[su_right_ad]The organizer of an event honoring the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. in New Hampshire this month briefly considered inviting Ben Carson to speak, but that attempt ended when Carson wanted a huge fee.

Wayne D. Jennings, the organizer of the 13th annual “Keeping the Dream Alive” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner Celebration on Jan. 19 in Manchester, said he initially reached out to try to line up Carson — the retired neurosurgeon, author and former Fox News contributor who is mulling a bid for the Republican nomination for president.

Jennings declined to say how much the speaker’s fee was. He described it as “hefty” in the sense that the National Cultural Diversity Awareness Council he founded in 2000 is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers and corporate and community sponsors.

Carson is represented exclusively by the Washington Speakers Bureau, which has a range of speakers’ fees, depending on logistics, demand and availability. Some of the fees climb into five digits. The fee code for Carson indicates he is in the range of $40,000 and up.

$40K to spout his interpretation of the bible and how it applies to our Constitution? FFS, in Kansas City that buys you a home.

Republican Jesus ™ hates the poor. This is the flip side of “prosperity theology”. If God rewards the faithful with riches, than the poor are obviously NOT of the faith and deserve what they get. This is, in part, why conservatives hate the social safety nets of welfare, food stamps and Medicaid. Those (and by “those” I mean those) people don’t worship Republican Jesus ™ and are unworthy of being helped. Besides if you feed them, they’ll just breed!

Exactly! Like the elderly that aren’t praying hard enough or faithful enough to have sufficient funds for their meds or food but are still advised to tithe.

Wasn’t this the guy who just said “negros were grateful for what they were given” and now he’s demanding speaker fees ?

Why not just set up a screen and show some of his youtube clips, I wonder if they’ll ask Herman Cain to speak?

Ok first, why would this person not feel honored to speak at this great Memorial? Second, why the hell did anyone believe his speech would reflect anything MLK stood for?

More like he was disinfected. Carson represents everything MLK was against. Send him to a KKK rally, he should fit right in since he says racism no longer exist

No problem if Hillary and Bill get as much as 250-500K per speech. You think Hillary would speak ANYWHERE for a meager 40K?That’s chicken feed for top speakers.

The difference is people want to hear them speak. I’m betting if they were invited they would gladly show up.

shoot! he almost had ’em. I guess Ol’ Ben is going to have to take his grift elsewhere.

  8. fahvel January 6th, 2015 at 11:51 am

strange since he and any other paid speakers really don’t say anything – it’s just a litany of old worn out crap that has been spewed by them since checks became available. They, all of them, contribute nothing to anybody.

teabagg preachy black guy has no interest in non-profits or helping anyone but himself. he will never be President for a myriad of reasons

So, Ben Carson thinks he’s worth $4000? Maybe when he becomes irrelevant after the elections, he’ll offer to pay anybody who will give him a platform.
