We can always count on the National Rifle Association to incite fear after a tragedy. In the midst of the Baltimore uprising which was prompted by the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody, the NRA is touting the controversial “Stand Your Ground” self-defense laws. The NRA helped draft the nation’s first “Stand Your Ground”…

Yeah, because lots of dead bodies is better than none. NRA, an embarrassment to America.

    • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 1:15 pm

      No… you are not correct.

      • Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 1:25 pm

You’re entitled to your opinion, no matter how stupid or wrong it is.

        • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 1:37 pm

what I find to be so incredible is the lack of common sense that so many have. I have carried a gun for many years and have been in situations that i’m sure many like you would have sworn up and down we would logically pull our weapons. I don’t know what to say to people like you.

          • Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 1:39 pm

Far too many people who carry weapons don’t have your self control. That’s why there are so many shootings resulting in deaths.

          • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 1:40 pm

I think you need to revisit your stats.

          • tracey marie April 30th, 2015 at 2:41 pm

            how about good bye.

          • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 2:45 pm

Never said hello Tracey. But, if it makes you feel better, Good Bye!!!

          • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 3:47 pm

So, because YOU are responsibly (at least claim to be), how the hell does that translate to ANY other person? Are you saying that, if you haven’t managed to kill anybody recently, any idiot can safely handle a gun out in public, in bars, on the road, in stores, in churches, government buildings, parks, etc???

Tell me this: how safe would YOU feel surrounded by gun-toting people of color? Which one do you “stand your ground” against first?

          • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 3:54 pm

color has nothing to do with this. Are you telling me your prejudice?

As far as any idiot… no, if you are a criminal you cannot legally CCW

          • bpollen April 30th, 2015 at 3:57 pm

OK, not willing to answer. Says something about YOUR prejudice.

          • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 4:00 pm

I think I did answer. I live in mid America where more than you think have CCW’s. I don’t care if your Black or White. It is not legal for anyone other than law enforcement to carry in Gov buildings and that includes the Post Office.

          • StoneyCurtisll April 30th, 2015 at 8:07 pm

            You say…
“I have carried a gun for many years and have been in situations that
i’m sure many like you would have sworn up and down we would logically
            pull our weapons…
            What are you?..
            A drug dealer?..
            Pimp?..
            Bugler?..
            Car thief?..

          • ConservRedneck May 1st, 2015 at 12:26 pm

I work on Gov Computer systems and raised a Son hooked on Coke and Crack as a single parent. Yes… he survived.

  2. ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 1:14 pm

Alan… you are correct when you state that an increase in death comes into play with “Stand your Ground Laws” Either I have the right to protect what is mine or I don’t. If I were a business man there and I couldn’t even get the Police to protect my self and or property…. I would close up shop and move.

    • tracey marie April 30th, 2015 at 2:41 pm

I hear somalia is nice, they have no gun laws at all.

      • StoneyCurtisll April 30th, 2015 at 8:03 pm

        Bingo~!

  3. Larry Schmitt April 30th, 2015 at 1:26 pm

I knew there was something missing from this story about riots. It was the NRA calling for more guns. Sure, that’s the solution to violence, more things designed to kill more people in the hands of paranoiacs with itchy trigger fingers.

  4. illinoisboy1977 April 30th, 2015 at 1:49 pm

More guns DO increase deaths. The deaths of people who would otherwise have victimized the person carrying the concealed weapon. If people wouldn’t attack innocents, without provocation, CCW would be unnecessary. I’ll be damned if I’m going to be ANYONE’S victim.

    • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 1:50 pm

actually… you will find more deaths in areas where there is tighter controls on guns or no CCW

      • oldfart April 30th, 2015 at 2:46 pm

depends on where you live and depends on if you’re counting all gun deaths.
crime related and accidental. i find it odd that accidental deaths from guns are not slowing down and sadly for many many family members, with guns in the home, its always open season.

        • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 3:03 pm

There has always been accidental shootings and deaths. You just hear more of it due to that rapid news outposts on the internet. The fact remains…. shootings are higher in tighter gun control areas

  5. Bunya April 30th, 2015 at 2:05 pm

No wonder this riot was so boring. Just think! If the cops were armed, and the rioters were armed, and everybody from the press was armed, and bystanders were armed, and shop owners were armed, and school kids were armed, we’d have an old west shootout with a death toll that would rival the fatalities of the Kathmandu earthquake. Now THAT would be something to see!

    • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 2:09 pm

      now your being stupid

      • Bunya April 30th, 2015 at 2:21 pm

No, I’m not. I’m being facetious, but if everybody at the riot was armed, we’d see a hell of a lot more fatalities. Everybody shooting everybody.

        • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 2:57 pm

Its always easy to “arm chair quarterback”. In my ever so humble opinion, the problem is not the guns or lack there of. Its the fathers and the lack there of. This is not a situation that can be fixed with one idea or resolve. If you live around thugs and have to deal with them on a daily basis your thought pattern is different. You want to “fix” your problem then get out of the swamp. My daddy always taught us boys… “you are who you hang with”. This still holds true today.

As far as the guns, if everyone knew that the option was there to carry, you probably would not have seen such a destruction of person and property. I could be wrong.

          • Bunya April 30th, 2015 at 3:11 pm

The problem we have in this country is that not everybody who owns a firearm is a responsible gun owner. Too many people are being killed because children get their hands on parent’s firearm, the gun is stolen, or angry motorists with trigger-happy tendencies have the loaded firearm lying on the passenger side seat of the car.
            .
My point is, dead is dead. There are no “do overs” when deadly weapons are utilized. In Florida not too long ago, a man mistook his son for a burglar, and shot him dead.

          • ConservRedneck April 30th, 2015 at 3:14 pm

I agree!!! I know of no perfect solution to any problem.

          • StoneyCurtisll April 30th, 2015 at 8:02 pm

You forgot to end your comment with “White Power!”

The Wall Street Journal has an excellent editorial today, explaining how the Baltimore
riots demonstrate the utter failure of progressivism in urban America:

“The men and women in charge have been Democrats, and their governing ideas are “progressive.” This model, with its reliance on government and public unions, has dominated urban America as once-vibrant cities such as Baltimore became shells of their former selves. In 1960 Baltimore was America’s sixth largest city with 940,000 people. It has since shed nearly a third of its population and today isn’t in the top 25.

The dysfunctions of the blue-city model are many, but the main failures are three: high crime, low economic growth and failing public schools that serve primarily as jobs programs for teachers and administrators rather than places of learning.”

    Exactly. Nolte:

“Baltimore is not America’s problem or shame. That failed city is solely and completely a Democrat problem. Like many failed cities, Detroit comes to mind, and every city besieged recently by rioting, Democrats and their unions have had carte blanche to inflict their ideas and policies on Baltimore since 1967–the last time there was a Republican Mayor.”

Liberalism and all the toxic government dependence and cronyism and union corruption and failed schools that comes along with it, has run amok in Baltimore for a half-century, and that is Baltimore’s problem. . . .

Poverty has nothing to do with it. This madness and chaos and anarchy is a Democrat-driven culture that starts at the top with a racially-divisive White House heartbreakingly effective at ginning up hate and violence.

Nolte’s right: The rioting in Ferguson and Baltimore isn’t driven by poverty, race, or even police brutality. It’s driven by progressive culture, which teaches that successful business people “didn’t build that,” accepts abortion/divorce/children out of wedlock as normal
behavior, proclaims that poor children (particularly minorities) cannot succeed, that police
and authority in general are the “enemy,” and that law is rigged against minorities. Urban music, “leaders” like Al Sharpton, and a Democrat strategy of balkanizing Americans through identity politics–echoed daily by mainstream media–has created a culture that has no respect for the rule of law. In the eyes of progressives, the American Dream is dead, and they are literally dancing on its grave.

Until this progressive culture changes (if it ever can) or is marginalized politically, we will have lawless behavior every time these destructive, sociopathic cultural expectations are reinforced by tragedies like the deaths of Michael Brown or Freddie Gray.
But does this let your American Republican’s off the hook ? No, they continue to out-donate their Liberal counterparts almost 2:1. And for that they should be ashamed.

      You’re full of BS.

      • EstebanCafe April 30th, 2015 at 6:10 pm

Your lightening repertoire of pithy sayings has left me undone. Oh, the humanity.

Sigh. Whenever you American Leftists cannot draw upon your fantasy of fake facts with which to reply to truth you turn to insults. Sir, you have just shortcut the entire process.

Let no one say of the American Left that–whatever other faults may attach–it is not expedient.

Well done Sir, well done indeed.

It was all your comment deserved, thank you.

The same News Corp that bring us Fox “news’…
I if you want to believe the clap trap they put in print or on television, go right ahead.

      • EstebanCafe May 1st, 2015 at 12:17 am

I might say the same for this site; however, as to credibility, the WSJ has it; this site does not. Sir, I prefer to argue the facts–please present those with which you disagree, then a discussion may be had.
Or, you could do as the fellow just below us did and go right to name calling, which is typically the next phase in discussions with American Leftists.

  8. John Tarter April 30th, 2015 at 6:30 pm

There was one shopkeeper whose store didn’t get vandalized or burned to the ground and that was because he had a shotgun handy. Baltimore showcases another failure of Democrat control in that the majority of the business owners were unarmed because of Maryland’s extreme gun control laws that left the citizenry defenseless against the criminals. “We will protect you” liberals say, but Baltimore once again shows they cannot.

    • StoneyCurtisll April 30th, 2015 at 7:56 pm

      I call bullshit~!

    • tracey marie April 30th, 2015 at 8:22 pm

bullshit, your lies are astounding. The gangs were guarding the stores and standing between the killer cops and the protesters to keep the peace and stop the killer cops from killing more black people

      • Gadea April 30th, 2015 at 10:50 pm

Black owned shops only, you know that.
The Gangs directed the rioters to the shops owned by Arabs and Chinese.
As much as you want to deny that, it happened. Reported by the NYTIMES and CNN.
