That’s assuming the ruling legalized gay marriage. The two presidential candidates have signed a pledge put out by the right-wing Liberty Counsel, siding with those who believe gay marriage is an attack of the devil.

On the matter of marriage, we stand in solidarity. We affirm that marriage and family have been inscribed by the Divine Architect into the order of Creation. Marriage is ontologically between one man and one woman, ordered toward the union of the spouses, open to children and formative of family. Family is the first vital cell of society, the first government, and the first mediating institution of our social order. The future of a free and healthy society passes through marriage and the family…

As citizens united together, we will not stand by while the destruction of the institution of marriage unfolds in this nation we love. The effort to redefine marriage threatens the essential foundation of the family…

We will view any decision by the Supreme Court or any court the same way history views the Dred Scott and Buck v. Bell decisions. Our highest respect for the rule of law requires that we not respect an unjust law that directly conflicts with higher law. A decision purporting to redefine marriage flies in the face of the Constitution and is contrary to the natural created order. As people of faith we pledge obedience to our Creator when the State directly conflicts with higher law. We respectfully warn the Supreme Court not to cross this line.

We stand united together in defense of marriage. Make no mistake about our resolve. While there are many things we can endure, redefining marriage is so fundamental to the natural order and the common good that this is the line we must draw and one we cannot and will not cross.

YESTERDAY: “The President refuses to act according to the law! He’s a tyrant! He doesn’t care about the rules!”
TODAY: “I’m not gonna follow this law, because reasons, ‘n sh!t!”
TOMORROW: “We’re a nation of LAWS! Hillary broke laws!! Laws am sacred!!!”

    • whatthe46 April 24th, 2015 at 5:33 pm

lol hit the nail on the head!

      • Hirightnow April 24th, 2015 at 5:48 pm

        Easy target.

  2. Larry Schmitt April 24th, 2015 at 5:31 pm

But neither one of them holds a position where their defiance of the law has any effect. They are certainly not going to be president, so what does this statement of theirs mean? Absolutely nothing, same as most of what they say. And this “divine architect” crap has nothing to do with the United States. Marriage is a legal state, whatever else you make of it is up to you. Even if you have a religious ceremony, the minister still has to sign a legal marriage certificate. Even people who don’t officially get married are eventually considered to be so. It’s called common law. So where’s your “divine architect” then?

    • granpa.usthai April 24th, 2015 at 6:00 pm

without ‘marriage’ couples would have to pay the same tax rate as singles.
then there would be no reason for people to get ‘married’ –

unless they happened to love each other.

or at least said they loved each other. I here by declare the Huckster and Rickie unmarried –

      ’cause I want to!

      • Larry Schmitt April 24th, 2015 at 6:04 pm

I got a better idea. Let’s marry them to each other. If they say they can tell people who they can’t marry, I say we can tell them who they have to marry.

  3. granpa.usthai April 24th, 2015 at 5:52 pm

so, there’ll be a revised oath of office before they’d become POTUS?

I, for one, could accept POTUS Obama being POTUS4LIFE under those conditions.

best to have a POTUS that will stand up for EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL Americans than a religious one that plans on going back to the Inquisition.

  4. Roctuna April 24th, 2015 at 5:55 pm

Not one of these fundie scofflaws has put forward the words from their sacred book that demonstrate the sacred origin they believe in. Their ontological interpretation is based on inferences and the traditions of western society. In other words, it’s as phony as they are.

Here’s a neat article, with at least one link to a like article.
(I hated the “magazine as a child, being an avid follower of Gaines{Peace be upon him}, but the site has its moments….
Comedy and truth seem to have an affinity.

  5. Mainah April 24th, 2015 at 6:18 pm

So, I just read the link “The Attack on Marriage is an Attack on Marriage” from the embedded link and literally … holy crap. “Sexual Differentiation is a Gift” section … is just insanely hypocritical and well … not great if your a hermaphrodite. Wow. I could rant on … but just that one section really made me laugh and cringe. I am a woman of faith and I have no problem with a homosexual couple getting married. Their marriage does not effect my relationship with God. Sad, sad people. Lost people. That this is what they got out of the gospels. That this is what they took away from the sacrifice of a man who said to love everyone, take care of the sick and poor, forgive as you wish to be forgiven …. and I could go on. Live your own life. Be loving and kind.

As for Santorum and Huckabee signing this bizarre pledge, it’s their out. They know they don’t stand a snow balls chance in hell (pun really intended because it’s really funny) in winning any respectable spot … so, why not have something you can use for gifting later, is my thinking.

    • Larry Schmitt April 24th, 2015 at 6:25 pm

These hypocrites spend entirely too much time pretending they know who’s going to hell and why. As you said, the person they supposedly follow said to worry about the beam in your own eye, and not the mote in your neighbor’s.

      • Mainah April 24th, 2015 at 6:36 pm

Indeed. They do have a plank in their eye. I really hate cherry picking. It drives me crazy, I’m a recovering Catholic, Irish Catholic. What kills me is, if a gay person didn’t tell them they were gay and went to church, sat beside them every Sunday … they would say “What a good Christian they are.” I find that contemptible. My God is loving.

        • Larry Schmitt April 24th, 2015 at 6:38 pm

So is theirs, but only of the people they approve of.

          • Mainah April 24th, 2015 at 6:50 pm

            I know, right?

  6. Obewon April 24th, 2015 at 7:51 pm

Are Santorum and Huckabee announcing as lovers? Both of them and all GOP in 2016~ spend most of their time talking about illegalizing their samesex Barry Manilow fantasies. Regardless of their conservative majority SCOTUS upholding equal marriage via the 10th & 14th amendments.

    • OldLefty April 24th, 2015 at 7:54 pm

      You beat me to it.

      • Obewon April 24th, 2015 at 7:57 pm

I want to see the Santorum-Huckabee rodeo wedding!

        • Mainah April 24th, 2015 at 8:04 pm

Somewhere in between the “grits and country” in Bubbaland. LOL

    • Larry Schmitt April 24th, 2015 at 7:55 pm

Maybe they’re so ashamed of impulses they can’t control, they want to make their own lifestyle illegal.

  7. OldLefty April 24th, 2015 at 7:53 pm

Does that mean we won’t get to see the Huckabee-Santorum wedding after all? I guess I have to take my dress back 🙁

    • Mainah April 24th, 2015 at 8:03 pm

Graham must be crushed. No Maid of Honor for him. LOL

  8. fancypants April 24th, 2015 at 8:37 pm

so huckleberry and santorum are teaming up to prove they cant get elected in 2016
2 heads are better then one !

    • whatthe46 April 24th, 2015 at 9:08 pm

      nice

  9. AnthonyLook April 25th, 2015 at 3:07 am

I didn’t even know they were in love. They don’t have to obey the SCOTUS decision on gay marriage; they can continue their unmarried private relationship without marriage. No one is forcing them.

  10. rg9rts April 25th, 2015 at 5:20 am

They don’t even know what the decision is and they are against it…and theses two imbeciles want to be POTUS…..LOL

  11. fredoandme April 25th, 2015 at 7:34 am

since they currently hold no office and they most certainly will not hold any office ever again, I say to each of them, “shut the frick up.”

  12. labman57 April 25th, 2015 at 8:44 am

This is the same nonsensical reasoning that tea party pundits use regarding the outcome of federal and state elections:

An election outcome is only valid when THEIR candidate is voted into office, and court decisions are only valid when THEIR argument is upheld.

  13. Chris April 25th, 2015 at 8:49 am

I don’t think the civilized portion of America gives a fig what Santorum and Huckabee think. They can keep waving their canes at the TV for all I care.

  14. William April 25th, 2015 at 9:06 am

Geeeez…Would you two just get a room already.

  15. Laura Freedlund April 25th, 2015 at 11:56 am

“Family is the first vital cell of society, the first government, and the first mediating institution of our social order.”

BUT GOVERNMENT IS BAAADDD! It’s the source of all evil! That’s what I keep hearing from these assholes, anyway. If they really believe that, then they should be racing to abolish marriage of any kind. They are so double-minded! Who appointed these dickheads judges of everyone else, anyway? GO AWAY!

  16. Carla Akins April 25th, 2015 at 6:09 pm

So they refuse to follow the law of the highest court in the land, and they want to be President? Well, that’s something.

  17. Steph April 25th, 2015 at 6:29 pm

Problem with these “purpose of marriage is family” arguments– they don’t hold up. What about a man & a woman who are older, or infertile, or just don’t wish to procreate? And who is asking them to obey the ruling? Republicans claim to be all about “business” but they’re lousy at minding their own.

  18. Snick1946 April 26th, 2015 at 4:38 pm

I still have people in my life who could be called religious extremists, mostly family. Some of what I am hearing is chilling. These people feel like they are being backed into a wall. I would not be surprised to see bloodshed someplace before this quiets down, assuming the SCOTUS rules in favor. Nothing organized, more like wackos killing gay people, shootings at places where gay people congregate, that sort of thing.

  19. bpollen April 26th, 2015 at 4:50 pm

“If I’m the President, f*ck the law!”

And that is one of the MANY reasons he’s not gonna live at 1600.

  20. donco6 April 26th, 2015 at 5:25 pm

So what are they going to do, exactly? Sit in their room and pout?

  21. Aunt Pee April 26th, 2015 at 6:15 pm

So somebody explain this. Are they refusing to marry each other?

  22. JimmyPete April 26th, 2015 at 7:46 pm

Holy Poop Batman they are defying the law and not marrying each other, too bad for their current spouses.

  23. Intolerantcentrist April 26th, 2015 at 8:27 pm

Neither one of them will be President so it’s unlikely their argument will be tested. Too bad too. Impeachment would have been fun.

  24. Shohanna April 27th, 2015 at 6:38 am

So make sure to enforce said law when they disobey it. 😀
