Republicans in Idaho say the state should be declared “Judeo-Christian” as a means of returning to constitutional roots and the Founding Fathers’ visions, and they’ve pressed forward with a resolution to do just that – albeit symbolically only. The resolution was due for vote by the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee and was nonbinding. But its…

Does Idaho have a large population of lawyers looking for work and believe this is a good way to solve the unemployment situation.

    • AmusedAmused February 27th, 2015 at 10:48 am

Unfortunately, challenging laws like this means working for free, or nearly free. And as for government lawyers who have to defend this stuff — the rank-and-file are severely underpaid, at best, and any new positions out there are usually unpaid.

Thankfully, it’s not a law, and hasn’t even been suggested by the legislature (which ranks right up there with the Kansas legislature for intelligence), and it has only been proposed by some zealot christianists in northern Idaho. No actual government has picked up on this yet. However, I did read that the Ada County (Boise) Highway District has decided to start holding prayers at the beginning of each meeting…

Republicans in Idaho need to get another hobby. Wasting their time on these motions is not productive.

    • rg9rts February 27th, 2015 at 9:47 am

They could repeal the ACA like the house does

      • thinkingwomanmillstone February 27th, 2015 at 9:51 am

Or work on their Papyrus making and alchemy studies.

Back in the very early centuries, Christianity borrowed from and reinterpreted the ancient Jewish scriptures, and then spent much of the subsequent two millennia treating the Jews as less than human. Now these right-wing Christians are suddenly chumming-up to their Judeo-buddies, as if they have been brethren in faith ever since Jesus was supposedly here in the flesh. This attempt to establish Idaho as a theocratic state, committed to Judeo-Christian principles (a bit of an oxymoron) must be a reaction to the presence of a deity who has a different name (Allah), or also to the growing number of Americans who no longer subscribe to this religious mumbo-jumbo.

” Now these right-wing Christians are suddenly chumming-up to their Judeo-buddies…”
      .
That’s because it’s vogue right now to hate on Muslims. However, I’m optimistic the Christian Jew-hating will resurrect once everyone loses interest in trashing Islam.

So much for their grasp of history…nothing like making a national fool of ones self..although that is a gopee trait

    • William February 27th, 2015 at 12:11 pm

Exactly. Always be careful what you wish for.

      • fahvel February 27th, 2015 at 2:32 pm

don;t be too sure – outsiders seem to be considering it.

      • Dwendt44 February 27th, 2015 at 6:37 pm

there seems to be a lot of overlap.

    • Jack E Raynbeau February 27th, 2015 at 11:33 pm

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh! They’re taking the focus off of Utah.

“Supporters, meanwhile, say they only want to foster the type of political atmosphere that would make James Madison and Thomas Jefferson proud”

    ________

By violating EVERYTHING that Madison and Jefferson held dear.

Proving once again that today’s conservatives are really the 180 degree opposite of EVERYTHING they claim to be.

    • Dwendt44 February 27th, 2015 at 11:53 am

Most especially since Madison and Jefferson were NOT christians. Many of the ‘Founding Fathers’ were Deists, and not christians. Our first five presidents were NOT christians. (add in Lincoln and maybe Eisenhower).

    • Chris19741949 February 27th, 2015 at 11:14 pm

These “supporters” have no clue whatsoever of the political atmosphere that would make Madison and Jefferson “proud”. I am not sure that they could tell you anything about either Madison or Jefferson either…the clueless leading the dims.

“It’s important that Christians stand up and be unashamed to say they’re Christians.”
It is more important as his role as an elected official to follow the constitution.

  8. William February 27th, 2015 at 12:04 pm

    WOW.

  9. ExPFCWintergreen February 27th, 2015 at 5:16 pm

They have to get the “Judeo” in there to appease the Israel Über Alles wing of the GOP, despite the fact that less than 1/2 of 1% of Idaho’s population is Jewish.

    • Dwendt44 February 27th, 2015 at 6:35 pm

And one of the main supporters of right wing wack jobs thinks all Jews should be converted.

    • B A Dragon February 27th, 2015 at 9:06 pm

and 23% are Jehovah’s Witnesses, which many do not consider Xian. 18% are unaffiliated and about 7% are other faiths. So that makes it only 52% identifying as Christian (including Catholics) Not to mention a little thing like the US Constitution . . . .

      • Chris19741949 February 27th, 2015 at 11:11 pm

There are a lot of Mormons too…

  11. B A Dragon February 27th, 2015 at 9:00 pm

The Republican party is no more Christian than the rest of the Pharisees

  12. Chris19741949 February 27th, 2015 at 11:10 pm

The Kootenai County Republican Party Committee doesn’t even know what “Judeo-Christian” means. They just know it sounds good. You can feel the vacuum of complete ignorance when you drive into Idaho…at least in some places.

  13. Jack E Raynbeau February 27th, 2015 at 11:32 pm

    Idaho is Utah-lite.
