The Tennessee boy somehow got a gun, as Anomaly reports, via the AP:

The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department said the toddler shot the infant with a .25-caliber automatic pistol in a home Tuesday afternoon in the community of Hillsboro, which is about 70 miles southeast of Nashville.

The 18-month-hold was transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.

Sgt. Danny Ferrell told the Associated Press that investigators are still trying to determine how the child was able to get a hold of the weapon. He said the 3-year-old was not harmed.

Any time a child is able to access a firearm, it’s because the “responsible” adults were negligent in their storage of said weapon. I hope charges for the gun’s owner will be forthcoming.

    • Bunya March 4th, 2015 at 1:37 pm

And the only way for “irresponsible” adults to obtain firearms is by lax gun laws.
I know the old saying, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people” – to which I respond “dead is dead”. Once somebody is dead at the hands of a toddler who got his/her hands on a loaded gun, it’s a little too late to say, “oops”.

“Somehow.” The same way they all do. Irresponsible adults left a loaded gun lying around with no trigger lock, with kids in the house. We’re all very familiar with the details by now.

      • William March 4th, 2015 at 11:53 am

Yeah it’s always a baffling mystery isn’t it?
        Guess what else baffles me?
If there is any discussion that even smacks of banning any particular firearm or ammunition, the NRA cretin chain activates and sends a flurry of “patriots” in here to defend their position….
        BUT
When a kid gets shot in the head, their silence is deafening.

        • Larry Schmitt March 4th, 2015 at 11:56 am

No, because the right to have as many firearms as you want, including those whose only purpose is to kill people, is an absolute right, as opposed to every other right in this country, including the right to vote.

You do understand that Tennessee isn’t in the UK right?
Can we talk about the USA now?

          • Larry Schmitt March 4th, 2015 at 12:41 pm

But they all speak English (after a fashion). Isn’t that close enough?

          • arc99 March 4th, 2015 at 12:22 pm

A twenty-two year old set of statistics is relevant how?

But since you bring the United Kingdom into the discussion, the fact is that as of 2014, they have some of the most stringent gun control laws in the western world, essentially banning private ownership of many types of guns.

Oh and they have universal mandatory health insurance.

So if you think the answer to our woes here in America is to follow Britain’s example both areas, then count me in.

same in my little country – anything but a long gun for hunting (which is a real rigamarole to accomplish) is 100% prohibited and, yeah, free meds, college etc. very nice place to be.

From my perspective, there are already laws against this. This is negligence, child endangerment, ect… Laws just need to be enforced. I don’t see this as a gun rights debate at all.

        • bluejayray March 4th, 2015 at 12:14 pm

Might as well slide the crib over so it’s right under the gun rack. The kid could get hurt climbing up on the table…

  3. bluejayray March 4th, 2015 at 12:12 pm

The child “somehow” got a gun? I doubt that there’s any mystery as to how.

    • thinkingwomanmillstone March 4th, 2015 at 4:57 pm

He probably used the gun that his Uncle Daddy Grandpop JimBob bought him for his birthday.
