This is what happens when we look like buffoons to our adversaries.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that a letter from Republican lawmakers warning that any nuclear deal could be scrapped by the next U.S. president is a sign of “disintegration” in Washington, the New York Times reports.

Said Khamenei: “Isn’t this the ultimate degree of the collapse of political ethics and the U.S. system’s internal disintegration?”

Thanks gop for creating the teabaggs and inviting them into your party

    • Scopedog March 12th, 2015 at 3:26 pm

Unfortunately we have to shoulder some of the blame, since we didn’t get out enough votes to prevent the teabaggers from getting into office (see 2010 and 2014).

      • tracey marie March 12th, 2015 at 3:38 pm

I absolutely agree, I get attacked when ever I say just that. we sat home in a snit because the far left created a purity test for Dems.

…Thanks to the GOP idiots who are actively working against him because, you know….he’s smarter than them.

      Oh, and he’s Black.

    • jasperjava March 12th, 2015 at 3:27 pm

The Republicans are the ones who wrote that letter, handing propaganda ammunition to the Iranians. They are the ones tearing the country apart with their mindless hatred.

    • tiredoftea March 12th, 2015 at 4:33 pm

I assume that you will be voting for and supporting Pres. Graham’s first act by calling the military to force Congress to act on his demands?

Nah ….kiss his cheeks…like he saw Boner practicing

Gridlock, government shutdowns, obstruction, Citizens United, political corruption…the disintegration has been in progress for a while.

    • John Tarter March 12th, 2015 at 4:10 pm

Yep, what is wrong is now right, what is right is now wrong, every type of perversion is celebrated and to top it all off we have a President who ignores the Constitution in his quest to “fundamentally change” the nation.

      • tiredoftea March 12th, 2015 at 4:30 pm

Yet, you can’t identify one unconstitutional act this President has done. But, your silence on the war criminal administration of dubya tells all.

        • trees March 12th, 2015 at 4:53 pm

Bypassing the congress is unconstitutional. We have a system of government, but when the executive writes his own legislative directives, it all breaks down…..

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBVl63yTmkI

          Can you say, hypocrite?

          • tiredoftea March 12th, 2015 at 5:02 pm

But, yet, again, there is no proof, right? A video of sound bites does not stand the test of strict scrutiny when it comes to Constitutional trespass. So, you yammer about it, but if there were actual, real proof the right would have jumped on him long ago.

          • jasperjava March 12th, 2015 at 5:06 pm

            Hypocrite.

          • Dwendt44 March 13th, 2015 at 12:25 am

Since it isn’t amnesty, you off base as usual. The executive branch has considerable leeway in enforcing the laws of the land. AND don’t forget Bush’s signing statements that says he not going to enforce laws he doesn’t like.
Where is the ‘bypass’ you speak of?

          • fancypants March 13th, 2015 at 1:21 am

starting an undeclared war.. now that’s bypassing congress 13yrs and counting

      • jasperjava March 15th, 2015 at 12:17 am

“every type of perversion is celebrated”

I can’t think of anything more perverted than Republicans stabbing their country in the back and double-crossing the President by sabotaging sensitive international negotiations with their lies.

  7. rg9rts March 12th, 2015 at 4:33 pm

Send a copy to Boner…LOL Boy did he nail that one

      Because they know religion better

  9. Warman1138 March 12th, 2015 at 4:43 pm

well hells bells – I’ve been yacking about the point of view from abroad for quite some time.

  10. trees March 12th, 2015 at 5:01 pm

Iran was never going to agree to anything that was going to keep them from getting nuclear weapons, it was never going to happen….

The Ayatollahs were open to negotiation as long as it was a means to an end. If they could get a deal where they could just continue along in a few years, well, they were good with that, hell, if they could just negotiate endlessly, always seeming to be near reaching a deal, but that deal always being somewhat elusive….sure, they were all for that, but, if it was deal where they were going to have to abandon their nuclear pursuit….. sorry, but there is zero chance of that happening.

    • tiredoftea March 12th, 2015 at 5:04 pm

Thanks for sharing your long experience in international negotiations with us. We are indebted to you for insight.

    • jasperjava March 12th, 2015 at 5:05 pm

Look at Mr. Middle East Expert, pontificating on what the Iranians are thinking.

You’re a joke. Not a funny one, either.

    • arc99 March 12th, 2015 at 5:28 pm

I will repeat a question I have asked numerous times. How many billions of dollars do you want to spend and how many military casualties do you wish to incur to continue the fantasy that ultimately, the United States can dictate to other countries whether they should have nuclear weapons.

There are two solutions, diplomatic or military. The cost of the military solution will consume in a day or two, the entire $500million you righties whine about with Solyndra. I think it is no accident that the right never mentions the possible cost in blood and money of a military solution

After we are done with the Iranians, do we invade Jordan next?

      http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/01/jordan-nuclear-power-114712.html#.VQICX_nF_eE

And yet even as Western attention has focused all around Jordan—and especially on the nuclear negotiations with Iran—in a little-noticed series of moves, the Kingdom’s been edging closer to going nuclear itself. In fact, the Kingdom of Jordan, Washington’s most reliable Arab partner, is the latest Middle Eastern state considering nuclear energy that is refusing to relinquish its right to enrich.

      • trees March 12th, 2015 at 5:55 pm

I will repeat a question I have asked numerous times. How many billions of dollars do you want to spend and how many military casualties do you wish to incur

A military action is not political, nor should it be. You have repeatedly asked a political question in regards to taking a military action. If you’re going to engage militarily, then you do so with the perspective that you will not stop short of your military goal. You go all in, you’re in it, to win it. Successful military campaigns are not from a political calculation, wars are not fought with an eye toward duration, they are waged with the goal of accomplishing, by force, that which could not be resolved, or achieved amicably.

        Now we have two choices.

        1) We can end Iranian ambition to acquire nuclear weapons.

        2) We can allow Iranian nuclear ambition, and concede the fact that Iran will become a nuclear superpower.

Diplomacy with Iran will not work, because Iran does not fear military reprisal from us. Why? Because Obama is weak, Obama has stated on numerous occasions that he does not support military action, and that he will not engage militarily. Obama has effectively removed his biggest advantage off the table. If your adversary fears you, then your military advantage is a huge motivator in a negotiation. If your adversary is fearless, then you have nothing with which to propel your demand. Understand this, preventing the Iranians from obtaining nuclear weapons, is making a demand.

What is it that Congress has done, exactly, that has undermined the president?

        Your president has undermined himself.

With his political opponents he is obstinate, when he should be conciliatory

With his global adversaries he is weak, when he should be strong.

He makes poor choices, and utilizes poor judgment.

He is divisive, and polarizing at home. He is weak, and ineffective abroad. This is because he lives in an imaginary world, and fails to recognize the world that is.

He is a politician, and not a leader

        • Anomaly 100 March 12th, 2015 at 6:00 pm

“A military action is not political, nor should it be.”

Oh please tell that to the 47 seditionists.

Sorry, but the GOP credibility in matters of national security is just about zero and will stay that way for decades.

        • Warman1138 March 13th, 2015 at 6:03 am

All military actions have political beginning and a political ending. Failure to recognize this almost always leads to disaster. One can win every battle in a war and still lose that war politically.

        • jasperjava March 13th, 2015 at 2:06 pm

Your blind racist hatred against the President makes you irrational.

You think that mindless warmongering and saber rattling is the only way to show strength in foreign policy?

It’s people like you who make the world a living hell. There’s never enough blood, pain, death and destruction for you. If people are not white enough for you, or they speak some gibberish language, or they insist on worshipping God in a different way, you think they should be turned into charred bloody corpses.

I’m just glad we have a strong President like Barack Obama who can resist the easy path of war and fearmongering. I’m glad sick, violent people like you are becoming fewer and fewer.

          • trees March 13th, 2015 at 7:16 pm

        • jasperjava March 13th, 2015 at 2:08 pm

“a military action is not political ”

War is the continuation of politics by other means. We’ve known that since Clausewitz.

        • jasperjava March 13th, 2015 at 3:09 pm

“What is it that Congress has done, exactly, that has undermined the president?”

They have undermined the United States, by saying that any agreement that the United States enters into with any foreign power is not worth the paper it’s printed on. They said that the United States can’t be trusted to keep its word. They have undermined over 200 years of diplomacy. To them, the United States is a rogue nation that flouts international law.

          • trees March 13th, 2015 at 7:14 pm

No, that’s not what they said. What they said was, that they, the Congress of the United States, had the final voice in the matter, and that they wanted Iran to understand how our system of government worked. That the President of the United States lacked the authority, and the ability, to work unilaterally, as a force of one, in passing a binding treaty. What they made sure the Iranians understood is that we have a democratic system of government, consisting of co-equal branches, and that there are numerous parties here, on our part, that will need to weigh in and consider, debate, and either accept or disapprove of any agreement that this president makes.

Your prez is the one trying to do an end around our system

        • OldLefty March 13th, 2015 at 7:55 pm

          Now we have two choices.

          1) We can end Iranian ambition to acquire nuclear weapons.
          2) We can allow Iranian nuclear ambition, and concede the fact that Iran will become a nuclear superpower.

          _______

They have made more strides towards “becoming a nuclear superpower” under sanctions, in the last administration, showing that they were clearly on the wrong tract.

Diplomacy could have worked, but diplomacy with Iran will not work now, because Iran does not fear military reprisal from us.

          _______

          Diplomacy may not work because;

          1) Republicans have told the Iranians that they can not trust America, and that they hate their president more than Iran’s nuclear capability, and that politics do NOT stop at the water’s edge.

          2) Bush already showed Iran that they are in more danger of our military attacking if they are unarmed.

It is not surprising, but sad that GOPers want to (inadvertently?) discredited the Iranian politicians who seek cooperation with the U.S. and empowered the guy who called negotiations with
          the Americans “useless.”

Republicans are once again too weak to step outside the box and think critically.

          Obama weak???

          Please.

          Oh well you guys said the same thing about Eisenhower Eisenhower did not help the French at Dien Bien Phu or the Hungarians.;
          A Democratic Advisory Council committee
headed by Acheson called Eisenhower’s foreign policy ‘weak,
vacillating, and tardy.’ But Eisenhower kept his powder dry, confident that force was not the only way to show strength. ‘I’ll tell you what leadership is,’ he told his speechwriter. ‘It’s persuasion — and conciliation — and education — and patience. It’s long, slow, tough work. That’s the only
kind of leadership I know — or believe in — or will practice.”

Columnists Joseph and Stewart Alsop were warning that weak and irresolute U.S. leaders would open the door for our adversaries — in Europe, China, Korea and Vietnam.

“The future of Asia may well be at stake”

[his policies] “could fatally weaken the Western alliance.”

He is “misinformed” or “consciously misleading the nation” about the “flaccid” U.S. shortfall

His generals had been “hoodwinked by the bureaucracy.”

They said it when Truman fired Douglas MacArthur rather
than expand the Korean War into China.

They said it when JFK refused a pre-emptive strike against Soviet missiles in Cuba.

When Reagan cut and ran in Beirut.

And when George H.W. Bush refused to go into to Baghdad.

Wrong every time, and these guys know less about Iran than than they knew about Iraq.

      • fahvel March 13th, 2015 at 4:40 am

why do you continue to talk to trees? Maybe in a redwood forest but when this tree makes noise, it doesn’t merit having its trunk peed on.

      • Warman1138 March 13th, 2015 at 6:15 am

The same questions were asked at the beginning of the recent conflict. The askers were mocked and castigated and the questions ignored and we’re still paying in blood, treasure and respect. Your questions are the prerequisite for any conflict…….applause and kudos.

  11. OldLefty March 12th, 2015 at 6:48 pm

    He sure got that right.

over 25 years of Netanyahu warnings and still no nukes. I think this country has KJU beat by now. Did anyone mention we have the ability to shoot down any missiles fired from this country yet or are we still living in the 80s ?

  15. William March 13th, 2015 at 2:09 am

Well at least it proves we have 47 traitors. There are at least two representatives tat are in reserve components and can be tried under the UCMJ

      • William March 13th, 2015 at 11:03 am

Yeah Pretty familiar with that section. Us veterans are. You let me know when Hillary is bought up on charges won’t you cupcake.

Not if you believe the poster/graphic are you ‘familiar’ w/it.
And why bring up hillary, the topic is ernst and violating mil regs(which you completely avoided addressing), is that all you can do to defend the silliness of the post, eh peaches?

          • William March 13th, 2015 at 12:13 pm

When you undermine the efforts of the commander in chief, by communicating with a hostile nation and undermine foreign policy you violate the UCMJ, it’s that simple. Had you ever served you might understand that Mr. super duper “Spirit of *gasp* Murica.
I bring it up because right wing wackos seem to be more concerned with Hillary and her e-mail than a violation of the Logan act.
            cupcake.

          • Spirit of America March 13th, 2015 at 12:22 pm

1st, you have no idea, none, if I was or even if I still am in the military, none. As I have no idea if you ever were.

2nd, if it was that simple, then it would be done. Like I said before, let me know when charges are brought, let alone a guilty verdict. There is no violation of either code. Read the letter carefully.

No, you brought up hillary to try to swerve the conversation away from the topic and the incorrectness of the post peaches, I’ve seen you do it before.

          • William March 13th, 2015 at 12:36 pm

1st, you have no idea, none, if I was or even if I still am in the military

“Prima fascia evidence if I ever saw it.”
Then you never saw it, and you were the one to place the if there, not me.

But, since you brought in the ‘until proven otherwise’ aspect, and your conduct is anything but military, until you show a non-redacted dd-214, I’m going to go with you were never in the military(least not past bootcamp).

And instead of making up out of whole cloth something about me, why not just stick to the topic, have a civil discussion and drop the attempted insults?
            Actually, don’t answer that, I already know…

          • William March 14th, 2015 at 9:06 am

Please message my facebook. I’ll be happy to send you DD214 with retired photo military ID card. You’ll forgive me if I block out my social security number . Then you can send me yours. If I don’t receive yours which I know I won’t because you are NOT a veteran, you’ll understand if I simply dismiss you as another flag waving, yellow ribbon bumper sticker idiot who needs to put words like “patriot, America, in his handle to compensate for lost opportunities of “glory”
            Hows that
            fair enough?

            1. We get Alan to agree to accept our copies and then post in off-topic if neither, one or both served. He also must agree to never show or divulge the info(besides the whether served or not) to any other individuals, not even us, ever.
(I simply don’t trust you, especially since you can’t even spell America properly to show a little respect).

            2. If he says in the post I served, you have to make a formal apology in off-topic to me and then, for your next 20 posts(regardless of topic), add to your posts at the bottom(like a signature):

With wanton disregard of not having any facts, I deliberately and willfully made up details about SoA and even when brought to my attention of doing so, I kept kept lying about SoA.

            Deal?

Stop being a woos. Fire that e mail over to my facebook. Other than ssns (which you can blot out), you should have nothing to hide. I’m ready, lets do this. I’m just dying to bask in your lengthy and no doubt heroic military career Mr. Spirit of ‘Murica

Afraid you’ll have to apologize peaches? Aren’t honorable enough to accept a deal where ALL you’d have to do is apologize?

Quit being a yellow belly, accept the terms billy.

Oh for crying out loud what a coward you are.
I’m posting my last DD214 on my facebook page now. Unlike you, I’m not ashamed of it. It’s not particularly clear. It’s the final one (I have 5 as I reenlisted multiple times). Would be happy to post the rest if you’d like.
            Hows that cupcake?
I’ll post whatever proof you want in public where everyone can see it. You can remain the nameless, faceless, invisible troll with the hidden identity who comes into a liberal website and cries about *snicker* Hillary Clintons lack of “transparency”.
You truly are the “Spirit”. Completely invisible.

unfortunately it’s not just the “evil” Iranian who sees the usa in a wobbly spiral. He’s easy but when the majority of political western leaders and political commentators feel the same way, the usa should somehow try to over rule the ahole right and work on the county’s needs instead. Needs a lot recently – like compassion etc.

So…are Republicans running on a fiscally conservative warmongering platform again?
How do conservative heads not implode?
