Nothing like a handy gun to settle disputes.

A 22-year-old man died late Thursday evening in Harris County, Texas, after an altercation between his teenage girlfriend and her parents got out of control…

According to reports from local police, the 19-year-old told her parents she was running away with her boyfriend and proceeded to go outside to his car parked nearby. Believing that the man was armed, the girl’s father grabbed a gun and followed the pair outside, along with the girl’s mother.

It remains unclear what caused the argument, but following a short exchange, the father fired two shots, one of which struck the young man in the chest. The other hit the mother on the hand.

Although the man was rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead. The mother was treated for minor injuries, while the father and daughter were unharmed in the incident.

        • rg9rts April 18th, 2015 at 5:57 pm

The truth is that she lied from day one and was shocked when I didn’t kick her out when I found out…how do you deny that your children are your children??? It gets worse.. but that is the past and I can’t waste time on her…she will get hers soon enough

    No arrest? Oh, right, Texas.

    • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 5:38 pm

First we have to make sure there was a crime committed here…white father, Mexican victim, aw shucks, it already sounds accidental…why waste money on an investigation.

  4. rg9rts April 18th, 2015 at 3:48 pm

Quick thinking …after blowing the kid away …he thinks that he was armed… right!

    • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 5:39 pm

Other news stories have the kid armed and firing first..kinda looks like just another “love gone wrong in Texas” on a Saturday night.

      • rg9rts April 18th, 2015 at 5:58 pm

        Texas nuff said…right??

      • allison1050 April 18th, 2015 at 6:12 pm

Wouldn’t there have been a total of 3 shots fired then?

        • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 7:08 pm

Could of been more….Just saying a local news station reported the kid fired the first shot and the father fired back…probably why no charges were filed and they sent it to the GJ.

          • tracey marie April 18th, 2015 at 8:18 pm

Charges will be fired, the “father” intereferred with 2 adults making a decision and killed a kid becaue he did not like him

          • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 9:08 pm

Hopefully you’re right, however, this is Texas we’re talking about and anything can happen if it is found that the kid shot first…I could see this thing going down to something like unlawful brandishing of a weapon or even no charges if that’s true.

          • tracey marie April 18th, 2015 at 9:12 pm

Not really, there is a history of the parents interferring in the relationship between 2 consenting adults

          • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 9:21 pm

There’s a history of every parent I know interfering in the relationship their 19 year old daughter is having, (including me) you’re gonna have to do better than that if this kid pulled a gun first

          • tracey marie April 18th, 2015 at 9:27 pm

he did not, the guns were in the car

          • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 9:48 pm

Local news has a witnesses claiming the kid had a gun and fired at the father from the car hitting the mother in the hand, dad returned fire and killed the kid…from that description (if true) it sounds like self defense.

Like you, I can only go on the initial reports. I’m sticking to my original comment about this being a pretty much normal night anywhere in Texas.

            http://www.khou.com/story/news/local/2015/04/17/constables-dad-fatally-shot-daughters-boyfriend-during-altercation/25923323/

          • tracey marie April 18th, 2015 at 9:51 pm

The cops in texas said the guns were in the car, true we are both fighting intial reports

          • whatthe46 April 18th, 2015 at 9:56 pm

if, again, this father ran out of the house with a gun, the kid had every right to shoot first. the kid was in his car ready to leave, the father should have stayed in the house. now he’s killed someone and for what? because his daughter wanted to be with him. shout if you want, but don’t shoot. besides, doesn’t this kid have a right to self defense as well.

          • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 10:06 pm

If it happened like you say it did there might any number of changes to either of our positions…right now the meme from the cops is this kid fired at dad and hit mom in the hand, dad fired one back and hit em in the chest…We’ll see how the story develops but if it stays on track I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy walks.

          • whatthe46 April 18th, 2015 at 10:11 pm

i wouldn’t have a problem with the father getting off if he didn’t run out of the house with a gun. but, we can’t blame the kid if he fired first. they are not bound by the rules of the cops (although the cops never play by the rules) to wait until fired upon, i’m not gonna wait if someone has a gun and is running towards me shoots first. besides, isn’t this what texas wanted? everyone to be armed? so by that rule, both would be in the right and he shouldn’t be charged. i’m gagging now. excuse me.

          • Mike April 18th, 2015 at 10:28 pm

I’m starting to see things from your POV “…both would be in the right …”
            Now I’m gagging.

          • whatthe46 April 18th, 2015 at 10:33 pm

laughing when i don’t want to.

          • whatthe46 April 18th, 2015 at 9:53 pm

well if the father came running out of the house with gun and the kid believed his life was in danger, as it would appear to me, he had every right to shoot.

      • tracey marie April 18th, 2015 at 8:17 pm

not in Texas, it says there was 2 firearms in the car.

  5. whatthe46 April 18th, 2015 at 5:51 pm

she’s 19, i think she has a right to make her own choice. if the parents think its a mistake, let her figure it out.

  6. allison1050 April 18th, 2015 at 6:06 pm

How the hell does he shoot a young man in the chest and his wife in her hand? Did her hand jump in front of the gun?

    • whatthe46 April 18th, 2015 at 6:17 pm

i thought about that. but, since you said it, the only thing that makes sense is that she threw her hand out (being ahead of him) to suggest he NOT shoot he did anyway, going through her hand first. jmo. but, i’ve been wrong many of times.

      • allison1050 April 18th, 2015 at 6:28 pm

        I can accept that scenario.

  7. tracey marie April 18th, 2015 at 8:16 pm

    Murder, plain and simple.

  8. CHOCOL8MILK April 18th, 2015 at 10:25 pm

Yup, guns they make us safe!

  9. mfr4 April 19th, 2015 at 5:52 pm

Clearly an accidental shooting, no further action needed.

  10. AmusedAmused April 20th, 2015 at 10:11 pm

I read the comments to this story on chron.com, and all I can say is, it’s probaby time for saner states to start issuing travel warnings about Texas. Most local residents commenting on the story seem to think the father was justified in killing the boyfriend. They feel that since the daughter was still living at home, her father was within his rights to impose dating rules, and to enforce them by any means necessary, up to and including deadly force. I also get the feeling that those people interpret the use of a gun in and of itself as a sign of virtue; that because the boyfriend only carried BB guns, he deserved to die.

I am tempted to ask these people if they can point to any annoyance, any perceived wrong that they believe would NOT be a good enough reason to kill someone, but why get into that morass if I already know the answer. The answer is “none”. No reason is too petty. As long as the instrument is a gun, you can literally be killed over anything in that part of the country, and the loons that live there are doing their very damndest to ensure that their legal system, whether de jure or de facto, reflects those values. Are you still shocked Robert Durst was acquitted?

    • whatthe46 April 20th, 2015 at 10:26 pm

“…her father was within his rights to impose dating rules, and to enforce them by any means necessary, up to and including deadly force.” that’s sharia law right there. but, don’t tell them that their heads would explode.
