Flight Delayed Because Orthodox Jews Refused To Sit Next To Women
[su_right_ad]A Delta flight from JFK to Tel Aviv was delayed 30 minutes because when Orthodox Jews refused to be seated next to women, the women would not move to accommodate them, claiming discrimination.
According to Israel Radio, the stand-off was eventually resolved when an American travelling to Israel offered to change seats.
Ultra-Orthodox Jews cannot touch members of the opposite sex unless they are close relatives or a spouse.
It is not the first time an international flight has been delayed due to issues about seat arrangements.
In September, passengers flying with Israeli airline El Al from New York reported a delay when Haredi passengers refused to sit next to women and reportedly went as far as offering them money to move.[su_csky_ad]

They ended up on the tarmac…read the gothamist to keep up on this local story…this happened in October or November…a couple weeks earlier they pulled the same crap on El Al and El Al caved.. Their sense of entitlement doesn’t carry weight with US carriers. It was suggested that they be dumped on the Gawanis canal by a number of readers

Passengers are assigned seats when they buy their tickets. I would think they’d request special seating arrangements due to their religious beliefs, and I’m sure the airline would be more than happy to accommodate them. Demanding special treatment at the last minute is a bit rude.

You would think an airline that flies to Israel would be well aware of religious customs like this but since it happened they are solely responsible and if anyone needed to be removed it should be the person who has the problem sitting next to a woman but with compensation from Delta. Glad it was resolved amicably.

Wrong…They have El Al and can request seating in advance…this is an old story and Delta kicked them off the flight. They want special consideration…sorry , it doesn’t fly with non kosher airlines.

hell, for a few $ I’d dress as a woman just to get an ultra conservative up grade to a seat where my bottom fits and my legs can fly too. Don’t like the public, charter your own plane.
