26BE837D00000578-0-image-a-20_1426618480113[su_r_sky_ad]… that the congressman from Illinois’ 18th District who announced his resignation yesterday is reportedly in more hot water than previously revealed:

Federal agents and U.S. prosecutors have begun serving subpoenas in a criminal investigation of outgoing Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) the I-Team has learned. The FBI is delivering subpoenas for testimony in both Illinois and in Washington, according to sources familiar with the newly organized investigation.

“He could be looking at no fewer than five federal offenses,” said former federal prosecutor Gil Soffer, now a legal consultant to ABC7 News.

Congressman Schock, 33, an up and coming star in the Republican party, has fallen from the political cosmos in a matter of weeks. …

As quickly as the congressional investigation faded with Schock’s resignation, federal law enforcement sources have said that a grand jury was being empaneled to consider possible criminal evidence against the downstate politician. The grand jury, seated in Springfield, is expected to hear from Schock’s congressional and campaign staffers as well as donors – many of whom are said to be receiving subpoenas to appear in April.

The photogenic congressman, who has posed in magazines showing off his six-pack abs-“could be looking at embezzlement of federal funds,” said Soffer, who prosecuted federal corruption cases in Chicago.

The donors will get their pound of flesh just to remind everyone who is really running the show.

They don’t make those donations so this stud pupet can run around looking at himself in the mirror.

indeed. Which was why I was fascinated when Schock said he was resigning so his staffers wouldn’t be put through the wringer of subpoenas and testimony. How could he not know that only the name on the wringer would change? Is he really that ignorant? Does he live in such a “special” bubble that he actually thought that resigning would put all this behind him?

Yes! Unless he planned on making a full signed confession, I don’t know how it could be avoided.

Robert Heinlein had a view of politicians (which he might have cribbed from someone else) that goes like: An honest politician is one who, once bought, stays bought. There are way way way too many who can’t even come up to that lamentable standard.
