Mom Says She’ll Breastfeed 6-Year-Old As Long As Child Wants
[su_right_ad]Denise Sumpter of the UK is still breastfeeding daughter Belle, age 6, and says she’ll do so until the daughter asks her to stop.
The Year Two pupil will ask for a feed if she is tired, ill or simply wants some bonding time with her mum.
She might ask a couple of times a day, or maybe just once or twice a week.
Sometimes she feeds on her own, and other times she latches on alongside 18-month-old brother Beau.
And Denise, 44, insists she will continue until Belle decides it is time to stop.
“I’ll feed Belle as long as she asks,” she says. “I don’t know how long that will be. It will be the same with Beau. I don’t think there’s anything weird about it.[su_csky_ad]

nope. It’s more of a family bonding ritual. Usually with the more basic cultures that aren’t overly westernized. But it’s also the individual’s choice. Most moms figure the teeth (even baby ones) are more for tearing and chewing thus the ‘weaning’ from breast to bottle to beer cans. [Some people even find extreme pain to be pleasurable].

Theoretically I support a woman’s choice to breastfeed as long and anywhere she needs or chooses to. Although I am never bothered by breastfeeding in public, I have a hard time wrapping my head around any 6-year-old that still wants to breastfeed – or should want to.

It would seem the longer this goes on, the greater the chance of ending up with dependency issues later in life. Whatever though. Doesn’t really seem like a big deal either.

I admit that I’m a bit jealous of the idea of having a mom that absolutely enjoys bonding with her children even if it means some embarrassment.
That being said, unless she’s committed to taking care of her children for life, she’s doing them a pretty severe disservice. The world is cold and hard. Those children will hit the streets with absolutely no idea how lonely and disconnected everyone is. Wow. The attachment issues they will be faced with as adults. That’s some serious therapy right there.

she is 44 her time is coming to an end, her hormones will flow and her bresats will stay upright untill she stops nand her milk dries up…her hormones will follow

Most babies stop breast feeding by 6 months or shortly thereafter. As soon as they can eat regular baby food, that’s it.

somewhere between 4 and 6. I remember well when my son started eating table food. He was at about 6 or 7 months. Usually we set the baby food out and spoon fed him along with the meal. He wasn’t quite coordinated enough to use one himself. Watched me put the spoon in the jar, lift it up to his mouth, backed his head away, looked at the food on the table, back at the spoon, up at me with a weird look like WTF -you eat it, I want what everybody else is enjoying. Sure enough, mashed up the potatoes and gravy real fine and he started eating just like me. He never took to baby food after that unless we mixed it in a plate with whatever we were eating while he watched.

It looks like nobody read the linked article, and just sat down and typed ICK! That was my first reaction, along with “it’s none of my business”, so I looked it up. It turns out she has a lot of good reasons, i.e. less cancer, more immunity, healthier kids and mothers, the American Academy of Family Physicians says a natural weaning age for humans is between two and seven years, baby formula is full of toxic corporate chemicals …
