Police in the San Francisco Bay Area have arrested a 14-year-old boy and said he will face charges on the shooting of an 11-year-old boy. The victim, who was identified by relatives as Gregory Kent, of Oakland, is expected to survive and listed in stable condition. The alleged gunman was not identified.

Gregory was shot once in the chest on Thursday outside an Antioch apartment complex, then the suspect ran away.

Antioch police Cpl. James McMurry told the Contra Costa Times  that the 14-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm later that day.

According to a woman who said she was the child’s aunt, the weapon involved appeared to be a .22-caliber handgun. She said the victim who was staying in Antioch for the summer, ran inside and said a friend had just shot him.

Police offered no details on the relationship between the two boys, or if the gun was recovered.

The investigation of the shooting is ongoing.

response from liberal: This is what happens when you allow easy access to guns
    response from Conservatives: Accidents happen.

True that, but this was no accident.

      • Linda1961 July 5th, 2014 at 10:09 am

But they will still claim that it was an accident.

Their definition of accident is wrong.

            Also, they’re crazy.

Most of their definitions are. It’s a problem. Especially their definition of “fact”…

As far as I’m concerned, anytime an adult fails to secure a weapon properly, they are responsible.
If you are hunting, and busy properly loading a weapon and are rushed by Bigfoot and the gun discharges and strikes someone – that’s an accident.

I agree with your point that the adults are responsible for not properly storing the weapon, the police need to start arresting them. That would change a few things at least

I also think that requiring insurance would be appropriate at this point.

He accidentally on purpose shot a little kid in the chest.

Are you implying the child knew what he was doing? Gun owner was very careless.

14 year old with a gun? Thanks NRA and gun nuts everywhere. Thank goodness the 11 year old victim did not die.

    • mcalleyboy July 5th, 2014 at 9:09 pm

Very fortunate boy to still be alive. So in your mind if you own a weapon your a nut? Who will fight for gun rights besides the NRA, there would be very strict gun laws, you wouldn’t’ be allowed to carry concealed unless your a security guard, police officer or criminal. So it would be back to statistics, you get murdered and so deal with it, trouble is that I’m not hearing any positive gun stories on Liberaland, this is just not the case.

      • Paula Blanchette July 5th, 2014 at 9:37 pm

Yep I am with those who don’t want all the yahoos in the world to carry openly or concealed. Guns everywhere are not saving people, they are killing them. I would love to see strict gun laws and believe the NRA is a hack lobby group just trying to make more money for the gun lords aon the backs of innocents dying.

I’m with you those gun free zones work great and teachers can’t arm themselves, movie goers are treated to bullets…why? Because they shouldn’t back that’s dangerous and against the law.

Is it possible that Liberaland will have any life saving gun stories? Just accidents with the mentally ill and kids to get out their anti-save your life message.

    • arc99 July 5th, 2014 at 9:13 pm

as soon as we see a pro gun control article on the NRA website, let’s talk.

    • Phil Grove July 6th, 2014 at 12:34 am

well of course guns don’t kill -people do, so all you have to do as a person is YELL BANG BANG YOUR DEAD and you just kill somebody.
