Jeb Bush’s faltering presidential campaign should realize that when Mitt Romney said this kind of thing he lost the election.

Jeb Bush was asked by a white supporter why there were no black attendees at the South Carolina campaign event. And in perhaps his biggest gaffe yet in an already floundering 2016 campaign, Bush answered the question in a way which made it sound as if he believes that African-Americans vote democrat because they’re bribed with – in his words – “free stuff.”

Bush may have been trying to paint a picture in which he can entice black people to vote for him because he’ll magically make them rich, which is a tactic that the republican party has been using with a remarkable amount of success on white working class voters for a generation. But instead he essentially accused black voters of siding with whatever party is willing to give them handouts.
