Mike Huckabee says no one should join the military until the current commander-in-chief is gone. He spoke with Iowa talk show host Jan Michelson.

This administration has had an open hostility toward the Christian faith,” he said. “And I know that sounds like a bold statement, Jan, but when you have a president whose administration orders its chaplains to put its Bibles away, not to pray in Jesus name, not to counsel people on the issues of sexual morality; when you have this attitude that is more about promoting gay marriage and gay rights in the military than it is about being able to protect religious liberty for those people of faith, it’s going to be hard to find people that are truly devoted people of faith and Christian believers and Orthodox Jews and others.”

“Why would they want to be in a military that would be openly hostile and not just simply bring some scorn to their faith, but would punish them for it?” he asked.

This led Mickelson to ask Huckabee what he would tell parents whose children are considering joining the armed forces.

“There’s nothing more honorable than serving one’s country and there’s no greater heroes to our country than our military,” he responded, “but I might suggest to parents, I’d wait a couple of years until we get a new commander-in-chief that will once again believe ‘one nation under god’ and believe that people of faith should be a vital part of the process of not only governing this country, but defending this country.”

That’s what they said during Bush’s term as well.

    Remember “stop loss”?

  2. fancypants April 17th, 2015 at 6:49 pm

I guess its not an ISIL war after all
    huckleberry said so…

  3. Larry Schmitt April 17th, 2015 at 6:51 pm

The executive branch has no authority to tell military chaplains what to do. He’s making sh*t up again, and he’s getting away with it, like the gop always does. And by the way, Huckleberry probably isn’t even aware that there are Jewish and Muslim chaplains as well as christian, and he would probably get rid of them if he could.

Not kissing The Huckster’s fat ass is not the same as disrespecting Christianity.

On my local base there is mass service listed with times, why would that be true if what huckster says is true?

Like so many of his fellow drunken adulterous republiCON white male kristians, he

      LIES!

    • William April 18th, 2015 at 9:28 am

Because Huckabee simply has no clue as to what goes on in the military. His resume like that of most flag waving, Bible thumping, right wing wackos is (as usual) devoid of military service.

      or in his own words.

“My flat feet ended what I’m sure would have been a heralded military career in the post-Vietnam 1970s.”

      • Suzanne McFly April 18th, 2015 at 10:57 am

How nice to talk about how great you could have been without even having the slightest clue of what your talking about, huckster is such a tool and not the useful kind.

Huckabee’s ginormous belly ensures he can’t even see his feet, or win a race against Christie.

Huckabee’s right about one thing. If you’re a person with a penchant for killing, now’s not the time to joint the military. With two wars winding down and the President working to keep peace in the middle east, I would imagine there’s not much action in the armed forces. Better to wait until a republican is in office, where you’re sure to have your pick of wars the GOP is sure to start, in which you prefer to fight.

      i thought the same thing.

War is NEVER about fighting….its always about making rank

  7. Maxx44 April 18th, 2015 at 12:00 am

He says Obama is anti-military, but advising people not to serve their country is anti-American.

Jesus, himself, showed open hostility to today’s White evangelical RepubliCON kristians.

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.

I will use this in the future – thanks Gramps.

Huckabee is absolutely the last person I would ask about parenting skills or fatherly advise.

David’s slitting a dog throat, hanging it and stoning to death make the Seamus on the roof incident look tame in comparison.

This is total crap on Huckabee’s part. What he is saying about Obama is crap. His theocratic, primitave take on (fake) “Christianity” is crap. I was in the Army, and my dad’s master’s is from CDSP. Neither of us give Huckabee’s crap any validity.
And he is exploiting religion for votes. Fundamentalist piece of crap, and a phony Christian at that. Bears false witness i.e. fucking liar. Antichrist.

  11. Budda April 18th, 2015 at 10:03 am

It is not a Christian army you zealot! By the way, the military doesn’t want homophobes and other bigots.

  12. uzza April 18th, 2015 at 11:19 am

    First Draft

No one should join the US military because of Abu Ghrab, Massour Square, torture, black sites, invasions, drone assassinations, endemic rape, killing US citizens, supporting brutal dictatorships, they won’t let us proselytize.

I am a Disabled Veteran who served in two branches. I tell young people to look for other options because if you get hurt bad enough this nation will take little to no care of you. Since Reagan the idea of Republicans is it costs too much and we are bums living off the government. Sadly too many Democrats cave and the veteran loses. The hell with religion because many lose it when bullets fly any way.

This message is provided by a top representative of the political party that sent reservists into a war zone against a nation which posed no direct threat to our nation’s security and forced them to serve multiple tours of duty … and then attempted to block increased federal funding for returning vets who wished to obtain career skills and mental health support.

  16. rg9rts April 18th, 2015 at 3:30 pm

Here we go again …another hero that only wants to send others to war while he stays safe at home… He ran his 2S for all it was worth…just like mittwitt

  17. liberalMD April 18th, 2015 at 6:22 pm

Why should we elect someone as President of the United States who has no idea of the meaning of one of the basic tenets upon which this nation was founded: the separation of Church and State?

  18. OldLefty April 18th, 2015 at 7:13 pm

The conventional wisdom was that at least Huckabee was “a nice guy”.

    I don’t think that’s true.

Between parroting the ugly gossip meant to appeal to a niche audience, it all about the grift.

Between selling mailing lists, creating jobs for and padding salaries for family members in PACs and “reverse diabetes” with cinnamon and chromium picolinate. Huckabee’s also lent his name, face, and reputation to people claiming to have “natural” methods to reverse the progression of Alzheimer’s disease, financial firms that perpetrate blatant fraud upon their customers, and a group that claims to have found the cure for cancer in the Book of Matthew.

    What a racket.

  19. StoneyCurtisll April 18th, 2015 at 9:41 pm

Huckabee managed to avoid the draft, and never bothered to enlist/serve his country..
I guess he wants others to follow in his steps, (until Obama is gone) and then he expects young people to fulfill the obligation that he himself refused to do…
    F-Huckabee~!
