us-people-robertdurst[su_r_sky_ad]Real estate heir Robert Durst, the subject of HBO’s documentary miniseries The Jinx, has been arrested in New Orleans less than a day before the cable giant broadcasts the concluding episode tonight:

… on an extradition warrant out of Los Angeles tied to the death of his friend, Susan Berman.

Police arrested the cross-dressing multimillionaire around 11 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel in New Orleans on a first degree warrant related to a homicide investigation, KTRK Houston reported.

The 71-year-old millionaire made headlines in 2003 when he was acquitted in the murder of his neighbor, despite admitting that he dismembered the man.

The eccentric real estate heir has been back in the limelight as the subject of The Jinx, a six-part HBO documentary that investigates that murder, in addition to the disappearance of his wife, Kathie Durst, and the murder of Susan Berman, a friend and author killed in Los Angeles in 2000.

Berman, a childhood friend of Durst’s, had long been one of his firmest defenders. She acted as his informal spokeswoman after Kathie’s sudden disappearance on Jan. 31, 1982.

Berman, who father was a mobster who helped create Las Vegas, was fatally shot in the back of the head on Christmas Eve. 2000. She was killed days after Westchester County authorities announced they planned to speak with her regarding Kathie.

Robert Durst is, as far as we know, not related to our resident podcaster Will Durst, whose words of wisdom can be found here.

It’s a SYG state and they used that to defend him. I don’t get it either.

he killed him in his own home. his parts washed up in galveston. this dead man was unable to defend himself by discrediting durst lies. not only that, he was on the run for the murder of his wife by dressing like a woman at the time. i don’t think the jury got to hear that though.

          • Anomaly 100 March 15th, 2015 at 3:23 pm

And then there’s that other murder.

          • whatthe46 March 15th, 2015 at 3:43 pm

actually you’re right. he was on the run for the murder of his female friend not his wife. makes you wonder how many more dead people he’s responsible for.

          • Anomaly 100 March 15th, 2015 at 3:59 pm

Was he ever investigated over his wife’s death?

          • whatthe46 March 15th, 2015 at 4:48 pm

yes. death/disapparence. the woman he’s now being arrested for was his biggest supporter and friend who was on his side about the wife’s death/disapparence.

    Allegedly.

I find it a bit peculiar that somebody would dismember a neighbor and claim self defense.
