Wikileaks had its moments but now Julian Assange who is trying to raise nearly $200,000 for a statue of himself. This move just screams Donald Trump. I can totally see Trump erecting a statue of himself.

I’m sure your freedom dollars will be well spent.

[su_center_ad]Because narcissism is expensive.

The Independent reports:

The WikiLeaks founder has used the whistleblowing website’s official Twitter account to publicise a funding drive for the creation of a life-size bronze public artwork featuring himself, Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden, described as a “a monument to courage”.

It’s true.

According to The Independent, the statue by Italian sculptor Davide Dormino, entitled Anything to Say?, will depict the trio standing on chairs, with another empty seat beside them onto which members of the public will be encouraged to climb – allowing them to stand shoulder to shoulder with the whistleblowers.

The organizers say they need £100,000 to complete the project. They hope to raise the funds by January through the crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

So far, only £19,581 has been pledged. Still, it’s not a shabby amount of money.

The Kickstarter page reads, “We need your help to make a monument to courage.”

“We want your money.” FIFY.

How long does it actually remain a statue after it is erected?

Oh my word. Do these people live on the same planet that I do? Hello?

    • edmeyer_able December 12th, 2014 at 9:07 am

Really, £100K sounds pretty steep, maybe they could make this thing out of wood for starters, just to see how the pigeons will like it.

All for an empty chair, yeah. Even Eastwood used a cheap chair to ramble artistically to. Seriously, am I living in lala land and this is something that would seem reasonable to do? And what I want to know, where, if they got the money, would it be put? Russia? BAAHAAHAAHAAA!!!

I looked at the kickstarter page and I get the Empty chair. It’s a call to stand up and be counted. As an Art piece it has merit.

is it the only way to make the point?
no, but artists have to eat too, ya know 🙂

As an Art piece it has merit.

——————————————————————————————————uh…no …… As a piece to start a discussion it does have merit but creating it out of a lasting medium would give too much weight and tribute to those memorialized by it’s creation….jmo

well, I think you say that because you may not be an artist 🙂

    • edmeyer_able December 12th, 2014 at 11:47 am

BTW how much did you kick in?

      • cecilia December 13th, 2014 at 12:24 am

        I wish I could but I’m a poor artist 🙂

I think if he tried really hard he could have come up with an art piece that encouraged whistle blowing without it also being a statue of himself.

Surprised Greenwald hasn’t ponied up. Odd, that.

I am a little leery of people who advocate erecting statues of themselves. I think it’s been done before………..
