The Guardian reports 500 Americans have already been killed by the police in 2015.

These numbers are more than double the latest rate compiled by the FBI (461 in 2013), which manages a “voluntary” reporting system where police agencies can send in numbers of “justified homicides.” In those first 500 deaths, 49.6% of the individuals were white, 28.2% were black, and 14.8% were Hispanic/Latino. Only 4.8% were women.

How that stacks up against America’s makeup: As of the 2013 census, we were 62.6% white, 13.2% black, and 17.1% Hispanic/Latino. And there’s a definite imbalance among those who were unarmed: Per the paper’s stats, 30.5% of black people were unarmed, while just 16.1% of white people were (the unarmed total is 108 of the 500).

Racism is dividing this country and the right is pushing for this division and the major cause of racism.

i understood what you are saying. “Racism is dividing this country ,,,” but, on that same note, i have to disagree. racism has a, and will forever have a, problem in this country, but it isn’t as loud as it used to be. it seems louder because of the technology we have now. because ignorant stupid pos, have been finally given a venue to spew stupid. if, and it’s only my litte opinion, if that statement were true, there’s no way in hell on earth, that President Obama, one, would have been elected President in the first place and two, no way in hell on earth would he have been elected to hold office for a second term. he was elected because, the majority of the white people in this country supported and voted for him. as well as the majority of every other race or ethnic group. and twice. so, there are more in this beautiful country of ours, than that of the hateful, disgusting, pos’s, low down, skank ass bastards, whom, by the way, should pool their fk’n money together and buy an island. hell, if Jay Z can buy mrs. B an island for her birthday (by the way he did) then why can’t these fools pool their monies together and get the fk out my backyard?!!! and country?

What depressing news! I was hoping the numbers would go down after all the unrest and obvious injustice we’ve seen this last year. And these numbers only represent those places that actually report police killings/death in custody cases. I image the real numbers are actually much higher!

i know. just imagine those that don’t get coverage, regardless of race or ethnicity. sickens me to my core.

Consider also the even higher body count related to the drugs/guns side of this huge underground economic infrastructure, now prolific and diversified in most US cities and towns. Organized crime on meth! What could go wrong?

Just for reasons of comparison: in 2013 British police forces fired their guns 3 (three) times (fatalities: none). To get a similar ratio, all police forces in the U.S. combined had just 16 rounds.
