Wow – I am glad we released so many terrorist leaders to get him back safely so that we can pay to lock him up here.

    • tracey marie January 27th, 2015 at 11:06 am

stop being so afraid, those men are no more dangerous then the thousands who take their place when caught or killed.

    • Pilotshark January 27th, 2015 at 11:19 am

wow, now that is some narrow open minded thinking right there!

yes, we now can call him a deserter, But that still will not release us from the obligation of bring home all our troops!
So we can try them and convict if needed, then placed in prison making sand out of very large rocks.

The idea is to get Americans back to face American justice in America. Personally I don’t think any terrorist is worth the life of an American. I guess you feel otherwise.

Remember this guy, where was the fake outrage then?

The wild ‘cover-up’ claims of right wing flakes not withstanding, the military works at it’s own pace. Bill O’Reilly has been making a big stink about the outcome of the investigation not moving fast enough for him. Not that what he thinks is important.

  3. NW10 January 27th, 2015 at 11:34 am

The right wing will have a field day with this one.

I have no objection to trading for Bergdahl’s return, we should always make every effort to bring our boys home. However, Obama brought this on himself by cozying up to his parents and bringing them to the WH in an attempt to frame the narrative that he was some kind of hero without all the facts…JMO.

      • Jimijams January 27th, 2015 at 12:09 pm

Not sure if it was all hero and glory. I appreciate your opinion, and, as always, I honor your service.

        • Mike January 27th, 2015 at 12:12 pm

          Yours too…thx

I actually love meeting vets in message boards that can still think clearly, even the ones I disagree with.
It’s been a very long time since I ended my military service, and i truly wish the pundits who call for war at the drop of the hat, would serve, even if it was just one morning with my drill Sargent.
Damn, sometimes that dude’s voice still wakes my ass up.

      • edmeyer_able January 27th, 2015 at 12:12 pm

Obama never claimed he was “a hero”.

        • Mike January 27th, 2015 at 12:18 pm

I said some kind of hero…WH Aides Accused Bergdahl’s critics of ‘Swiftboating’ him, Valerie Jarret said he served with honor and distinction, and his parents were treated to a Rose Garden party…that’s a hero’s welcome in my eyes…
My homecoming was a bit different in Sept 69…just sayin…

          • Jimijams January 27th, 2015 at 12:21 pm

Ah, so you were in Southeast Asia about a year before me. No wonder I liked your comment.
My homecoming in ’72 was kind of pleasant. My neighborhood bar threw me a party, and my parents had the house decorated in red white and blue. It was tough, but man, I am glad no one spit at me while going through O’Hare. They wouldn’t have liked what I would have gave them back.

I came back through Frisco (Travis)…nuff said. My hometown was split down the middle and by that time I was convinced it was all a waste of time…

          • edmeyer_able January 27th, 2015 at 12:23 pm

Just sayin…. if Obama had treated Bowie the way Fox did then he would have been vilified for it. It was a no win for O no matter which way he went so he took the humanitarian route.
Don’t blame O for the ills of the Nam War

          • Mike January 27th, 2015 at 12:27 pm

I like my president, but he’s not perfect. I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

    • Jimijams January 27th, 2015 at 12:10 pm

      They already are.
Brian, “Brain Dead” Kilmeade was gleeful in reporting this news.

  4. Mike January 27th, 2015 at 11:34 am

Good, let’s get to the bottom of this…As a vet who has served in a war zone I would be outraged if this man were given a pass because of political correctness. I might not support the corporate fascist wars we get ourselves into but desertion is a serious offense that puts your fellow soldiers in harms way. JMO

    • tracey marie January 27th, 2015 at 11:42 am

He had a habit of wandering off for a day or more and coming back. He did not desert or help the enemy

      • Mike January 27th, 2015 at 11:46 am

Tracy, that’s why we’re going to have a trial…we’ll know a lot more afterwards.

        • Jimijams January 27th, 2015 at 12:08 pm

          Agreed.
As a vet myself you know as well as I do the seriousness of desertion charges. He should face his day in court, and not get a pass.

      • TheScottCSmith January 27th, 2015 at 12:05 pm

In the military you can’t just wander off for a day or more and then come back — it’s called being absent without leave.

        • Pilotshark January 27th, 2015 at 12:32 pm

AWOL this is true, however with him coming and going as he did, it was not desertion until he didn’t come back.

it would be much clearer, if say he did this under an mortar attack or fire fight, that is desertion no way around it. but seeing it must have been OK with his team Sargent and platoon leader or company commander going and coming, they didn’t fear he was sitting them up for attacks.

we will have to WAIT and see what comes out of this. imo

#BREAKING: Army tells my producer no decision made about charting #BoweBergdahl w/desertion; says any other info reported isn’t true.

    Guess we’ll wait and see.

MSNBC just said minimum penalty would be forfeit 300K in back pay and less than honorable discharge.

    • Dwendt44 January 27th, 2015 at 2:28 pm

I’m guessing they mean dishonorable discharge. There is also the ‘general’ discharge that doesn’t mean much but you can’t re up later on and some nosy employers might not hire you.

Alan if you can’t make up your mind I’m just going to watch cat videos the rest of the day.
