[su_right_ad]The piling on continues.

Another of Brian Williams’ wild reporting tales is being called into question – this time it’s an account of his trip to Israel in 2006.

In a 2007 interview, Williams recalled riding on an Israeli military helicopter that was flying just above rockets fired by Hezbollah as they were passing over northern Israel, according to The Washington Post.

“There were Katyusha rockets passing just underneath the helicopter I was riding in,” he told Fairfield University student reporter Emily Fitzmaurice.

But he never disclosed that close brush with Hezbollah fire in an NBC News blog post he penned in July 2006…

In that same student interview, Williams also recounts his 2003 helicopter ride in Iraq, saying “I looked down the tube of an RPG that had been fired at us and it had hit the chopper in front of ours. And I’m so fortunate to be sitting here.”

How long before it turns out he wasn’t really sexually abused by Bill Cosby!

unfortunately for him, these were just stupid unnecessary lies, so man, what has he actually lied about that matters most, information wise.

      • Jake February 10th, 2015 at 7:21 am

That is exactly the problem – how would we know if he is telling the truth about anything now.

For “piling on,” see the Bruce Jenner coverage here……..

In other news, it turns out that Brian Williams DIDN’T REALLY create cold fusion in a mayonnaise jar….

Someone who has presented a false narrative that contributes to his respected position, while knowing he wasn’t deserving of it, is an aspect of journalism that should not be tolerated.
(I know… “but Fox”, except we all know there’s no need for respectable journalism there.)

Anyway… I don’t feel like this is piling on.
It’s a collective expression of hurt over what is becoming a deeper and deeper well of betrayal from someone many thought of as a good, solid journalist.

But I’m guessing the narrative should probably even out soon enough.

I agree. At first I was more sympathetic because memory can be a funny thing. There have been times when old friends and I discussed events of yore and had very different recollections and different points of emphasis.
But a journalist has to be more careful, especially when discussing events he covered and spent a lot of time poring over as he put those stories together.
Then more came out and it seems the embellishment wasn’t quite so accidental.
I don’t think it should cost him his career, but he’s got a lot of fences to mend and a 6-month vacation is a good idea. I hope he uses that time wisely.

I hear ya… I certainly can’t be sure my memory is perfect when thinking back to events that happened a long time ago.

I hope Mr. Williams learns his lesson and comes out better for it on the other side; but if I were NBC, I wouldn’t want him back.
(Just from a business pov, his rep will never be what it was and it would hurt the integrity of the station to have him back.)

credibility is the key word and Brian isn’t credible after this and it’s something almost imposable to get back after it’s lost.

when has a talking head ever been credible?

I’ll get excited about the Brian Williams story when Fox gets excited about Loofah Bill and his tales of combat. http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/?p=25445

Is his exageration any different than weather casters building up the big storm that never was?
