I am right wing but have not acted in any manner to be disrespectful to the loss of the Biden’s son. Westboro is a cult and with every funeral they attend to spread their hatred, there should be a counter protest group to push them back.

After it hit the news he apologized. He walked away from the reporter when asked why he chose to tell Biden jokes on that particular day. He’s a total arsehole.

Thank you. It is wrong to say things like ‘He got what he deserved and the like’. No parent, spouse or child deserves to lose their loved one at such a young age like this. Very sad. I just had a childhood facebook friend about the same age as Biden’s son who died 2 weeks ago of the same thing.

it’s how my son passed. we found out in august of 08 and he passed in feb of 09. when i heard about biden’s son, my heart broke, but i couldn’t remark. not until now. my baby was 19, and just became a soph. in university. now, my other son is away in college and just turned 19. nothing funny about making jokes about anyone who has just lost a child.

Regardless of how repugnant you find someone’s message, you don’t have the right to physically assault them. A civilized person doesn’t give in to violent urges, no matter how angry or offended they get. If they do, they are rightly subject to criminal charges.
That being said, I also don’t feel particularly bad for the Westboro church members who may have been scalded…

I agree with that, but I don’t really consider throwing coffee at someone an assault. If someone threw coffee at me, I’d be pissed, but I wouldn’t press charges. Unless it was really hot. And it probably wasn’t.

He was born out in the sticks in Westmoreland County. I’d consider that his home turf. He moved to Ferry Farm right across the river from here when he was a little kid. Grew up there, moved to Mount Vernon later. I don’t know if he lived in Alexandria or not. He spent a lot of time there, chasing womens. I know he was a vestryman at the Falls Church and one that’s in Alexandria.
His mama and brother Charles lived here, and so did his sister, Betty, who was married to Fielding Lewis., who I am directly descended from….

Alexandria as it is now didn’t exist back then. During part of the 19th century it was part of Washington, and then was ceded back to Virginia. But the tourism board promotes the city as his hometown. Mount Vernon is actually in Fairfax County, a few miles south.

Yeah, I’ve aleays wondered if at one time they changed the names of streets named after royalty. They did that in F’burg and then changed them back.
I did some work there on an old house.
Mason lived down the road from Mt. Vernon at Gunston Hall. Just the other day I was reading about Pohick Church, at Ft. Belvoir. Mason and Washington disagreed as to which side of Pohick Creek it would be built on.
Monroe was also from Westmoreland and he lived here a while and you can visit his law office. The house is in private hands.
Madison was from Port Conway, just down the road in King George.

Alexandria still has King and Queen and Prince and Princess and Duke Streets. None named after any actual royalty though. Unless you count Washington Street.

Working on this old house in Alexandria, my boss kept coming by telling me I was working too fast and to slow down because he wanted to drag the job out. That didn’t sit well with me, but I was making a ridiculous amount of money and he was giving me 2-hour lunch breaks.

if the WBC thinks the best way to endear others to Christianity is through bigotry and hatred, it’s their right to proselytize in this manner. It’s not very smart, IMO, but it’s their right. They’re like attention starved, spoiled children, who think the only way to garner recognition is to act like fools in front of the camera. I’m optimistic that, if the more intelligent among us ignore them, they’ll tire of their antics and move on.
Inciting violence, even something as small as tossing a paper cup in their direction, is never the answer. That only serves to prove they’re making headway, and their message is being heard, instead of falling on deaf ears..
