[su_right_ad]The Wisconsin governor refused to state his position when he ran for governor, but now he’s preaching to the far-right.  The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports:

Walker said in last year’s campaign he opposed abortion, but refused to say whether he supported banning the procedure after 20 weeks. At one stage, he ran an ad saying earlier restrictions he approved were aimed at patient safety and that he understood the decision to terminate a pregnancy was an “agonizing one.”

“I’m pro-life, so that part shouldn’t shock anybody,” he told Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editors and reporters in October. “It doesn’t shock anybody, the legislation I’ve signed in the past.”

In a Tuesday letter, he addressed specific legislation head on.

“As the Wisconsin legislature moves forward in the coming session, further protections for mother and child are likely to come to my desk in the form of a bill to prohibit abortions after 20 weeks,” his letter said. “I will sign that bill when it gets to my desk and support similar legislation on the federal level.

“I was raised to believe in the sanctity of life and I will always fight to protect it.”

These idiots keep running so far to the right, can’t we put up a brick wall for them to hit?

We already have one. It’s called the American General Populace. The lemmings run into it every 4 years now-a-days.

As Gloria said…if men could get pregnant…abortion would be a sacrament

      • William March 6th, 2015 at 9:26 am

In all fairness, there are notable republicans who have defended abortion in certain situations.

According to a poll conducted in 2013 by National Journal (which is largely funded by the Gates Foundation), a 20-week abortion ban is supported by:

    50% of women
    46% of men
    33% of Democrats

Based on these numbers, it would appear that Scott Walker’s position is mainstream.

By that same measure, support for firearms background checks is decidedly mainstream, despite the NRA hysterics of portraying any supporter of such policy as a gun-confiscating agent of the UN.

Popularity and sound policy are two very different things.

In my opinion, popular firearms restriction are sound policy. The current popular support for restricting abortions is not in my opinion sound policy as it accomplishes nothing other than making a bad time in a woman and family’s life, even worse with less time to make a critical decision.

      http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/211321-poll-most-gun-owners-support-universal-background-checks

Poll: 92 percent of gun owners support universal background checks

“92 percent of gun owners support universal background checks”
“Popularity and sound policy are two very different things”

Your words. You just gave the NRA permission to ignore the polls.

        • rg9rts March 6th, 2015 at 8:52 am

NRA another collection of loons…You can have them carrying their AR 15’s with optional; banana clips and armor piercing ammo in YOUR grocery. Not mine

        • jasperjava March 6th, 2015 at 11:48 am

First you support a bad policy because of polls.
Somebody shows you good policy that is blocked despite the polls.
For you, that confirms that bad policy should triumph.

          Your “logic” makes no sense.

          • Robert M. Snyder March 6th, 2015 at 1:09 pm

I never said that I supported Walker’s policy. I simply pointed out that 50% of women support it. How do you explain that fact? Are you smarter than all of these women? Aren’t you curious about their reasons for supporting a 20-week ban? For a long period in our history, the opinions of women were not taken seriously. If you are not willing to take seriously the opinions of 50% of women, then just how much do you really care about women’s opinions?

          • jasperjava March 6th, 2015 at 2:27 pm

            Can you be more disingenuous.
You cite some bogus poll to back up your bogus position. I have more respect for women than to smear them with your unsubstantiated “data”.

It’s not about what braindead conservatives believe that counts. It’s what is in the interests of the common good that counts.

          • tracey marie March 6th, 2015 at 2:51 pm

As a women I will say mind your business and stop posting lies. the 50% number is based ona poll that asked about late term abortions.

        • arc99 March 6th, 2015 at 12:18 pm

The NRA is going to ignore polls which contradict their agenda regardless of whether they have my permission or not.

My point is that the NRA is decidedly not mainstream, despite their claims to the contrary.

          • Robert M. Snyder March 6th, 2015 at 12:56 pm

50% of women support a 20-week abortion ban. Suppose that number were 75%. Would it affect your position? If not, then why would you fault the NRA for ignoring polls?

The fact is that you and the NRA have something in common. You will fight for your cause because you believe it is right, regardless of the polls. I think there is merit in that. The people who ignore polls tend to be the people who influence the polls. We need people with leadership qualities. You and the NRA have those qualities. You differ on the issues, but not on your approach to the issues.
