DSC_0005_003[su_r_sky_ad]The most ironic element of the story is that the charter school in question is located at Howard University in DC, a college that was established to educate Americans of African ancestry. The incident provides yet another reason to mandate unionization of all private schools:

Three social studies teachers at a D.C. public charter school were fired for teaching black history lessons beyond what’s in the curriculum, students’ parents told News4. …

D.C. Council Education Committee member Anita Bonds and Council member Brianne Nadeau are looking into the claims that the three teachers were fired for teaching too much black history. …

Parents said they are also upset because the teachers were fired and escorted out of the building in front of the kids.

I had to take Black history. I went to an almost all-black high school and I was proud to learn America’s history. It’s all history and I’m big on that subject. It was pretty awesome.

History is history and it comes in all colors, ethnicities, beliefs and cultures.
What’s the sense in teaching history if you’re deliberately intending to censor selective facts of what has occurred in the past?

Very good point ka, very good. History is linear, teach it as such and include any/all events & figures that had impact on it, during k-12. Now in college, where specializations are starting to shape for students w/a career path, then get specific… black history, indian history, waves of immigration or such. But in k-12, I believe it all should be taught and be all inclusive.
