[su_right_ad]Washington, D.C. cops misidentified the family of a suspect in a robbery who was killed by police.

About 2 a.m. Christmas Day, a detective knocked on Karen Robinson’s door and asked to see a picture of her son. After she showed them a picture of Raymond Robinson, they told her he was dead.

“I asked them, ‘Are you sure this is my son?'” Karen Robinson told News4. “And they said, ‘Yes, ma’am, we’re sure.’ …I couldn’t believe it, and then I said, ‘Well, what happened?’ and they said, ‘Well, he shot at police, and police returned fire on him.’ And I’m like, ‘No. That’s not my child.'”

But at 10 a.m., Raymond Robinson called his mother. Just half an hour later, the medical examiner/s office called her to go to the morgue to identify the body, and she told them that wasn/t necessary.

On Monday, police identified the deceased as 33-year-old Gregory Marcus Gray. His relatives have been notified.[su_csky_ad]

to be fair, the PD Officials were respectful even though mistaken at first. I can remember when some folks were notified that their child was KIA in Vietnam by pranksters. I can still remember the look of my folks when I showed up at the front door.

(party’s over, so much for good news!)

      ‘selfie snark’ – I think.

On the other hand …we had the parents with a sense of humor…A guy goes home on leave…can’t get in the front door and strangers answer the bell… his parents moved cross town and never told him.. I’m still not sure if he thought it was funny or not 45 years later

Wow, they actually apologized for their mistake! That’s unprecedented.
Or did they say “We apologize if anyone was offended by our action”?

DCPD Officers, as are MOST PD’s, respectful and courteous of the citizenry at large, even though they have to put up with pampering WHITE RACIST Republican Teabaggers more than most.

From all accounts thus far, it was an honest mistake that was apologized for in a direct and professional manner. A lot of stress for the family to be sure, and would not doubt that legal restitution may follow. Accidents happen, which I guess is why apology is listed in the same letter?
