Ken Paxton says he’s fine with what gay people do as long as the don’t get married.

“We passed a constitutional amendment [banning same-sex marriage] in 2005, it was overwhelmingly approved by the voters,” Paxton told CNN host Alisyn Camerota. “That’s our background here.”

Someone should tell Attorney General Paxton that the world has changed much since 2005.

Camerota noted that as recently as two years ago, polls showed that support for marriage equality in Texas was evenly split.

“If Texas follows national trend lines, we’ve seen support tick up for same-sex marriage,” she pointed out. “So, why pass a law that would apply to everyone?”

Paxton, however, argued that the “real poll” happened on election day.

Marriage is only for straight people? What does he have against straight people? JK

“it was overwhelmingly approved by the voters,”

Only 13.7% of eligible registered voters turned out to support that amendment.

I think a more accurate summary of the Texas AG’s opinion is that equal protection under the law is for straight people.

In a previous generation, Paxton would have been one of those
socially-regressive neanderthals using similar arguments to rationalize
    an “anti-interracial marriage” policy.

He could also make a case that the South fought a Civil War to protect slavery.

Again, so what? His legal footing is turning to sand.

Shows what a legal genius the Texas AG is.

I’m pretty sure that you don’t get to deny rights based upon popular voting. Because of the US Constitution, which can beat up the Texas Constitution!
