Free food for the National Guard, but what about starving members of the Baltimore community?

People on Twitter and Facebook lashed out against Whole Foods and called the move tone deaf to the children in Baltimore public schools who were going without free lunch while schools were closed Tuesday over safety concerns.

According to the Baltimore City Public School District’s website, 84% of its students receive free or reduced-price lunches.

One woman tweeted, “As Baltimore’s poorest kids are left hungry due to school closure (no school lunch), @WholeFoods feed the oppressor.”

66 responses to Whole Foods Feeds National Guard While Children Miss Lunches

  1. Red Eye Robot April 29th, 2015 at 10:00 pm

How many of those kids would have been in school had the fine citizens of Baltimore not looted and burned their own city? How is the national guard the oppressor? How many kids would miss future school lunches if “The Oppressor” had not restored order? How is Whole Foods the Villain for giving a token of thanks to the “Oppressor” who brought peace back to Baltimore’s streets?

The twitter outrage is proof that Liberalism has created a monster that sees the generosity of a private business as something they are entitled to or at the very least entitled to dictate who the recipient of that generosity is. The persons trying to shame Whole Foods are no different than the people stealing from CVS before they burned it

    • whatthe46 April 29th, 2015 at 10:43 pm

“How many of those kids would have been in school had the fine citizens of Baltimore not looted and burned their own city?” they all would have been in school if a fk’n cop wouldn’t have, yet again, kill another unarmed black male.

      • Red Eye Robot May 1st, 2015 at 12:19 am

Nobody canceled school because cops killed a drug dealer. they canceled school because of a corrupt culture fueled by liberalism burned and looted.

    • fancypants April 29th, 2015 at 10:59 pm

as if our military doesn’t get enough benies already ?
now they get to rub it into childrens faces
      Take a bow redeye

      • Red Eye Robot May 1st, 2015 at 12:16 am

Who are you to decide who Whole foods gives sandwiches to? These aren’t regular soldiers, they are national guard, they were called away from their jobs and families to restore the peace. It’s funny how none of you have expressed this much ire for the actual people who created this problem.

    • tracey marie April 29th, 2015 at 11:58 pm

why did the cops kill a man for being black?

      • whatthe46 April 30th, 2015 at 12:09 am

        bet he can’t answer that.

        • allison1050 April 30th, 2015 at 7:17 am

          That’s a given.

      • Red Eye Robot May 1st, 2015 at 12:10 am

Did they close down the school because the cops killed a drug dealer or did they close the schools because thousands of the fine upstanding citizens of Baltimore burned and looted businesses burned cars. attacked police and firefighters?

    • Carla Akins April 30th, 2015 at 12:00 pm

Ten thousand people peacefully protested for days, a few hundred criminals looted.

      • Red Eye Robot April 30th, 2015 at 11:44 pm

Funny how these “Peaceful Protests” seem to generate riots so often.

        • Carla Akins May 1st, 2015 at 4:47 am

If you change the channel, you can see footage of the police taunting the protesters. But I’m certain that years, decades really of abusive behavior at the of law enforcement has nothing at to do with these protests.

Truly, how long do you expect people to tolerate abuse before they rise up? As Ameican’s, we cheer the underdog – in the movies we the hero is always the counter culture little guy that stands up to authority and leads his minority into the light – exposing the abuse, the cover-up.

If you cannot understand, admit that there is a problem in the country and we now have video evidence of this systemic abuse of law enforcement – and that it needs to change, then you too are part of the problem.

    • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 4:04 pm

Ahhh…. so the whole COMMUNITY is guilty. Everybody should suffer because of the actions of a few. Even if NOBODY in your family participated, your children should suffer because of it. And the National Guard didn’t restore order. They provided a show of force. Standing around armed doesn’t actually restore anything, let alone order. I would give one whole hell of a lot more credit to Elijah Cummings and the pastors who stood between the protesters and police.

      • Red Eye Robot April 30th, 2015 at 11:43 pm

First of all, As Hillary told us “It takes a village to raise a child” so YES the whole community is responsible for the riots.

        • bpollen May 1st, 2015 at 2:55 am

So, ammosexual reich-winger community bears the responsibility of Shawna Forde, Jared and Amanda Miller, Eric Frein, Richard Poplawski, McVey, Joseph Martin Bailie, Peter Kevin Langan, Larry Wayne Shoemake, Eric Robert Rudolph, Bradley Playford Glover. Chevie Kehoe, James Charles Kopp, Benjamin Matthew Williams, Benjamin Nathaniel Smith, Buford Furrow, Richard Baumhammers. Steven Bixby, and on and on and on. Many of them are cop-killers. America waits for your apology.

  2. Obewon April 29th, 2015 at 10:08 pm

“@WholeFoods feed the oppressor” paid themselves a mega tax credit for disposing of old food plus catering and delivery fees! It’s the GOP. Leave no billionaire behind.

  3. whatthe46 April 29th, 2015 at 10:45 pm

its the damn police departments fault all over this country that the fk’n “national guards” are there to even begin with.

  4. allison1050 April 30th, 2015 at 7:11 am

Well, I don’t shop at Whole Foods they’re over priced and I’ve had 1 burger at Five Guys and wouldn’t dream of going back for another. But THIS is just the better side of too much! People need to rethink where they shop for groceries and where they purchase a burger that’s not good to begin with.

  5. Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 9:18 am

The troops would have been fed without Whole Foods, but the kids go hungry. And for Robot, it’s now okay to make kids suffer for something they had nothing to do with? I’m glad we know where your values line up.

    • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 2:32 pm

Where are the kid’s parents? It is the parents that are responsible for their children,
that means feeding their children, not Whole Foods.

Can’t afford kids, don’t have them.

      • tracey marie April 30th, 2015 at 2:33 pm

still pushing your teabagger agenda and lies.

      • Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 3:11 pm

You must be one of those “compassionate conservatives” I’ve heard about. There’s an oxymoron for you. You would still make the kids pay for something their parents did. And there are millions of working poor (WORKING, get it?) who depend on the meals their kids get at school. And who are you to tell someone they can’t have kids?

      • thinkingwomanmillstone April 30th, 2015 at 4:43 pm

I hope you tattoo…”don’t help me in a crisis” on your forehead so we know that if you fall down in the middle of the street, we won’t hurt your philosophy of “let them starve and die” by helping you to get up. Where is your family while you are out walking and falling down. Please don’t expect an ambulance is you have a car accident because you are the driver and should have booked one ahead of time. Please don’t accept any treatment that my contributions to the hospital or research because you are a personal responsibility person. I’ll be sure to mail you a boot strap though.

        • Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 5:19 pm

He’s obviously completely self-sufficient, so if he has a heart attack, we don’t need to bother sending the EMT’s for him, he can take care of himself. If he ever loses his job through no fault of his own and can’t pay his bills, we know he’ll never apply for SNAP, because he doesn’t need help from anyone, and anyone who does is weak.

        • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 5:35 pm

The women that yanked her son out of the wolfpack by hitting him in the head has 6 kids from different fathers. When is enough enough?

    • LexiconD1 April 30th, 2015 at 4:57 pm

Peanut butter, jelly and a loaf of bread, less than $5. If the ‘parents’ can’t afford that, then they had no business having children in the first place.

      • fahvel May 1st, 2015 at 3:59 am

        fu dumb one.

  8. illinoisboy1977 April 30th, 2015 at 1:05 pm

Since the National Guard is there to keep Whole Foods from being burned to the ground, I have no problem with them providing a token of gratitude.

  9. Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 2:22 pm

Kudos to Whole Foods for looking out for Our Troops.
That was a wonderful act of solidarity with Our National Guard.
Salute to the National Guard, on the great job they do each and every day.

    • Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 3:15 pm

The troops have the army looking out for them. This was nothing more than a public relations play and a tax write off for Whole Foods. Who’s looking out for the kids? I know, you don’t give a sh!t about the kids once they’re born.

      • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 4:26 pm

Kids are the responsibility of their parents.

        • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 4:31 pm

          Rand Paul. That is all.

        • Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 5:08 pm

More evidence that you want the children to pay for what their parents do. What happened to society’s responsibility? For your sake, I hope you never have to seek help from anyone.

        • fahvel May 1st, 2015 at 3:58 am

then yours should be in prison.

    • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 3:59 pm

You might wanna do some research. Guard troops get a per diem to cover the cost of food and sundries. Schoolchildren do not.

      • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 4:26 pm

Parents are responsible for feeding their kids.

        • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 4:30 pm

Ever heard of the “working” poor? Feeding your kids might not be so easy when you have to decide things like – shelter or food? But go ahead and post bromides that show you have no concept of the conditions endured by the poor.

          • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 4:33 pm

            Birth control.

          • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 4:38 pm

Oh, you ARE the font of wisdom. I should be able to predict what is going to happen specifically to me, some inderterminate time in the futurre, before having kids…. Why didn’t *I* think of that? Could it be because it is one of the stupidest responses I have heard in a while? If that is what is required for procreation, there will be NO next generation. Way to provide solutions, O Wise One.

          • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 4:41 pm

No education, no job, living in abject poverty, no food, everyone around is a thug, like President Obama and Mayor Rawlings said,
birth control is the only viable option.

            Birth control is the ticket.

          • bpollen May 1st, 2015 at 3:18 am

I’m a white boy, raised in the Midwest. I had my experiences with what is called these days “food insecurity” but we called “going to bed hungry. ” My mother worked 7 days a week as a waitress and whatever pick-up jobs she could find to care for her children. She got by on 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night for years on end.

On behalf of my mother, and all the hard-working mothers and fathers out there who have ever struggled to provide for their children, I want to says as clearly and succinctly as I can: UP. YOURS. You sanctimonious prig!

There are other more radical measures. Which could happen.

          • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 4:51 pm

There could be a Republican President in 2016.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone April 30th, 2015 at 5:21 pm

Only if the country wants to go down the tubes very, very quickly. The repugnants have shown their disdain for the country and its citizens for the last 6 years. We have been paying attention.

          • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 5:33 pm

It would not come as a shock, total surprise. There could be a President Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul in 2016.

          • thinkingwomanmillstone April 30th, 2015 at 5:45 pm

only if people who hate this country vote for them. None of those you mentioned are at all suitable nor competent enough to be president.
