Secretary of State John Kerry appeared before Congress Tuesday to make the case for giving the president expansive war powers to fight the Islamic State.

[Kerry requested] a war authorization that would even allow the Pentagon to commit American combat troops to the fight.

Though Mr. Obama doesn’t want combat troops, he won’t have Congress tie his hands against unforeseen directions the war could take should the Islamic State evolve, expand its fight to other countries or prove more difficult to rout, Mr. Kerry said.

“I don’t think anybody wants to get into a long-term ground operation here. But we also don’t want to hamstring the generals and the commanders in the field and the president, who’s commander in chief, from their ability to be able to make some decision they need to make,” Mr. Kerry told the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.[su_csky_ad]

“…we also don’t want to hamstring the generals and the commanders in the field and the president, who’s commander in chief, from their ability to be able to make some decision they need to make,” That hasn’t stopped any President from doing what they want, before, John!

Why appeal for expansive war powers? That’s soooo last year. Why not just say Jesus wants you to invade (insert country here) and bring “democracy” to all those (insert name of godless heathens here).

If all options are on the table then ISIL has to plan for all options possibly being used. Tactically it would make sense. However I would hope that we would do everything we could to avoid putting many ground troops into the region. Make the enemy prepare for an attack that isn’t coming so they aren’t prepared for the attack that is coming.
