An Indiana man accidentally shot himself and a woman while cleaning his firearm on Sunday evening, according to Capt. Jim Bradberry of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Super-smart Phillip Vincze believed his weapon was cleared of all bullets,  so he proceeded to shoot himself, then one round hit Jennette Collins in both legs, according to a press release.

According to The Elkhart Truth, Medics were dispatched to the residence at about 5:48 p.m., and the man and woman were taken to to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident is under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

I’m so crazy that I actually thought one was supposed to clean their guns while it was unloaded.

Perhaps the people that want Government to stay away from “their guns” should not be able to use the the ambulance and medical care that the Government provides while they exercise their alleged freedom from the Government.

    Broke Rule Number 1 !!!!

  3. brian whittle July 7th, 2014 at 9:28 am

Always assume the weapon is loaded until you have checked it out, If you can’t follow that rule and the don’t point it at other people rule you should probably get another hobby.

Statistics show somewhere like 98% of the time your gun shoots yourself or someone you know. Almost never will it save you in a shoot out with a ‘bad guy’. Guns are dangerous in the hands of the untrained populous. Would you let you untrained friend operate on your heart or let him fly the jet taking you to Europe? Same idea. Stoopid idea! In America we support stoopid ideas! Common sense is dead. Frothing at the mouth to ‘demonstrate your rights’ is alive and flourshing!

Pashaw. Lots of everyday things kill more people than guns.

  6. MissQueenB July 7th, 2014 at 10:20 am

This article is so outrageously ridiculous I think I lost brain cells reading it. You people ought to be ashamed of yourselves, you big scaredy cat babies. Accidents happen. Get over it.

    • arc99 July 7th, 2014 at 10:43 am

As it becomes more obvious that the NRA talking point of more guns making us more safe is absolute hogwash, the goal posts are moved.

Now, we are “scaredy cat babies” for pointing out that real life is quite different from the NRA fantasy world.

yes accidents do happen. more guns do not mean we are safer. more guns mean that the likelihood of getting shot increases. the NRA was wrong. gun control advocates were right.

    • William July 7th, 2014 at 10:57 am

Uh huh..it’s obvious that WE’RE the scaredy cats. Because liberals are the ones who feel they need to be armed to buy a package of Oreos.
Sorry about your brain cells, but on the upside It doesn’t seem that you have that much to lose.

    • uzza July 7th, 2014 at 11:04 am

Accidents happen, especially around imbeciles with guns.

    • Foundryman July 7th, 2014 at 12:10 pm

Accidents never happen with loaded guns. It’s no accident to point and shoot, it is always a deliberate act.

      • better than you July 16th, 2014 at 1:18 pm

Accidents do happen!…I saw it happen!

    • shameonyou July 7th, 2014 at 6:56 pm

When your kid is killed by a bullet we’ll get over and maybe then you’ll grow some brain cells

    • Roy Blankenship July 7th, 2014 at 7:06 pm

Your post is so ridiculous it makes me wonder if you are a paid troll.

      • LightningJoe July 8th, 2014 at 4:14 pm

“it makes me wonder if you are a paid troll.”

        Or just an inspired satirist…

A man in a gun cleaning mood
    with intelligence was not imbued.
    Safety rule number one
    was not any fun
so he took out two legs and a dude.

  8. Foundryman July 7th, 2014 at 12:14 pm

Oh yes, whenever I clean my guns, I always pull the trigger. Oopsie…This guy is a dunce and exactly the type who should be banned from coming near a loaded or unloaded gun.

good job but FREAKOUT Nation .. 🙁 …

Read this guy’s record and it may make you reconsider opposition to taking guns away from psychos. On 01-28-2014 at approximately 1:54 am, Phillip Vincze, 37, was found to have been making comments about killing himself, and took an unknown amount of prescription medications at 22030 CR 10 in an attempt to harm himself. Phillip Vincze was transported to the Elkhart General Hospital for a 24 hour emergency detention and a psychological evaluation.

My brother in law claimed the same thing when cleaning his gun after about 5 gin & tonics. But he only shot the ledge stone fireplace.

I bet there was some getting his drink on before he ‘checked’ the weapon for bullets.

The guy was stupid….and you can’t fix stupid. Now then, let’s talk about what happened in Chicago over the 4th weekend….Toughest gun control laws in the country…

    • Greg Allen July 9th, 2014 at 10:35 am

      >> The guy was stupid….and you can’t fix stupid

Education can fix stupid. It’s the point, actually.

A gun safety course, required for licensing, would reduce accidents like this.

      >> Toughest gun control laws in the country…

Surrounded by states with the wimpiest gun control laws in the country. We need tough _federal_ laws. Local laws will not work when cheap, unregulated gun come flooding in from the red states.

Good thing only criminals shoot people!

If you look at the NRA “statistics”, you’ll notice they focus on criminals and not the many more shootings by legal guns.
