3 Shot At Pennsylvania Mall
A 17-year-old male opened fire at a mall in Monroeville, PA Saturday evening. Three people were wounded, including one who was the gunman’s intended target.
Tarod Thornhill a 17 year old black male was arrested at a residence in Brackenridge. Gunfire erupted at a Pittsburgh-area shopping center on Saturday, wounding three people, two critically, in a shooting that was targeted, police said. The mall and a hospital’s emergency room were placed on lock-down as police searched for the gunman…
Thornhill is charged as an adult with aggravated assault, attempted homicide, and recklessly endangering other people. He will be lodged at the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment. Using images captured from social media and store video surveillance detectives were able to positively identify Thornhill.

My son lives a few miles from that mall, so I was reading a lot of online news articles and comments last night. The segregation idea is unfortunately not unique to the above poster. People were actually making serious suggestions about requiring people to show work ID badges in order to ride the public buses out of Pittsburgh and into the suburbs. Sometimes I think I underestimate how widespread racism is. I don’t see very much of it in my community. But the online comments were really shocking, including prolific use of racial epithets. I don’t know if these online commenters represent 0.01% of the population, or 10%. I hope it’s the former.

I believe you’re correct. We have one local station that used to allow all manner of comments on it’s online news. Enough people put up a fuss that it has stopped, not the racism, of course – just the comments.
I am firm believer that you can’t allow them a platform. I know some subscribe to the theory that they’d rather know these people’s honest feelings, but I don’t like giving them a chance to spread their hate.

Ease of obtaining a firearm??? try buying a pistol yourself and see how easy it is. Criminals do not go by rules or laws. When you make more laws to make it ‘HARDER” to get a gun, do you think it will be any harder for them to get guns? all you would do is make it harder for those that want to defend themselves. If someone was there to defend those three people, maybe, just maybe they would not have gotten hurt like they did. Criminals love unarmed people, make no mistake about it. do not blame the guns for a misguided individual. I agree it is probably drug related, but that problem too stems from bad home and family life. We need to get morals back, that will help things immensely without trying to blame an object. pitiful thinking….

you do not live in Pennsylvania where this took place then. To sell a handgun in this state, it has to be legally transferred and with a background check. If you buy a handgun in this state and do not transfer it, you have an illegal gun.

Here’s the mall’s new policy:
It will require all mall visitors under 18 years of age “to be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian who is 21 years of age or older on Friday and Saturday nights after 6 p.m.. Teens and pre-teens are welcome to shop at the mall on Friday and Saturday nights,” said mall general manager Tom Gerber in a written statement. “We are only asking that our youth customers shop with a parent or guardian who is 21 years of age or older during six of the total 72 shopping hours the mall is open each week.”
