Trump just claimed, in a rambling and incoherent announcement during which he apparently wandered from prepared statements, that “he” takes credit for ridding the world of the odious, vicious, cruel, self-styled “caliph” Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the all-but-defeated Daesh (ISIS).

In a typically Trumpian move, he badmouthed al-Baghdadi as a “coward” and said he  was ““whimpering and crying and screaming all the way… [and] died like a dog.” While we don’t feel bad at all about the manner in which al-Baghdadi was removed, there is no place in a presidential announcement for this kind of dehumanizing rhetoric more emblematic of a fascist dictator.

Trump admittedly thanked Russia, Turkey, Syria, and the people he betrayed — Syrian Kurds — for their part in the raid BEFORE thanking American troops. But the truth remains – he should take no credit at all.

But here’s the brutal truth, Uncle Dyejob: ISIS was diminished to the point that they were almost a nonentity, with at least ten thousand ISIS fighters and supporters imprisoned by Kurds in North Syria. In effect, you let them go free when you betrayed the Kurds.

And let’s not forget that elite American special forces and our intelligence agencies, which have been working to track down al-Baghdadi since Obama’s presidency, had the largest part in the action that killed al-Baghdadi, but they were not alone:

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Sunday they had worked with the United States on a “successful” operation against Islamic State, in an apparent reference to reports that IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is believed to have been killed in a U.S. military operation in Syria.

“Our strong and effective operations once again confirm our strength and determination to go after (Islamic State),” the head of the SDF’s media office, Mustafa Bali, said on Twitter in Arabic.

SDF commander Mazloum Abdi said on Twitter an “historic, successful operation” resulted from joint intelligence work with the U.S.

Let us also add a little additional perspective on the announcement via a few of my favorite outspoken Tweeps, such as…
