This list was allegedly put out by a Chick-fil-A manager fed up with the way his employees were talking.

[su_center_ad]

He hears ‘bruh’, ‘on fleek’ and ‘chill’ on a daily basis.

Now, a Chick-fil-A manager has compiled a list of slang terms his staff are not allowed to use.

It includes ‘bae’ (baby or sweetie), ‘cuz’ (because), ‘or naw’ (oh no), ‘ratchet’ (trashy), ‘guh’ (irritated or angry) and ‘fam’ (loved ones, such as friends or family).

It also features ‘3hunnid’, in reference to the phrase ‘Keeping it 300’ – made famous by Kanye West – which describes how someone is ‘300percent real and honest’ as opposed to the traditional ‘100’.

Fleek means “on point” according to the Urban Dictionary.[su_csky_ad]

I can see why fool is on the list. He doesn’t want to be the center of attention.

  4. Larry Schmitt November 11th, 2014 at 9:26 am

“You are a professional.” Yes, according to the dictionary definition of the word, but you’re a professional fast food worker. Just sayin. (That’s prolly on the list too) (So is that one)

  5. mea_mark November 11th, 2014 at 9:27 am

Maybe if he paid his employees better he could get better quality employees. You get what you pay for.

    • Alastorchang November 11th, 2014 at 6:36 pm

…you guys do know that as a business its goal is to make a profit. Jobs are a tool and byproduct of that business. Customer service and how they represent their company, being polite and professional, is part of the job. This is not unreasonable, its the same reason they have to wear a clean uniform. Should the higher ups make a better incentive than barely above minimum wage, yes without a doubt in my mind, but do to an overpopulation of jobless individuals and undocumented foreigners, there is no need to do so when they are replaceable

      • mea_mark November 11th, 2014 at 8:33 pm

The oligarchy really likes that overabundance of jobless individuals so they can keep wages down, don’t they? Do you think that is why the republicans are never serious when it comes to putting together legislation that can create jobs? Disposable workers are the dream of the selfish greedy bastards that make up a large portion of conservative business owners today. Well, they are getting what they pay for, people that don’t give a shit about them either.

lol, why do your kind always bring in illegals and pretend the unemployment numbers are not 5.8?

        • Alastorchang November 11th, 2014 at 9:16 pm

What do you mean your kind? I am a korean mexican native american spanish french black (from higher to lower percent) ethnicity atheist libertarian. Go out and ask 100 adults if they are employed and if they are underemployed (meaning they work part time but want to work full), find out how many have given up, how many are scamming the system. If that is under six percent I will leave this country that I love and go die on an island somewhere

          • tracey marie November 11th, 2014 at 9:18 pm

What a broken reply response. 10,000, 000 ‘illegal’ foreigners and none have taken america jobs, that is nonsense. This path we are on is non sustainable, but you have been programmed so well you cant have an original thought. You are just a puppet on strings. I will only talk to you if you’re willing to sever the bonds that tie

      • epazote November 12th, 2014 at 11:18 am

        >>>>”Customer service and how they represent their company, being polite and professional, is part of the job”

‘mericans walked away from “customer service” by embracing the impersonal big box retailer. Happy to grab a basket, fill it with groceries, shoes, garden supplies, pet food, electrical, plumbing and automotive supplies (how many local businesses are forced to close when a big box like WalMart opens it’s doors; having first secured favorable tax exemptions for itself from the community “leadership”?) How many people have shunned TBTF banks and instead support community banks and credit unions ? How many people happily line up at the “self checkout” ?

You sacrificed service for indifference, helpful/knowledgeable support staff for a few pennies saved. You now have a *service economy where 48% of the full time workforce earns less than $10 hour with no benefits ($20k gross annually)

    • mcalleyboy November 12th, 2014 at 2:33 am

If you check out the qualification’s and extra’s it’s not such a bad spot to work at, free Gym membership, wages are pretty decent for fast food.

  6. EnuffBull November 11th, 2014 at 9:48 am

    Sacri-licious!!

      You mean chikin.

  11. Dwendt44 November 11th, 2014 at 11:24 am

Added to the list of why I won’t eat there.

    • KDee November 11th, 2014 at 4:28 pm

There are a lot of reasons that I won’t eat at Chick-Fil-A and this isn’t one of them. What is wrong with a manager wanting his store and his employees to look good. Whether they are new or old employees learning how to communicate at work might help them get a better job.

      • whatthe46 November 11th, 2014 at 5:17 pm

who says they aren’t communicating? besides, i doubt this is the way they talk in front of customers.

        • Frank Harrison November 11th, 2014 at 7:06 pm

wanna bet? A customer can hear all of this no matter where any employee is in the building.

          • Ellen H. November 11th, 2014 at 8:23 pm

Really? When I worked at Wendy’s in high school, only the people in line could hear what the front people said. If we were in the prep area or back by the coolers, we couldn’t be heard.

  15. ConKiller November 11th, 2014 at 3:23 pm

    I bet he says, Nuculear.

  16. Jesse November 11th, 2014 at 4:52 pm

I don’t know whether I like it or not. Had he included words like ya’ll, ain’t, dude, man, and a few other choice words which make people sound like complete air-heads, I might be on board. As it stands, this list doesn’t even address a fraction of the butchering performed on the English language by kids today. I would go with racism but kids from all races use those words today. I hear Ratchet constantly by kids. My little sister being one of them. It doesn’t hurt to use plain English, especially in a place of business. That being said, until they remove ain’t, ya’ll, and force everyone to use “whom” instead of “who” in the dative case, as is proper English, they’re only partially finished.

  17. JohnVHedtke November 11th, 2014 at 5:48 pm

Yeah, I was concerned about this initially as being racist but reading this, I have no problem with saying “You’re reflecting this business so speak professionally.”

    • Skip Patterson November 12th, 2014 at 3:20 am

Same here, but it is a fact that any business has a certain image they are trying to project to the community and as part of your employment you have to help to protect and promote that image.

$8.00/hr to start. It has a four star rating on glassdoor. That rating is derived from employees. If you really want to know how a company treats is employees, check out glass door. Quit listening to the pundits.

      Source: http://www.glassdoor.com/Hourly-Pay/Chick-fil-A-Team-Member-Hourly-Pay-E5873_D_KO12,23.htm

      • Urbane_Gorilla November 11th, 2014 at 8:05 pm

I was actually being a little tongue in cheek, but the restaurant is known by the public for its right wing religious blatherings:

This is old news, but pertinent: Chick-Fil-A’s Public Approval Plummets Following Anti-Gay Declaration | PerezHilton.com http://perezhilton.com/2012-07-28-chick-fil-a-public-approval-rating-falls#.VGKwq8lxg_Y

And I’m not very impressed by employee approval if they just earn $8 per hour.

I do notice you didn’t seem to take umbrage with my comments on the quality or taste of their product. I have tried it…once. That was enough.

I don’t really listen to pundits. The store produces the same old mass market fat and starch and thinks for some reason that that gives them a bully pulpit to dictate how other Americans should live their lives.

        • Dwendt44 November 11th, 2014 at 8:06 pm

Their chicken comes from the same poultry factory as everybody else’s does.

          • Urbane_Gorilla November 11th, 2014 at 8:09 pm

i don’t mind chicken. In fact, i like KFC’s over roast….It’s when you bread it up and deep fry it, it becomes just more crap.

          • Ellen H. November 11th, 2014 at 8:21 pm

Their chicken may come from Tyson or Perdue, but their breading is gross. I got sick both times I ate there.

        • The Conservative Atheist November 11th, 2014 at 11:27 pm

That’s was just for a starting wage. It seems that being to ten is simple. As for the rest: the will always be homophobes. That is more true than the will always be idiots. As for the rest, I have not partook of any of their fine offerings as I personally shy away from these particular establishments. I prefer to take the slowest route to death by eating healthy.

And for your last comment: does anyone telling them they are wrong also trying to dictate how they should live their lives?

One thing I can say is that they do hire people. And reading the comments from those employees, it sound like they are flexible for their employees. Did you read any of the comments?

          • Urbane_Gorilla November 12th, 2014 at 10:52 am

Chain fast food outlets are similar to big box stores in that for every job they create, they kill off 1 1/2 jobs in the local community. And by paying minimum wage, they depress the local economy while sticking the taxpayer with the bill for social services.

“And for your last comment: does anyone telling them they are wrong also trying to dictate how they should live their lives?”

Nope .. Just telling them to keep their silly 2000 year old BS to themselves. I’m not sure why if a person claims to be Napoleon we send them to a shrink, but if they claim to believe in Jesus they’re allowed to rant at will and everyone should cater to their delusions.

        • Guest November 12th, 2014 at 2:27 am

Vegetables give you cholesterol, it don’t matter what you eat, your liver makes it so if your missing out on greasy fries and burgers it’s all on you.

          • Urbane_Gorilla November 12th, 2014 at 10:47 am

Not quite. Get your facts straight :

“Contrary to what you may have heard nearly 80% of the cholesterol in your blood stream is made by your own body while the other 20% comes mainly from the food you eat.”

“Your liver is the primary organ responsible for the production of cholesterol in your body, although a small amount is made by the lining of the small intestine and the individual cells of the body.”

          • Rocky the Liberal Rottweiler November 12th, 2014 at 5:12 pm

“Your liver produces more cholesterol when you eat a diet high in saturated and trans fats.”

          • Urbane_Gorilla November 12th, 2014 at 7:17 pm

Your body produces 80% (approx) of cholesterol. What you consume affects the remaining 20%, which is what the quote says.

      • tracey marie November 11th, 2014 at 8:34 pm

glassdoor, the ratings are done by employess, the bosses rate themselves

        • The Conservative Atheist November 11th, 2014 at 11:30 pm

After each name on glassdoor, they give their title of they have one. Most of what I read had to do with the company, not the bosses in particular.

But I will not deny that you may be correct.

    • mcalleyboy November 12th, 2014 at 2:24 am

So owning a business is something new for you then. Right wing religious freaks that were able to create a chain of restaurants that employee these very same workers, pay their taxes and also bring in dollars from extremist on both side.

      • Urbane_Gorilla November 12th, 2014 at 10:44 am

        I’ve owned businesses.

But you need to rethink their benefit to society. Chain fast food outlets are similar to big box stores in that for every job they create, they kill off 1 1/2 jobs in the local community. And by paying minimum wage, they depress the local economy while sticking the taxpayer with the bill for social services.

And I don’t care if they worship their craven figures, just shut up about it. Who needs a dose of their BS with a crappy chicken slice?

    • mcalleyboy November 12th, 2014 at 2:21 am

Agree the pay is not that good but it’s somebody’s franchise and this manager has got to keep it professional and the only way to do that is make sure his employee’s speak correctly at this particular spot. Old folks or professionals don’t understand this slang and next wonder what else isn’t being done right in the cooking area, they won’t return.

      • fancypants November 12th, 2014 at 7:29 pm

it very ironic how chick-fil-a is considered to employ ” professionals ” but the Mcdonalds down the street doesn’t have such job titles or a short list.

  27. SoLeftImRight November 11th, 2014 at 11:36 pm

    It all seems rather childish.

  28. NotRappaport November 12th, 2014 at 12:13 am

It’s ridiculous to ban those words but I wish the manager had banned “no problem.” (The correct phrase is “you’re welcome.”)

    • Ethan Woods November 13th, 2014 at 12:20 am

  30. bpollen November 12th, 2014 at 2:37 am

“You are a professional so speak professionally.”

I’m not sure I would call workers in a fast food joint professionals, with the exception of management. And wouldn’t “speak professionally” mean the same thing as “get a paid speaking gig?”

    • voice_reason November 13th, 2014 at 8:29 am

so now the franchise owner is being held up to ridicule for trying to teach these kids a life lesson on how to get ahead in the world? Clearly people are taking this “thought” control perpsective way too far espeailly when you llook at the list of “dangerous” words o this list. God forbid the kids learn that using slang and other inappropriate langauge in the work palce doesn’t help them gtrow

      • bpollen November 16th, 2014 at 3:04 am

It strikes me that YOU are taking “thought control” way too seriously. The author of said list is correcting grammar, yet chooses threats to remove perks if employees don’t speak professionally. As he expresses it, it would mean that they lose meal perks unless they took a job speaking for money. Soooo…. it’s condescending and certainly doesn’t show a great amount of professionalism on his part.

  31. rg9rts November 12th, 2014 at 6:50 am

I’m surprised that “raise” did not make the list

  32. NoTeaThanks November 12th, 2014 at 8:23 am

We all know that god hates those modern words in English… like “childish”. Chick-fil-a says you’re gonna go to h-e-double-toothpicks fer usin’ words laake that, y’all!

  33. Warman1138 November 12th, 2014 at 5:05 pm

Banning words is like banning thought.

    • voice_reason November 13th, 2014 at 8:25 am

and if these children conitue not learning waht is and isn’t apporprie work palce lanaguage, they will be doomed to stay in these jobs for the rest of their lives, and they’ll wonder why they can’t break out of their minimum wage career

  34. voice_reason November 13th, 2014 at 8:23 am

you know what, as far as teaching these kids what it means to work, there does not seem to be anythgin so horribly wrong about this list of words; sounds like he
is providing young adults with a lesson in working etiquette and what’s so horribly wrong with that when you consider that most of these young people, if they ever wish to get out of this type of job as they grow older will need to understand that they cannot act like immature children and speak as such if there is ever any hope for them to get ahead. while we may cringe at the thought of ‘controlling’ speech, all this franchise owner is doing is helping the kids learn a life lesson.

  35. nunya bisness November 15th, 2014 at 7:32 pm

good. there’s nothing wrong with an employer setting rules for employees. as far as a lawsuit, or infringing on civil rights, give me a break. go work somewhere else if you feel like your liberties are being stepped on, if not, suck it up and follow the damn rules. End of story.
