A man was killed by a Pit Bull while trying to resuscitate the dog’s owner.

Lt. Phil Redford says police believe the dog’s owner suffered a heart attack. The other man was attacked by the dog as he tried to resuscitate the owner.

A police department news release says both people were pronounced dead at a local hospital. Their names haven’t been released.

Ohio County Animal Control removed the dog from the home and placed it in quarantine.

The dog probably thought the good Samaritan was hurting the owner and attacked. My gentle giants (Swissies see picture) would most likely do the same thing if they thought I was being ‘attacked’ by someone, A dog can’t tell the difference between someone hurting you or helping you when you are on the ground. All they can tell is their owner is being touched by a stranger and that isn’t something a lot of dogs will tolerate. My sympathies for all involved.

My first thoughts also. I had a Pitt and he was as sweet as can be, but if he thinks you are hurting me he would not be so sweet, my Chihuahua is a lot meaner and he would bite you for looking at me. The breed is not always the actual problem, the dog was just unsure what the stranger was doing to his parent.

The same thing could have happened with a poodle or a basset hound.

I honestly believe so, they will probably put this Pitt down and that breaks my heart.

It killed a human, it must be put down. It is sad but the breed is tremendously strong and deady, it is not a good pet because of it’s breeding. I agree it is sad, but it is necessary

Neither of those breeds would have killed the second victim. I know lots of folks think Pit bulls are sweet and cuddly and misunderstood.

I have seen vicious dogs of every breed, large and small.

When was the last time you heard of a person killed by a Poodle or Basset Hound?

          • John_St_John March 9th, 2015 at 9:27 pm

When was the last time you heard of a rogue cop going off half cocked and killing an unarmed citizen? Lot more often then Pitt Bull attacks.

          • Snick1946 March 10th, 2015 at 1:43 pm

But the breed is known for this sort of thing. So because rogue cops kill citizens with no justification then society needs to also accept the lethal creatures in our midst? Your argument is crap and you know it is. I think the entire breed needs to be euthanized.

          • John_St_John March 10th, 2015 at 4:03 pm

            Euthanized right along side you.

            You first, pal.
You love this damn breed of dog more than you care about the welfare of other human beings.

          • John_St_John March 10th, 2015 at 4:31 pm

Wrong, I care about all animal and insect life over humans. They are not senseless butchers who go about killing their own for the sheer pleasure of seeing someone/thing writhe in pain and torment.

Not that I agree with the euthanization (sp?) of an entire breed but If you care about animals more than humans, why be on this forum at all? I for one have never cared for the notion of animals over humans. We have all these flaws yes but that aspect is not sovereign to humans. Plenty of animals kill for pleasure wolves for one and if i’m not mistaken dogs are from the same species yes?

but without the horrendous damage and death

your chihuahua can’t rip your throat out with one bite can it? pit bulls are unpredictable i don’t trust them.

And that is your right, however I know different because I raised an abused Pitt who became the most loving animal I have ever known and I miss and love him with all my heart.

I miss the old days when people used to have normal dogs and NOT killer pit-bulls and rotwiellers.
