[su_right_ad]There are more veto threats than there are bills.

After six weeks in session and 139 roll call votes in a House and Senate that feature some of the largest Republican majorities in generations, one of the most telling statistics from the new Congress is this: President Obama’s veto threats outnumber the bills Congress has been able to send him.

When Republicans swept into power last November, they promised a new era of productivity and discipline that would break four years of gridlock. “America’s New Congress,” they called it.

But far from striking a bold contrast with the last two terms of stalemate, congressional Republicans have quickly run into familiar obstacles, including partisan paralysis and party infighting.

The frightening thing is they won the midterms on this platform & they could win again in 2016.

    • Tim Coolio February 16th, 2015 at 9:18 am

Only 1/3 of mostly right leaning voters voted, hardly a GOP mandate.

I’m well aware of the numbers, that doesn’t change the fact that their base still supports them. btw the gerrymandering and voter ID laws that were in place in 2014 will still be in place 2 years from now.

    GOP simply cannot govern !

    • Tim Coolio February 16th, 2015 at 9:18 am

That must be why they like small government.

The do-nothing congress of 2014-16 will achieve little
change, they will try to kill the ACA, it will be
vetoed, they’ll try to cut taxes more for the rich,
it will be vetoed, they will try to build a fence
along the Mexican border, won’t get done, the
Keystone will get vetoed, they will try to impeach
    Obama and that won’t happen!

  4. William February 16th, 2015 at 9:33 am

If the Keystone pipeline gets vetoed, I expect congress to swing into action and immediately vote to repeal the ACA

    • rg9rts February 16th, 2015 at 1:16 pm

The house did for the 56th time last week

  5. Mike February 16th, 2015 at 11:03 am

It’s easy to criticize but hard to do better. The Repubs are just not smart enough to actually govern.

    • Ronald L February 16th, 2015 at 2:38 pm

Pledging to do nothing else except make Obama a one-term president isn’t a governing philosophy.

    >> Republicans Can’t Get Congress Working…

… and then they threaten Obama with impeachment for doing his job.

  9. Suzanne McFly February 16th, 2015 at 7:14 pm

I seen a speech given by boner where he blamed the dems for not letting stuff get done in the Senate. Does he hear himself?

If you are surprised by this, then my question to you is the following: where have you been for the past ten years?
