. And you are right, DNA evidence has exonerated many people of false accusations. Since we started using DNA wrongful imprisonment and wrongful death penalty killings have declined drastically.

Also, I’m not saying torture everybody convicted. I’m talking about people with a pattern of this behavior. Serial murderers that admit their crimes, serial rapists, and child molesters where there is ZERO doubt. Those cases do exist. It wouldn’t be a torture mandate, but an option for repeat offenders who just will not change. We are way to easy on these people today.

        • burqa December 10th, 2014 at 11:03 pm

As if there are not enough internet goofballs.

          [sigh]
Read your history and you will see that it was repugnance for what you advocate that was a reason George Washington, John Adams and the Continental Congress forbade torture and abuse of prisoners, and was the kind of treatment they identified with as being cruel and unusual.

Ok, now, can you speak like a thinking adult and not put on this act any more?

    • arc99 December 10th, 2014 at 11:06 am

You really need to read the Constitution.

      Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

      • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 11:17 am

Oh I understand the Constitution. Yet we have a death penalty, which in my opinion is also cruel and unusual.

        • Larry Schmitt December 10th, 2014 at 11:27 am

The death penalty isn’t universal, a lot of states have done away with it. You try living the rest of your life in a prison, with every aspect of your life under someone else’s control, and tell me it’s not punishment. So you have cable, that makes up for losing your freedom? Ask any prisoner if he wouldn’t give up cable to get out.

          • Jimmy Cahill December 10th, 2014 at 1:28 pm

Oh I actually agree. I think rotting in a cell is far worse than death, I’d rather die. It is a form of torture. These people didn’t “lose” their freedom they had it taken away for crimes they committed. Big difference. They should not have cable, we treat our prisoners too well.

        • arc99 December 10th, 2014 at 6:21 pm

Your personal opinion notwithstanding, from a legal standpoint, the death penalty was common when the 8th amendment was ratified.

A very clear legal precedent was established that the death penalty itself is not prohibited by the 8th amendment.

Whether you agree with it or not, that is the precedent of American law. On the other hand, torture and physical mutilation are precisely the kinds of punishments the founders sought to prevent.

    American Family Association?

Obviously the call has gone out and it’s all hands on deck for conservatives to defend torture.
Rios and the others need to be pinned as being pro-torture and be reminded about it for years to come until they see reason.
