The Born Again Independent Baptist Church in Harlem, Georgia, put up a sign reading “Santa is Satan.” That won’t scare kids, no siree.

[su_center_ad]Pastor Edward Carothers told WRDW,  “We believe that Santa Claus is robbing Christ of his glory.”

During a sermon the pastor explained the sign after people took notice of it.

“We have come to the point where we have replaced Jesus Christ and his birthday with a fictitious character named ‘Santa’ and we have lifted him up instead of lifting up the savior,” Carothers said.

“No, no, no. Not by a hundred miles. It’s amazing to me that people would get this upset over a fictitious creature,” told News 12 in response to residents becoming upset over the sign.

“They grow up believing in Santa Claus, they grow up believing in the Tooth Fairy, they grow up believing in the Easter Bunny, they grow up in some homes believing in Jesus Christ. Well when they get older they find out the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, and Santa Claus ain’t real. So, what about this fourth person called Jesus?” he said.

“You look all over the country and people have Santa Claus and reindeer and everything else up but no Jesus,” the pastor said.

“As much as they’re offended by me and my little sign those three letters that were put on my sign so am I offended by Jesus Christ being denied who he is on the day we celebrate his birth,” Carothers said.

He has a message for those offended by the sign.

“I want them to know that we believe in Jesus and we’re going to lift up and magnify him on his birthday. It’s his birthday. It’s not Santa’s birthday,” he said.

Actually, the 25th is not really Jesus’s birthday. Christmas was originally a Pagan holiday.

If this isn’t a War on Christmas, I don’t know what is. Instead of Santa, and elves, and a tree, and presents, and turkey, and friends and family, we’re supposed to make do with some whining kid in a stable somewhere?

GOP Santa has partnered up with GOP Jesus to take over and make Merika into a theocracy that worships the one true GOP.

      Any luck locating MD??

      • mea_mark December 16th, 2014 at 4:45 pm

Nope. The way the Disqus account appears to be closed with all the comments becoming guest comments makes me think something bad happened and somebody is trying to erase everything. Do you have a twitter account I can send you a DM on, something private?

        • rg9rts December 17th, 2014 at 1:31 am

sorry keep TM in the loop. MD was a recent addition to our social group …is an Alaskan that doesn’t get along with family …drunks….brother lives down the street…I liked her free independent spirit…contributed a lot …sorely missed… I hope that she will find a way to get back if only to see how many she has impacted on

Where would we be without these ‘real’ christians, who can find god in every horrible event and find satan in everything good….

Before I post an opinion I have to see what bill O’lielly says about this.

    • neworleans878 December 16th, 2014 at 11:20 am

Bill always says there’s a war on Christmas.

This would seem to be a civil war within Christmas.

I ran across this a few months ago and found it very useful when referring to conservative pundits.

Schrödinger’s asshole: A person who says something offensive, then waits to see the reaction it gets before deciding whether to claim it was a joke.

Sometimes I get too wrapped up in a story, or too angry (more like it) and fail to recognize the subtleties of sarcasm or a well-played word play. In these cases somebody needs to slap me upside the head.

I’m sure Loofah Bill is knee deep in his defense of Christmas from the unwashed heathens.

If Santa is Satan, then his home must be hell.

So that’s why the north pole is melting. Has nothing to do with the Al Gore scam of global warming. Who knew?

One wonders why god created the devil in the first place.

    • fahvel December 16th, 2014 at 1:16 pm

      one in the same.

    • Larry Schmitt December 16th, 2014 at 5:03 pm

Man created the devil, just like he created god.

  8. fahvel December 16th, 2014 at 1:14 pm

hey, if jc had reindeer that could fly instead of flaky angels and delivered gifts to good boys and girls he’d be a legend instead of a myth.

  9. whatthe46 December 16th, 2014 at 1:24 pm

so, when these children turn about 8 and find out that Santa were actually the parents all along, after being told before then that he is Satan, will they now be afraid of their parents?

    • mea_mark December 16th, 2014 at 1:36 pm

They should, especially if their parents are RWNJ’s.

      • mmaynard119 December 18th, 2014 at 9:09 am

Mark – don’t be encouraging any of the Duggars or Romney’s to procreate any more than they already have.

    • edmeyer_able December 16th, 2014 at 2:13 pm

    • tracey marie December 16th, 2014 at 6:30 pm

using one myth to scare another myth

  11. William December 16th, 2014 at 1:38 pm

It might just be a misprint.

    • mmaynard119 December 18th, 2014 at 9:09 am

  13. tracey marie December 16th, 2014 at 6:29 pm

so only his fictional character is real, got it.

  14. Larry Schmitt December 16th, 2014 at 6:36 pm

I wonder if Satan is also white, since both Santa and Jesus are, according to fox.

  15. Bunya December 16th, 2014 at 7:33 pm

I never got the Barbie Dreamhouse I asked for back in third grade, so yes, Santa IS Satan.

  16. Mark Erickson December 16th, 2014 at 9:33 pm

“Santa Claus” is Spanish for Saint Nicholas. Originally he was known as a bishop who helped a nobleman out with dowry money–in short, an example of doing the right thing in time of need. Bit by bit, the popular image of him got corrupted slowly over time. By now, the result might be said in a way to be a Satan. It tempts and encourages you to be greedy with “gimme, gimme, gimme!” Another thing, it is true that there is nothing in the Bible to say Jesus even meant His birthday to be celebrated like other occasions(such as Passover) at all. But by my reckoning it’s better to ignore that and have a personal conviction to call it Jesus’ day than just have it be a day of nothing.

    • Dwendt44 December 17th, 2014 at 12:23 am

The winter festival was originally a day to celebrate the days getting longer following the winter solstice. Proof that the cold winter will end and life will return in the fields and the animal kingdom. Still note worthy in some folks opinion.

I thought Alan was Santa. Or Satan. Or both.
