A San Antonio based Target store told protesters who were trying to bring awareness to the company’s national policy regarding the allowance of armed weapons into their stores, to leave. In contrast, Open Carry groups in Texas have been bringing long rifles into and outside their family-friendly establishments in protest of gun laws which are already lax in that state.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense said they were asked to leave the premises of the Target at Loop 410 and Blanco Road after being told Target provides a distraction-free shopping experience, whereas, Open Carry Groups have held protests in and outside of Target stores.

Sandy Phillips lost her daughter Jessica Gawhi in the Colorado theater shooting and was surprised that the group was turned away.

“It’s odd to me that as a mother, I’m not allowed to protest at a Target, but I’m allowed to carry a loaded weapon into Target. That doesn’t make sense to me,” Phillips said.

While nationally Target allows guns in their stores, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission laws prohibit retailers in Texas that sell alcohol to allow armed weapons into their stores, KSAT reports.

What’s more distracting: A group of Moms, or protesters with military-style long rifles strapped to their backs?

Target is #OffTarget. Boycott their stores with impunity.

No responses to Moms Group Told To Leave, Target Calls Them A ‘Distraction,’ Gun Toting Protesters Allowed

  1. R.J. Carter June 30th, 2014 at 9:42 am

“It’s odd to me that as a mother, I’m not allowed to protest at a Target, but I’m allowed to carry a loaded weapon into Target. That doesn’t make sense to me.”

    It’s called “private business.”

    • Anomaly 100 June 30th, 2014 at 9:44 am

That said, this ‘private business’ caters to mostly women. Carrying long rifles into and outside their stores with women shopping with their children is not conducive to safety. That business can go under just like others before them.

      • R.J. Carter June 30th, 2014 at 9:59 am

And that would be the market working and reacting the way it’s supposed to work and react. Given their cybersecurity woes, I’m surprised Target is still in business anyway. They’e one of my “cash only” stops.

        • BanditBasheert June 30th, 2014 at 12:08 pm

Target is in business because they offer a shopping experience exceeding WalMart. The free market has nothing to do with any of this. It’s a matter of feeling safe when you are in a store shopping.
As soon as the gun nuts take over Target, it will go under. If we can’t feel safe when we shop, Target will fix it or they will lose.
The Free Market has nothing to do with feeling safe around idiots who carry guns.

      • BanditBasheert June 30th, 2014 at 12:05 pm

And if you shop during the week, the store is filled with women and small children. When it comes to their children, women have a right to not shop at a store that refuses to protect her and her family’s rights as well as gun owners.

        • Anomaly 100 June 30th, 2014 at 12:08 pm

Unfortunately I don’t have kids, but I wouldn’t even take my cat there now.

          • BanditBasheert June 30th, 2014 at 12:11 pm

Again, look at where this is happening. If I lived in Texas, I wouldn’t go near the place. Target will eventually be forced to make some statement OR they will go under in Texas. I’m limiting it to Texas because that’s where most of the issues seem to be.
I was there yesterday – it was jammed and there wasn’t one gun nut in the store – there were tons of women, women with children and families.
Scaring people is not conducive to being a successful business. Most of our malls here are all posted “No Guns Allowed” .. so they usually aren’t an issue.

    • damspam June 30th, 2014 at 12:18 pm

      It’s called, BOYCOTT the SOB’s!!

    • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 8:49 pm

Odd your protecting the life of your children? I find it odd hiding under tables, dialing 911 for help and once again praying to the God you forgot all about but now all of a sudden when faced with almost certain death start praying again…now that’s ODD.

      • John_St_John June 30th, 2014 at 10:20 pm

You are a freak. And I do not mean that in a kind way. In fact growing up on a ranch, rabid freaks like you were put down for being a danger to life around them.

        • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 12:03 am

Ok well next time your in Colorado or another bun free zoned theater, you and your precious little ones stand tall while and with all your valuable schooling talk till your blue in the face to a guy holding a semi-automatic at you and your kids, While your doing this I’m walking out the front door with my concealed to carry weapon and won’t care about you or those like you because you failed to take the proper precautions of saving your life because you want to believe that you live in a myopic society, you also want to bring back red tape. Sick part is that you probably take care of your SUV better than your life, get a grip get a gun, get a license and train with that weapon and be the hero that your kids demand of you.

          • John_St_John July 1st, 2014 at 12:08 am

Shall we dance at sunrise then duckwheat? I’ll bring my FN-FAL and my sidearm with me.What are you bidding into this set to freak?

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 2:48 am

well guest…I’m love Western’s on TV only, I also have been in so many bad situations, (military) and in some large cities that I want to protect myself and family, if thats wrong I don’t want to be right. So if you don’t want to protect yourself, it’s okay with me but leave guns alone, stop it were not listening anymore, were gonna protect ourselves and if laws stiffen were not gonna care, you can avail yourself to the public protection, good luck with that.

          • John_St_John July 1st, 2014 at 12:16 am

50 + years and the only time I ever needed to carry a firearm was when I was reserve police officer in Modesto, CA., and that only because it was part of the job description. And you assume much freak as you have no clue what I have in my gun safe. And I surely do not need to carry a sidearm or long gun in public. That is for frightened little boys and girls who could never get over the fact that they lost playing cowboys and indians at the age of 5.

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 2:43 am

Thats a sleepy town in CA, try San Diego, LA my friend…..see, your whats wrong with Liberals, you make broad brush comments about your world only, try living in other states, cities and countries. Has nothing to do with cowboys, this has to do with preparing for a bad happening. You got car insurance? I’ll bet you do in CA, sorry about that cost, hey protect your loved ones and yourself those coffee shop nutz and movie theater mental health studs love guys like you, it makes for great target practice. Northern CA is a mellow place to live, real uneventful, seriously I’m happy for ya but don’t keep pushing for tougher gun laws, they don’t help and you can’t stop accidents, it’s a fact, deal with it.

  2. mea_mark June 30th, 2014 at 9:48 am

#OffTarget I wonder if @Target isn’t already having financial problems and is planning on filing for bankruptcy. They can now try and blame their financial woes on protesters. It almost looks like Target wants a public bailout and wants somebody to blame for their incompetence.

    • Anomaly 100 June 30th, 2014 at 9:48 am

      it’s Obama’s fault.

      • R.J. Carter June 30th, 2014 at 10:03 am

Tell him to quit being black, and everyone will just calm right down. 🙂

        • Anomaly 100 June 30th, 2014 at 10:11 am

I don’t know who he thinks he is with his blackness and stuff.

    • R.J. Carter June 30th, 2014 at 10:02 am

Perhaps. Sort of a “We got bigger worries right now” attitude?

    • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Target can blame those Liberals for boycotting their business establishment, with target taken out and less jobs in the area, next stop is open carry drug thugs….oh but they have a right to meander around on the side walks and corners.

  3. JimmyPete June 30th, 2014 at 9:54 am

That’s it, never ever go to Target, till this BS stops , it’s certainly not like they are the only game in town. Telling anyone to boycott.

    • R.J. Carter June 30th, 2014 at 10:03 am

Okay, but I’ve got to get in and get my Target Exclusive Imaginext Justice League items before that.

      • JimmyPete June 30th, 2014 at 12:21 pm

You can get that at Amazon just go to sub heading :”Justice League Items”

    • BanditBasheert June 30th, 2014 at 12:04 pm

That works IF you see/hear/experience anything having to do with guns in your local Target store. I love my Target – and will continue to shop there until there is an issue. If there is an issue with long guns or these morons, I will leave the store, I will express my opinion and will not go back.
I can’t see what effect holding a demonstration at a store where you haven’t had an issue will do. It is not happening here. When it does, then I’ll respond.

      • m2old4bs June 30th, 2014 at 10:47 pm

Naw, I’m not waiting for it to become local. I’ve written Target HQ and let them know I will not shop at any Target, anywhere, until they ban the crazy OCs. Now, with this episode, Target joins Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Chick-A-Fil among others on the list of companies I will boycott period. They ain’t getting a dime from this pissed off woman.

    • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 8:46 pm

And that’s the answer destroy business or have someone fired for following the law. Boycotting and playing these games will eventually wear the public out, the anti-gun extremists keep thinking this will work but I feel will back fire like the Rodney King video…..cops don’t care anymore if you film them because the public is also sick of thugs, Liberal thugs that don’t live next to thugs but comfy well locked homes, libs also don’t walk in these area’s they put on their vehicle protection when traveling to and fro.

      • JimmyPete June 30th, 2014 at 10:34 pm

They are a private business and can legally exclude any insecure wack job who feels that his manhood would be threatened by not showing a weapon when he shops for diapers as opposed to 99.999999999999 percent of men and about 100 percent of women, It’s my right to shop anywhere I want and sorry Target but you are way off my list. Must be pathetic for you to live in constant fear ever think of a lobotomy? May help.

        • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 11:56 pm

American public will get bored of these tactics, just like the Rodney King beating, people record the police and nobody cares now and why? were tired of thugs and drugs. Trouble is people like you take down business and get others fired, thats not the correct way it’s envious behavior, that’s slowly gonna change, I see it happening in the gay world, they can’t stop their badgering and most are getting tired of it, so what happens is nothing, nobody will care if you boycott business.

        • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 11:59 pm

Your gonna start seeing business ban certain people from their stores, hows that gonna sit with Jimmypetes diaper and pot oddessy?

          • JimmyPete July 1st, 2014 at 7:59 am

Was down South last week for my Godson’s wedding, [he’s a Marine Infantry Lt. by the way really knows guns], every bar we went to had No Guns sign, that sat well with JimmyP’s beer Odyssey [by the way home school stead of going to the shooting range learn how to spell Odyssey, smarts do wonders for diminished manhood, maybe you could go out without being strapped sometime if learned something]

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 8:14 am

I don’t carry when drinking, I don’t want to be careless, I do enjoy a good drink so good on ya… yes I’m one of those guys that barely got by in High School but retired at 41 and now live in a paid home in SE Asia, life’s not perfect but not everyone should go to college, I wish more of my countrymen could learn skills, they pay very well, take a look at the immigrants (they have skills) some drive around in Humvee’s (Fargo, ND) while a college degree nets you a call center job for $10 per hr and a possible shot at shift manager at McD’s, not cool. Retired US Navy 2003 and my respect to your son.

The rest of the world must think we’re all a bunch of lunatics. Shootings at schools or other public places almost every week, NRA clowns walking around with rifles slung over their shoulders at Target stores. . . it never ends.

        • Saint_Augustine June 30th, 2014 at 9:41 pm

Just because you have your head up your ass doesn’t mean everyone else does.

          • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 11:50 pm

Well Saint Aug…. why don’t you in the evening go for a nice stroll in your down town area, leave that thing you call a vehicle at home and join the real world, get out of your car, get out of your locked home and walk around, not parks, libraries, police stations but those other area’s, lets see how you feel about those poor down and outs.

        • Abby Normal June 30th, 2014 at 11:39 pm

It would be nice if we could make schools “Gun Free Zones” so we could stop slaughtering children every week. They have that in places like Canada, the UK, Australia and the rest of the civilized world. Oh wait, they have high-speed rail too. And functioning schools where kids learn real math and science. All we have in the U.S. now are climate deniers and open-carry fanatics. No wonder no one wants our exports. We have nothing to export buy insanity.

          • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 11:48 pm

We don’t live in Canada “Dorthy” you live as best you can in the homeland you were born in, don’t think about yesterday or tomorrow but today, think in the now, that means protect yourself stop your crying about open carry hero’s.

          • Abby Normal June 30th, 2014 at 11:56 pm

I grew up in a USA that was relatively sane. Now insanity is taking over. We’re slaughtering kids every week in their classrooms, in mall and theaters. The Republican Party has become the Party of Stupid, the anti-science party. Idiots who don’t believe in climate change but think they’re “heroes” (your word) because they stomp around in public with an attitude, a Glock stuffed in their pants and an AR-15 slung over their shoulder.

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 2:39 am

Me too…but after spending decades in several states and countries, you can’t paint a broad brush on the rest of us, you might be living in a great spot but many don’t live in wonderland like you. Statistics aren’t tracked correctly with our allies or several other countries due to tourism or lack of will and corruption. I grew up in ND, you need an AR-15 if your farmer there, you live along the borders and thuggy states you need an AR-15 seriously that shot gun comment by the Vice for ladies, it don’t work, it only pisses off the down in the hoodlums guy, you’ll need a full magazine because him and his hombre’s travel in packs like dogs.

    • mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 8:40 pm

Sounds like you’ve never lived in “The Rest of the World” you don’t know what your talking about, I’ve lived and am now living in the rest of the world and it’s more dangerous…..statistics are not tracked, there’s very little effort, and no will to provide statistics, it hurts the tourism industry. I suppose it’s also wrong for teachers to protect their lives with a concealed to carry weapon.

      • Anomaly 100 June 30th, 2014 at 10:16 pm

Oh you mean those ‘union thug’ teachers your party vilifies?

        • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 2:35 am

Some want to carry concealed, it’s better to be tough than a softy….feeling sorry for people doesn’t help you or your family.

      • Abby Normal June 30th, 2014 at 11:43 pm

What “rest of the world” are you living in? THIS is the part of the world where we massacre children in their classrooms every week. That doesn’t happen in Japan. Or Canada. Or the U.K. Or Australia. Or Germany. Or France. You know, the civilized world. It happens HERE in the U.S. of A. And your answer is to have classroom teachers walking around their classrooms with Glock? This is INSANE!

        • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 2:34 am

So you don’t trust teachers, they’re educated and they have kids too and loved ones…right? The rest of the world doesn’t report crimes as the US, I’ve lived in several locations around the globe and am currently retired in SE Asia, they don’t report these crimes, more violent than the US, you have it made so quit your belly aching get a gun and protect yourself, seriously don’t follow charts and statics.

The scuttlebutt is that you need to improve your grammar. Lets start with your use of “your vs you’re”. “Your” is possessive as in “Your logic is flawed” while “you’re” is simply “you are” as in “You’re using flawed logic.”

          • mcalleyboy July 3rd, 2014 at 8:53 am

      • Joe Wear July 1st, 2014 at 8:15 am

The CDC by law isn’t allowed to collect reliable stats on cases of gun “accidents” because of the NRA and the rest of the pro ammosexual gun rights movement

        • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 8:24 am

And I can throw out another paragraph of complete made up stuff like wise. The NRA researched that clown Pierce Morgans gun use stats in his motherland/fairyland if you believe him and they were all messed and out of whack don’t forget those loving immigrants that hatchet you to death live on television in the UK. Pierce is no more so as you can see the American public has had enough of the anti-gun message.

          • Saint_Augustine July 1st, 2014 at 10:03 am

Hey sailor, get your bearings. What does Piers Morgan have to do with laws enacted by congress that prevent the Center for Disease Control for keeping track of deaths by firearm?

And don’t get me started on the petitions. Those askeer me!

    • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 2:58 am

What’s bothering the Liberals is that their anti-gun message isn’t getting out like they want it, reason being is that elected leaders in the community don’t want to touch this subject because they can lose their elected spot so pressure from University Professor -nutz and employers keep drumming the anti-gun issue trouble is the criminal won’t obey laws and neither will the mentally challenged individual or the accident victim. Bottom line is I don’t care what anyone thinks I carry legal protection and train with it.

  8. mcalleyboy June 30th, 2014 at 8:36 pm

Real hard life lesson’s learned in the military, I managed to retire and live abroad, it’s not a safe, your not safe in the US and you have a family that rely’s on the bread winner to protect them…sadly dialing 911 is not an option anymore, neither is hiding under tables, locking doors, playing dead, it don’t work seriously, come on. Terrific your life has been so mellow and uneventful and I feel that most Americans have had this life but sadly that’s just not the case, stop painting your life on me and others that want to protect themselves. Accidents happen, I don’t want to view another grandma left the rifle in the open and grand kids blow each other away, guy prenting to shoot girl friend accidently shoots girl friend, this happens get over it and ends up in the statistic chart along with murders….OOOoooh you forgot that hugh, what about knifes, hatchets, gays love to this as a murder choice of killing.

        • Raiann July 1st, 2014 at 8:06 am

Nice !! You do not want to hear about how irresponsible some gun owners are BUT you are OK with getting in that last homophobic shot right ?? Pun intended

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 8:08 am

Accidents happen, its sad but you can’t stop them, you can’t stop grandpa from running over his baby grandchild, you can’t stop grandma from leaving her shot gun in the kitchen, its chalked up to statistics.

          • Raiann July 1st, 2014 at 8:12 am

Actually that is not an accident that is called irresponsibility

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 8:19 am

And how many people have you come across in life that can’t be fixed, they’re careless, slobs, lackadaisical, lackluster and just down right pathetic, there’s no school or public assistance program that can fix that…I call those people an accident waiting to happen.

          • Joe Wear July 1st, 2014 at 8:13 am

Most of your so called “accidents” are criminal negligence on the part of the owners of guns

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 8:18 am

I agree with you, and couldn’t imagine losing a grand child, it would be unbearable but accidents happen, people are careless, you can’t fix careless people.

  9. Yeah way June 30th, 2014 at 9:41 pm

I don’t support the “shock” tactics of the Texas open carry folks…but neither do I support the misguided actions of these anti-gunowner moms who are targeting (no pun) the wrong folks.
Middle/working class WASPS and their firearms make a great target (oops) because when gun laws are passed, they tend to obey them.
It’s the folks that DON’T obey the laws that need attention.

Turn your efforts towards addressing inner-city poverty, hopelessness and despair, and watch the gun death rate come down!

    • Joe Wear July 1st, 2014 at 8:12 am

What I’m saying is, your out of touch….you haven’t be hit by violence, you don’t live in a dangerous location because if you did you’d want protection not less guns, you can’t fix criminals, drug-thuggies-down-in-the-hoodlums, it don’t work and you can’t talk your way out of bad happening with someone thats scrambled their brains with drugs, they’ve lost that loving feeling.

All I can get from you is that you make a lot of assumptions about other people and I believe you want everyone else to be as afraid as you. Your grammar sucks too.

      • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 8:56 am

I don’t want everyone to carry, guns aren’t for everyone but I don’t feel it’s right for Liberals to paint a broad brush on the gun issue, banning guns ain’t the answer. Deal with my bad grammar and high school degree, I worked through high school because my family lived on welfare but my swimming skills helped me get through the US Navy and retire at 41, do I need to learn grammar, sure I do, thanks for the reminder, i’ll work on it.

I served when ships were made of wood and men were made of iron and King Neptune was just a teenager. So you retire with a job skill needed across the globe and you chose Asia, will you share where and why?

          • mcalleyboy July 1st, 2014 at 10:03 am

Philippines, the wife didn’t like it in the US, (I met her in WA state)she got bored because everybody is busy working, not to many Asians in Fargo, ND, my hometown. I worked for 7 years selling supplements while she lived overseas…got tired of that arangement. I served on a USNS ship out of Subic bay and Guam, they had women on those, bet you were one of those ships?

You haven’t either doofus, so shut up!

Intellectual Dishonesty from a left leaning blog … how … expected.

The reason that the MDA moms were asked to leave was because they were soliciting signatures, blocking entrances and harassing customers. In other words, breaking store policy.

The reason that the OCT people were not asked to leave is because they were … shopping.

I know it’s a tough concept to understand, but give it a try sometimes, it may just open your eyes.

I find having to fear for my life around weapon-toting people who may or may not have murderous intent to be distracting while shopping. I won’t do it. I’ll spend no money and leave any business in which I see people carrying guns immediately, and I’ll phone the manager later to explain why. I suggest everyone who cares about having a civil, sane society do the same.
