Denny Hastert has been charged with evading bank reporting requirements and lying to the FBI.

The indictment against him alleges that Hastert agree in 2010 to provide someone with $3.5 million in order to “compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct” against that individual. He then allegedly withdrew about $1.7 million in cash from different accounts between 2010 and 2014 in order to provide the money to that person…

The indictment alleges that Hastert eventually began making his withdrawals in amounts less than $10,000 so as to avoid detection. And, when questioned about his activities, he then said that he was keeping the money, the indictment says…

Each count carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney in Chicago.

What kind of misconduct was Hastert so involved in that he paid off someone to keep quiet?

    This should get really interesting…

I’m thinking it’s either that he raped/molested “Individual A,” or he has a kid by her he doesn’t want anyone to know about. Whatever it is, keeping his secret out of the public’s scrutiny cost him mucho bucks.

It only mentions Hastert’s time as a high school coach. So it’s reasonable to think it had to do with that time frame..

Must have been pretty severe. Mere peccadilloes would not cause this:

We’re obviously about the same age. Not too many people remember that show. But they didn’t use a hot iron on him. I always liked The Rebel.

  5. Obewon May 28th, 2015 at 7:59 pm

Former speaker Denny like convicted Felonious Speaker (R-TX) Tom DeLay, proves once again why 90%+ of all politicians convicted or pleaded guilty are Repubs! Alleges that Hastert agreed in 2010 to provide someone with $3.5 million in order to “compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct” Sexual, or Illegal misconduct?

  6. burqa May 28th, 2015 at 8:39 pm

I used to be friends with a guy who pronounced “indicted” just as it is spelled.
Somehow, that way of reading it seems appropriate right about now….

  7. allison1050 May 28th, 2015 at 9:54 pm

You guys need to visit CNBC’s site and read the comment thread on Hastert…funny!

    • dave-dr-gonzo May 29th, 2015 at 8:27 am

A juicy laff-riot. All the righties wnat to do is talk about “Obummer”, “Hitlery”, and “but, but, but, it was Hastert’s money, he should be able to withdraw whatever he wants”-style wilful ignorance. In other words, the right’s got nothin’.

      • allison1050 May 29th, 2015 at 8:50 am

They’re absolutely amazing in their ignorance and to think it’s just a small sampling of your average American voter(?).
